Sony S Series Tablets are available for Pre-orders, Tech Specs, Price and Other Details Inside

Apple Inc’s iPad set a benchmark that many manufacturers trying to reach. HP made their attempt around six months back but failed to impress the world with their Touchpad. This time it is Sony, who has decided to challenge iPad with their S series tablet.

To overcome user’s affection for iPad, Sony seems to have taken special efforts on design and appearance of their tab. Featuring Android 3.1 aka Honeycomb, this device is more than just a tablet PC. Users will be made available with Sony’s different online stores once tablet is released for public use. It will also feature two PlayStation games with more coming soon as tablet unveils in market. These tablets have been made available for pre-orders.

Folding Design of S1

Uniqueness of Tablet S starts from its design to what Sony calls Folding Design. Being thick on one side, tablet resides very comfortably in one hand without implying added pressure on the wrist. Thanks to this thickness, tablet features 4 degree angle with flat surface making it comfortable for typing.

Dorsal side of Tablet S features dotted surface that adds to the grip while holding. Ports are located on left and bottom side when held in landscape mode. It includes headphone jack, power jack, microUSB and SD card connection. Sadly, tablet does not feature HDMI port despite of having technology nVidia Tegra that supports these kinds of functions.

While S1 has incredible folding design, S2 is designed to be pocket friendly. Each tablet partition is 5.5 inch and thus can be unfolded to match size of usual tablet PC.

Sony has taken serious efforts to please their tablet users with 9.4 inch display featuring TruBlack technology. It offers anti-reflection and vibrant colors making movies and pictures more vivid. Deep colors and pleasing brightness make browsing experience more delightful than ever. Display is responsive to the slightest of touches and thus playing your fingers around is not at all irritating. In case of S2, it was challenging for Sony R&D developers to maintain similar quality with two separate screens but a bounty of more than $100,000 has made things possible.

In case of Audio, tablet produces loud and clear sound through two speakers located on either side when tablet is placed in landscape mode.

  • Android 3.1 Honeycomb

Sony Tablet S features Honeycomb 3.1 allowing users to access Recent Apps but sadly cannot benefit advancements available in Android 3.2 but Sony has made some efforts to offer mixed facilities from both versions.

Home screen features 4 options on top left position viz. Browser, Sony Reader, Email and Remote Control App access. Right parallel side features favorite button that lists tiles where user can access frequently used apps but there are certain limitations on which app you can place in the list of Tiles.

App Menu of Tablet S is different from other Android tablets in market. Instead of featuring black background, it features white background with animated icons making it fun. It is very straightforward to add apps to the Homescreen from this giant list of apps. Just drag any app to the “+Add to Homescreen” bar and task is done!

  • Sony Entertainment

This is the feature that makes Tablet S stand distinguished from other Android tablets in market. When tablet will be available in market, it will open doors to over 2.5 million books, 6 million movies and over 7 million songs, thanks to Sony Entertainment Store. Dedicated software for these functions is Sony Reader, Sony Video Unlimited and Sony Music Unlimited respectively. Tab is also expected to feature Crackle, an app for watching free movies.

  • Enrich Your Tablet S with Apps

There are over 250,000 apps in Android Market but how to explore all of them and find which are useful? Sony has made precision for this problem with their Select App. Select App is dedicated online portal that features articles highlighting features of Apps from Android market. It also display demo of app you select.

Social Feed Reader is dedicated social networking app that shows updates and tweets from Facebook and Twitter. You can reply to updates instantly or can even upload photo or video; it’s not at all cumbersome.

  • PlayStation Titles on Tablet S

Don’t read it twice! It’s true and officially confirmed. Sony Tablet S will be compatible with PlayStation titles that you have been playing tirelessly for last few years. For all PS lovers, this reason is enough to grab this incredible tablet. Though Sony has not announced how many titles will be available for installation, tablet is expected to ship with Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Heroes.

  • Universal Remote

Here is one more feature that would take you one step closer on pre-ordering Sony Tablet S. Tablet features Infrared transmitter that can be used with TV, set-top box and other similar kind of home accessories. It is easier to use then actual remote in some cases! How to Buy?

Hold on to your patience as this tablet is yet not available in store nearest to you. However, you can pre-order one with price tag of $499 for 16 GB version. For $100 more, 32 GB version has also been made available for pre-order. Sony Tablet S2 aka Sony Tablet P is not yet available for pre-order.

Verdict

Costing $499, Sony Tablet S1 is worth noticing. Fantastic display, equally brilliant audio quality and support of Honeycomb make this tablet perfect portable. PlayStation compatibility and out-of-time design increases its chances of getting noticed. Though these are specifications and features of tablet available for pre-order, final product will be more or less similar.
