Indian students were looking out for an Android alternative in this lineup of phones. And this comes from the side of Samsung. This is Samsung Galaxy Pro – The “Touch and Type” Android. This Device isn’t present in our lot. But I got this from one of my friend for certain amount of time (We exchanged our phones) and I decided to write a detailed review of this one.

So here’s the detailed review of the phone –

Build Quality

When compared to other QWERTY phones in the market Galaxy Pro is one of the big phones in this category. But still it gets into the pocket quite nicely. (Dimensions: 108.6 x 66.7 x 10.7 mm, Weight: 103.4 grams).

Samsung Galaxy Pro

The materials used for building the shell of the phone are quite good. You can’t get better than this one in this range. The keys on the hardware keyboard are nice and big. You won’t find out yourself mistyping from the beginning* (* If you are used to a QWETY keyboard).

What you see..

From the Front:  A speaker is present at the top of the phone. Just below the speaker you have the 2.8 inch touch screen. Samsung’s Logo is present just below the Screen. Below that you will find the hardware QWERTY keyboard. Just above the QWERTY keyboard four standard browsing buttons are present.

From the Back: You will feel more friction on the backside of the phone because of the design. The camera is present at the top and just beside the camera, speaker is present.

From The Left: Not much, just a volume rocker present on the left of the phone for controlling the volume levels of the phone.

From The Right: The Power key is present on the right of the phone. We were slightly disappointed by this. While holding the phone you may press the button by mistake.

From The Top: The 3.5mm audio jack and the microUSB port are present on top of the phone.

Overall, the build of the phone is good but we were expecting to shuffle our microSD cards without opening the cover.

Features and Performance

Display: The Phone is having a 2.8 inches display. If you are the one who spends a lot of watching movies on his Smartphone then this is definitely going to disappoint you. The screen resolution is only 320 x 240 which isn’t good for watching movies. The touch screen was giving good response; after all you can expect this much from Samsung.

Sound: The Sound quality of the phone is more than an average. Music output isn’t that great on the speakers but is good on the headphones. The call clarity of the Phone is good. Receiver didn’t face any kind of problems while talking and we were also quite happy with the clarity we got.

Camera: The 3.15 Megapixel camera wasn’t that good. It took decent images in the bright light area. But it disappointed in the mid light regions. The maximum resolution of an image which you can snap is 2048×1536 pixels. It is also having a smile shutter feature. The camera can also record QVGA videos at 30 frames per second which good enough for sharing via MMS or Social Networks. Lack of a secondary camera disappointed us a lot.

Storage: The phone has got 512 MB of internal storage which can be extended up to 32 GB via microSD card slot. A 2 GB microSD card comes along with the phone.

Connectivity: In terms of connectivity phone is quite good. It has got Class 12 GPRS and EDGE connectivity. The HSDPA 3G can speed up to 7.2 MB per second. Phone has also got Wi-Fi connectivity (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth v3.0. The microUSB port v2.0 is also present for exchanging the data with your PC.

Phone is powered by a processor of 800 Mhz and runs on Android Froyo (v2.2). This combination will allow you to play with many applications present in the Android Market.

Battery: Phone has got a standard Lithium Ion battery of 1350 mAh. On 2G network, the standby time of the phone is around 600 hours and you can talk up to 11 hours. On 3G network, the standby time of the phone is around 400 hours and you can talk up to 6 hours.
We were on the 2G Network and the Phone’s battery lasted for 2 and a half days. We browsed internet, attended few minutes on calls, exchanged around 60 SMS’s and played some music for an hour.

Price Tag (with Conclusion)

In India the phone was launched with the price tag of Rs.14, 100. If we judge the phone at this price then we’d definitely suggest you to go for other Droids like Motorola Defy. But in the streets, this phone was selling around at Rs.10K.We also noticed this phone at Flipkart for Rs. 10,000. At this price this is definitely the way to go if you are looking for a touch and type phone and that too powered by Android and an 800 Mhz processor.
