More than 10 million people scammed on Facebook; and counting!

More than 10 million people were scammed on Facebook as they fell prey to many bogus events created by scammers.  Such a thing is done by scammers only for generating revenue from online survey scams!

The scams are however still in progress and millions of users are still falling prey to it!

Events have catchy titles such as “You will never send a text after seeing this video” or “Who blocked you from his friend list”.

The trick is played by scammers on the event’s page itself, they add a “more info” button which leads the users to unwanted survey sites and other websites.

“These spammed-out event invitations and links to survey scams are one of the biggest nuisances on Facebook right now, impacting millions of users every day. It would be great if Facebook was being more proactive in shutting down these obviously bogus events, as currently it’s far too easy for the scammers to fill their pockets through schemes like this.” said Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley.

If you’re a Facebook user, remember never to accept invitations from suspicious events that arrive out-of-the-blue, and always think twice about the links that you click on via Facebook.

In case you are attending such an event, you must cancel it and also notify all your friends about the same.

    Hi Rigved,

very well pointed. Really these kinds of social networking sites are a hotspot for spammers. I have written a post on my blog about the Facebook Phenomenon and it can be read in the below link:
