When it comes to home entertainment, the choice of the big spenders, for years has been either a plasma or LCD. However, things are going to change a bit this year since LG electronics is planning to unveil its 55-inch world’s largest OLED TV panel.

The Korean electronics giant will be readily revealing its market ready OLED TV Panel and the future of the TV technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which starts Jan. 10.

Going by the outward appearance, the TV screen sports a very slim design, only 4mm thick and weighs just 16.5 pounds (7.5 kilograms).

“Although OLED technology is seen as the future of TV display, the technology has been limited to smaller display sizes and by high costs, until now. LG’s 55-inch OLED TV panel has overcome these barriers,” said Sang Beom Han, CEO and Executive Vice President of LG Display.

What sets the LG’s 55-inch OLED TV apart from other OLED TVs is a 4-Color Pixels and Color Refiner which have the ability to function in unification and generate natural and accurate colors. The first feature allows more accurate color depiction by using a set of four colors (red, green-blue and white) in comparison to the RGB setup used by other OLED TV manufacturers.

The second or the latter feature i.e. Color Refiner ensures consistency in colors from a wider viewing angle via an LG algorithm and has the ability to improve and refine hues and tones.

Besides all this, the TV displays crystal clear motion without any blurring or bleeding. Colors and other details of an image are preserved with utmost clarity, even when displaying scenes with dark lighting.

The LG 55-inch OLED TV panel will go on sale in the Q4 of 2012. There is no word on the pricing yet, it is expected to cost around $5000 or more.
