Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro Tech specs, Availability and Release Date

Sony Ericsson recently announced the two new kids in their Xperia family named Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini-Pro, both are powered by Android and successor’s of Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro. However they aren’t cheaply powered as their older brother X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro.

Xperia Mini Pro

So, here is the impression of the specs of the device based on the features announced by Sony Ericsson:

Being close successor to Xperia X10 Mini the phone didn’t care much about the X10, however it tried to make the lower end version of the very beautiful Xperia Arc. Being Mini in form factor the phones are still powered by Single core “SNAPDRAGON” processor clocked at 1GHz and has Adreno 205 GPU, the same as that of the Xperia Arc. Being mini, the screen size is 3.0 inches acquiring resolution of 320×480 pixels by both the phones whose display panel is made by LED-Back lighting on a LCD panel.

Xperia Mini & Mini Pro is regarded as the world’s smallest HD phones powered by BRAVIA display engine. Being Mini the dimensions are really small and even the pocket feels it good to have mini phone after hardcore smarties. The dimensions of Xperia Mini are 88 mm in height, 52 mm in width, 16 mm thick. where as Xperia Mini Pro is 92 in height, 53 in width, 18 mm thick and Since Mini Pro has slide qwerty it is 2mm more thick than Xperia Mini.

Camera specifications for both the phones is same they both come with 5MP camera which is able to snap digital photos at 2592×1944 pixels with secondary features like Geo-tagging, image stabilization, smile and face detection, touch focus. They even come with LED Flash, auto focus and secondary camera too.

HD Recording is must today, every Android based smart phone gets HD Recording and Yes, these non-identical twins even come with HD Recording at 720p.

Xperia Mini comes with 320MB of internal memory and Mini Pro comes with 400MB of internal memory this makes the phone mini since low internal memory options. But both of them offers good memory expansion via microSD card upto 32GB. Same as the Xperia Arc, it also got 512MB of RAM providing much better margin for multitasking on Android and the “SNAPDRAGON”.

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is what makes the cherry on the cake! Xperia X10 Mini seriously was down marketed due to the pathetic operating system running on Android 1.6 (Donut) upgradeable to 2.1 (Eclair) being moderately good hardware the operating system however was not successful to optimize it. Its successor Xperia Mini and Mini Pro both are powered by today’s number one mobile operating system Android 2.3 which Sony Ericsson’s custom custom four-corner user interface with Timescape. Mini yet powerful!

One of the best thing that we loved is the Facebook integration, users will able to be connected with their friends using Facebook which is integrated in the operating system and hence there wont be any need to use third party or official Facebook client. Facebook will be in your user interface, the photos in which you are tagged will appear in gallery and also music player will come with “Like” option to share music on Facebook.

Backed up with 1200mAh battery Xperia Mini and Mini pro won’t provides really good battery backup after considering the hardware specs but according to Sony, Xperia Mini offers of 340hrs for 2G, 320hrs for 3G as standby while call in progress backup of 4hrs 30min for 2G and 4hrs 30min for 3G.

Xperia Mini Pro offers little less as compared to Mini, 331hrs for 2G, 340hrs for 3G as standby while call in progress backup of 5hrs 40min for 2G and 5hrs 25min for 3G.

Looking at the hardware of the phones, they looks like the lower end versions of Xperia Arc, it has got same hardware as well as same operating system as that of the Arc and hence will perform same or we think even better than the Arc due to small screen and less load on the GPU.

Its perfect for pocket with so good specs you won’t feel a bulky thing in your pocked due to its Mini form factor. However the phone is thicker than the Arc, we think its an perfect mini phone and every mini form factor should come with same design and same hardware rather than something low end.
