Right next to the new iPad, Toshiba announced its whole new lineup of new tablets. Named as ‘Excite’, this family will replace the existing ‘Thrive’ family. Excite family includes three new tablets which namely Excite 7.7, Excite 10 and Excite 13. Yes, they are named according to their screen size. But a 13inch Toshiba tablet, seriously?

Yes, Excite 13 has unlocked a new category of tablets where 13inch tablets are being mainstream. Excite 13 is the first and the only tablet in the world to have such a big display. But is 13inch display really necessary?

It looks like 13inch segment doesn’t excite the customers, people instead prefer getting a 13inch laptop which they say will suite their needs better. With Excite 13 it looks like Toshiba focused at Gaming, multimedia and entertainment department.

Toshiba Excite 13 Specs & Features

Excite 13 is powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, powerful GeForce graphics chip and alongside with 1GB RAM. The monstrous 13inch screen is placed on LED-backlit LCD screen and with IPS panel. Stocked at 1600 x 900 resolution, it has 16:9 aspect ratio and has upto 10 fingers touch support.

With generalized camera specs, it includes a 2MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera. It is soldered with on-board micro USB and micro HDMI port and comes with full size SD card slot for storage expansion.

Excite 13 comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) installed out of the box. This perfectly balances and optimizes the quad-core capabilities of the tablet. Backed up with powerful battery, Toshiba claims it comes with 13 hours of battery backup and that’s something to be noted.

Toshiba Excite 13 Price and Availability

Toshiba Excite 13 will be coming in two variants starting with 32GB for $650 and 64GB for $750. Toshiba has decently priced it but there’s another name for this 13inch monster – A laptop.
