DoCoMo launches HW-01D, a waterproof phone for kids

NTT Docomo

Almost every student owns a mobile device these days in order to stay connected with the ones they wish to be. And for a student’s lifestyle, a mobile device that is rough enough to withstand football kicks or the ‘oops-it-fell-down-in-water’ moments is required. Keeping this in mind, NTT DoCoMo, the Telecommunications giant from Japan has launched the HW-01D smartphone which runs on the Android OS.

HW-01D sports a 2.0-inch QVGA screen with a resolution of 240×320 which is quite less compared to the other smartphone competitors out in the market. The HW-01D mobile handset is primarily targeted for kids who usually travel to and fro the school. It is made up of sturdy plastic material which renders it completely waterproof and dust-proof which helps in reducing the headache for parents if their kid drops the smartphone in the water. It also comes with a pre-installed web browser which can be pre-set to open only trustworthy websites and contacts, again a boon for parents.

The Hw-01D also comes with a high-resonating alarm capable enough to wake up even the most lousy sleeper kid. It is also equipped with a GPS system through which kids can keep track of their location(s) and get back on path in case they are lost.

“Users less experienced in touch screen operations are expected to welcome the familiar feel of this newest model in DoCoMo’s series of easy-to-see, easy-to-hear and easy-to-use mobile devices,” the company said in a release.

Though the HW-01D is yet to show up on the company’s official page, but just in case, if you are a bit of a Japanese reader, you may want to go through the official PDF pertaining to the HW-01D smartphone.

The HW-01D is available in yellow, blue and pink colors and joins 18 other new models launched by NTT DoCoMo. The models are expected to be released in Japan this summer.
