Google Developer Group – Mumbai kick start with Android App Development

The event which every developer in Mumbai was eagerly waiting for a very long time finally, saw a dawn of rise on 1st September 2012 . The Google Developer Group (GDG) Mumbai kicked off with an event on Android Application Development.

What is Mumbai GDG?

Mumbai GDG is an open and non-profit developers group that aims to learn, share and know more about Google technologies. The events organised by this group are absolutely open to newbies, developers, students, lecturers and anyone who is interested in learning, sharing, and discovering Google’s technologies.  Also it is the fastest growing developer community in India with highest number of events organized in last 6 month worldwide.


The event registered presence of 250 attendees at the prestigious P.C Saxena auditorium of IIT Bombay.  Also, it witnessed delegates from Google India namely Mr. Uttam Tripathi (Program Manager for Developer Relations @ Google India), Mr.s Bhumika Sharma and Mr. Badrinath Kulkarni (Android Application Engineer).

It was successfully hosted by Jatin Malhotra  founder and head of GDG – Mumbai.  The event was then taken further ahead by, Mr. Uttam Tripathi who explained the concept of  GDG and how it can benefit developers? He also, mentioned various Google initiatives such as Google Academy, Google Live, etc.. to help Google developer community worldwide.

The next in the line up was an enlightening session by Mr. Badrinath Kulkarni who explained the basic of Android Application development. In which, he also explained the Android architecture , followed by actual development process by building a Tic – Tac – Toe game, using Android development tools. The session was concluded with Android Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and it scope which too was practically demonstrated.

(Note : NFC is a set of short-range wireless technologies, typically requiring a distance of 4cm or less to initiate a connection. NFC allows you to share small payloads of data between an NFC tag and an Android-powered device, or between two Android-powered devices.)

The event was a huge success in term of GDG – Mumbai next big Dev Fest event where  participant get chance to win cool prizes and showcase their Android application.
