Bose SIE2i Headphones Review

Bose is a company well known for its set of headsets, loudspeakers and home entertainment systems.  Its products offer you the best audio experiences. Recently Bose launched a new set of headphones called the Bose SIE2i earphones in the sport audio segment. In this review we check whether Bose, a company synonymous with world class audio equipment, excels in their new venture with the Bose SIE2i earphones into the Sports Audio category.

The Externals

The Bose SIE2i earphones are what Bose calls Sport category earphones and sport the StayHear design. The StayHear design is a Bose patented design with each earpiece having a silicone rubber hook that fits inside the ear. This rather unconventional design feature is especially useful during vigorous sporting activities and is noticeably better than conventional plug design of the earphone. The Bose SIE2i earphones also feature a clip which can be used to attach the earphones to the clothing for enhanced protection.

The Bose SIE2i comes with two cables, viz, the regular shorter armband cable which is 83 cm long and can be used with the device in the armband and a longer extension cable which extends the overall cable length by 55 cm. The Bose SIE2i comes with a Bose and Reebok branded Velcro armband with a transparent front cover. The arm band is large enough to house an iPod Touch or an iPhone 4S. Both the armband and the cables are made up of excellent quality materials.

The Bose SIE2i features an inline remote control and microphone functionality. The inline remote control can be used to increase/decrease volume, go back and forth through your playlist, play/pause/you’re your current song, accept/reject an incoming call, end /hold your current call. All of these functions are handled by the three control buttons.

The Performance

Putting on the Bose SIE2i earphones feels weird for the first time as these earphones fall somewhere in between the in-ear and on-ear categories. However once you spend some time with them on it feels all natural thanks to their lightweight construction of just 18 gm. One of the drawbacks of this open earphone design comes in the form of ambient sound which the user is not completely isolated from. However the open earphone design system lets your ear breathe by not completely blocking the ear canal which is good from a health perspective.

The audio quality delivered by the Bose SIE2i is top notch. Bass and Treble quality is excellent. The unique earpiece design further enhances the sound quality by channeling the sound through the rear outlet rather than directly into the ear. Even at maximum volume settings the sound does not crack. The microphone also performs well.

Overall

The Bose SIE2i truly lives upto the Bose tradition of excellent audio quality. Even with its unconventional design it delivers excellent audio. The form and the features of the Bose SIE2i compliment extremely well with the needs of a sport earphone.

The Bose SIE2i is priced at approximately INR 8400/- (US$ 156).
