HP Slate 7

The German website Tab Tech reported that Palo Alto giant HP is working on a 10 inch Android powered tablet codenamed HP SlateBook 10 X2. The website singled out the tablet on the AnTuTu benchmark website which says that it will be powered by 1.8 GHz Quad core Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The rumored name of the tablet is familiar due to the Windows 8 powered HP Envy X2. There is no other information about screen resolution, battery, pricing or availability as of now.

HP does not have a good history with tablets and it just re-entered the tablet segment earlier this year with its HP Slate 7. The Google Nexus 7 competitor runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is packed with 7 inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 1.6 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and a Micro SD card slot. It has 3 MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1.

HP Slate 7 also packs Beats Audio in its dimensions of 197 x 116 x 10.7 mm. It promised 5 hours of video playback and weighted 13.05 ounces. It is priced at $169.99 in the US. HP Slate 7 was launched soon after the rumor broke in February stating that HP is prepping a high end tablet armed with the new Nvidia processor.

The similarity between today’s report and February’s report is very close and we might finally see this 10 incher from HP soon. HP needs to bring more tablets to the market if it wishes to build its Android tablet portfolio.
