This year’s Google I/O conference was packed with a lot of Google and Android related announcements. Let us crack into them without wasting any more space.


Google is adding 41 new features to its social network Google Plus including a newer intelligent photo management tool that is capable of rejecting non-smiling faces and blurry pictures and enhancing pictures with sharp colors, contrast adjustment and red-eye removals. Pictures can be stitched together to form panoramas and the storage space is increased to 15 GB which will be shared among Google+ pictures, Cloud and Gmail. Content is being redesigned to challenge Facebook and will be able to automatically add hash tags for making it discoverable.

All Access music streaming service

The service will mix together user owned songs with songs from 22 different genres and offer it for $10 monthly fees with a 30-day free trial. The service also challenges Spotify, Pandora etc. by offering if for $8 per month if joined before June 30. The unlimited-access based subscription plan also combines paid music from Google Play Store and will be offered in Australia, NZ and 10 European countries including the UK and France.


As revealed in the leak, Google Play games will add the ability to match players, leadersboards and online cloud syncing game save for cross device gaming to its Android OS games bringing it closer to Apple’s Game Centre.

Search, Maps and Hangouts

Google Search will now display Google Earth images without the need for installing it separately and it will offer user specific search function similar to Google Now on Chrome browser for the web.

Google Maps for mobile devices will include Google Offers (similar to Groupon) and will mention the searched Places on bottom of the screen with their ratings. Google Maps for web will take up the entire screen and Google Maps for tablets will be optimized for larger screens.

Hangouts, the new app from Google will combine chat and Hangout services and is launched as a standalone app for iOS, Gmail, Chrome and Android. It will offer support for Photos, video calls and emoji, Notification sync across platforms and Conversation History.

A new phone

A new phone (dubbed Galaxy S4 Nexus above) will be an unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 running stock Android. It will be offered via Google for $649 from June 26 and will get Android updates directly from Google.

App store for Schools

Google Play for Education will be a customized app store for Android tablets for schools and will allow a single click app download for all tablet devices of a school. It will launch this fall and will allow a single pre-setup account for purchases for each school.

Developer Tools

A lot of development tools were revealed including user tracking over apps , application optimization for different screen sizes and making it more discoverable.
