The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is having some issues with the new TouchWiz interface because of which it has been delayed. Samsung originally gave hints that it would release the much awaited Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of May or starting of June. The update is expected to bring latest features and announcements of the Android 4.2.2 by Google and TouchWiz specific enhancements from the Galaxy S4.

Samsung has not officially announced the delay for the same, but the same is being confirmed by SamMobile on its Twitter handle. TouchWiz is Samsung’s customized user interface which is present ontop of vanilla Android to provide uniform appearance and features across all its Galaxy devices. Last month, Samsung announced with Google that it will be releasing its flagship Android Smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4 with vanilla stock Android by Google called the Galaxy S4 Google Edition. This is the only product so far by Samsung which will be devoid of its signature TouchWiz interface.

The exact reason for the delay due to TouchWiz is not known but according to rumors there are some bugs with the TouchWiz related upgrade which are causing performance related issues in the devices which forced Samsung to delay the upgrade till the issues are resolved. Seeing the command of Samsung over its software, we expect the issue to be resolved soon and the upgrade made available in the coming few weeks.

Samsung is one of the few Android OEMs that has a good track record of providing timely Android upgrades so we can excuse this one delay incident by Samsung. The upgrade is expected to bring features like Smart Pause/Scroll, S Translator, Group Play, Dual Camera and many more signature features of its flagship Galaxy S4 to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3. Features like S Health and Watch On will be skipped due to the absence of specific hardware on these devices. Galaxy Note 2 is expected to get Finger AirView/ Gestures as well.

The upgrade will be available Over The Air (OTA) without any need to connect to PC or link to Kies software. You will be notified in the notification panel when the upgrade will be available depending upon your region, carrier and availability in your country. To check manually for available upgrades, go to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update when you are connected to Wi-Fi. Avoid updating on Data connection as the updates vary from 20MB to 500 MB so it might incur you huge data charges if you’re on a limited data plan.
