The long standing rumors of Intel Smartwatch finally came true when its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Justin Rattner confirmed the rumors. Intel is developing a Smartwatch device, but it wasn’t confirmed whether it is collaborating with Apple for its Apple iWatch development program which is also rumored many times.
Rattner revealed that Intel is indeed working and testing a number of experimental devices in the lab, one of which is a Smartwatch like device.
Rattner revealed to Venturebeat at the Bloomberg Next Big Thing conference:
Actually, we’re looking at novel display devices. The watch is kind of – if you want to put the time on it, that’s fine. But if you’re talking about texting today, wouldn’t it be nice if you could just look at your wrist?
He did not reveal more details about the device nor about the ‘novel display’ aspect of them. We will keep you updated as soon as more details are revealed about the same.
Smartwatch is newer buzzing market for technology giants, and many have already announced or rumored to have been developing a device of their own. Wearable technology is thought to be the next big thing in technology and will be a market worth billions of dollars in the coming few years. Sony is the only major giant who has released its Smartwatch till date. It received a lukewarm response so a few weeks ago Sony made it open source for inviting more interest in the same.
Pebble, a Smartwatch which received funding and support on Kickstarter, is the only successful offering till now. A few weeks ago, we reported that Motorola will make the Google Smartwatch and Microsoft is also developing a windows phone powered Smartwatch. This is not all; Samsung and LG are also looking to come up with their offering as well. The Smartwatch market might not pick up soon if Apple, who is also rumored to develop their own iWatch, officially comes up with one.
