The first few screenshots of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android have been leaked. The images show the sign-in screen of the app and the look and the feel of the app after signing in. Some lucky users of the BlackBerry Beta Zone even got the invite to test out the BBM Beta for Android devices. The minimum eligibility is an Android device running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, BlackBerry announced in mid-May that its renowned messaging app BlackBerry Messenger will go cross-platform this Summer. The BlackBerry, iOS and Android users will be able to chat seamlessly over BBM soon. The rollout will first bring just chat, but it will soon follow BBM Voice, BBM Video and even BBM channels. The same features which the BlackBerry users enjoy will be available on iOS and Android, and the best news is that it will be a free app.

First coming to screenshots, BlackBerry OS which leaked these screenshots confirmed that they are legitimate and from a real Android app. The first images do look good and shows that the app is inspired from the BlackBerry 10 OS design. The app in itself looks very similar to the BlackBerry Hub for BB10.

In a separate report by CrackBerry, it reveals the email invite that some lucky folks got in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The invite requests the shortlisted user to sign up for BBM beta and test it out on their Android device (ICS/4.x.x+) before it is revealed globally later this summer. The rumored date for the release has also passed so the things at BlackBerry HQ have been hasty.

Even though some things have become clear about BBM for Android, there is still no information on the status of BBM for iOS. The CrackBerry report predicts that if things stay on track, we are likely to see a BBM release for both Android and iOS in the coming weeks. The BlackBerry official announcement when the BBM has gone cross-platform was that it will be released by the end of the summer. This fall is likely to bring an end to summer and the wait for BBM along with it.
