Providing networking solution to most businesses with in-depth expertise and key technologies has remained as the main motive of Cisco. The company now seems to have made up its mind in joining tablet warfare by launching Cius, a business tablet with PC like functionalities.
Cius is designed to appeal the corporate set. The seven inch-tablet considered as an ideal combination of portability and functionality features an atom Z615 processor that ensure a speedy delivery of data and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo OS.
“Cius is not just another tablet. It has more to do with providing applications helping productivity in a secure environment,” quoted Cisco India and SAARC National Sales Manager (Unified Communications) Minhaj Zia to reporters in a teleconference.
It houses a 5MP camera on the rear side to support 720p recording. Besides this, Cius comes preloaded with Cisco apps like,
- Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (VPN)
- Cisco WebEx conferencing
- Quickoffice Lite
- Unified Inbox
- Visual Voicemail
And includes some highly customized apps too (jabber).

- Mini HDMI, micro USB and MicroSD support
- 32GB Built-in memory, expandable up to 32 GB more
- Bluetooth+ Wi-Fi functionality

Although no official statement has been made on the pricing of the enterprise tablet in India it is estimated to cost around 35000 Rs and should expect some demand from the ones who love teleconferencing. With the docking station, the price would rise up to Rs 50,000 (USD 1,000).
In all, Cius will prove handy in providing productivity solutions like e-mails and business applications on the go to executives. Cisco is busy discussing packages with various telecom operators. Sales in the tablet PC segment in India is expected to reach one million units mark over the next 12 months.
