This year’s MWC like every year set up new benchmarks for the Smartphone industry and sparked off some new concepts like Phablets and stuff like that, but there was an additional twist, The phones powered by Quad Core processors. The devices featuring the new nVidia Tegra 3 chipset that have four cores plus one battery saver core, have become the talk of the town. With them hitting the markets in March/April, you better be informed about which one to buy, and which not!
Quad Core Phones Launched at MWC 2012
1. HTC One X
2. LG Optimus 4X HD
3. Huawei Ascend D Quad
4. ZTE Era
HTC One X, Optimus 4X HD and Huawei Ascend are powered by Tegra 3, rated at 1.5Ghz, 1.5GHz and 1.3GHz respectively. Huawei Ascend is powered by Huawei K3V2 chipset featuring a 1.5GHz quad-core processor
All these are big phones and beautiful too. The HTC One X looks sleek and sexy with its uni-body design while the Optimus looks classy with metal and the new intuitive design. The Huawei and ZTE are phones with average looks.
The One X and Optimus 4X have the same type of screen, 4.7-inch, IPS 720p HD screen. The Ascend D has 4.5-inch screen which is 720p HD and the ZTE has a 4.3-inch, 540 x 960 pixel display
All these handsets have 802.11n Wi-Fi, HSDPA, HSUPA and Bluetooth 3.0 aside from the LG Optimus 4X HD which includes Bluetooth 4.0. All have accelerometers, proximity sensors, gyros and a compass plus A-GPS. The One X features Beats audio and an NFC chip.
All the cameras are 8MP with full 1080p video recording and LED flashes – the Ascend D Quad is the only one to stray with a dual-LED flash. All the phones have secondary cameras for video calling too.
Memory and storage
The LG and HTC have 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively, while the ZTE Era and Ascend D Quad both feature microSD storage as well as 8GB of internal storage. All the handsets have 1GB of RAM in them.
All phones run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, making them future proof.
So far the specs are concerned, HTC One X rocks the show. With the Sense 4.0 and additional connectivity features, it may be the best but the LG Optimus 4X HD is no slouch with better design and looks. The ZTE is poor in some aspects but the Huawei Ascend does give a tough competition. Given the price, the latter two would be priced lower, adding spice to the game.
