Difference between Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 and GT-I9100G

Samsung has a specific model number for their every phone like GT-I19100 for Galaxy S II, where Galaxy S II stands for codename. People generally don’t bother looking at the model number they just blindly look at the name Galaxy S II and buy the device. Many people have failed recognising their device and have purchased GT-I1900G instead of GT-I1900. Is there any difference between both the devices, Yes there is.

Both the phones are actually same, as they are categorised below Galaxy S II. But both differ in performance.

Here’s how:

Galaxy S II GT-I9100 is powered by 1.2GHz ARM CortexA9 Exynos 4210 and ARM Mali-400 GPU while GT-I9100G is powered by Texas Instruments OMAP4430 CPU and PowerVR SGX540 GPU. This is the main difference between both the phones leading to change in performance.

Drawbacks of GT-I1900G over GT-I1900

According to user reviews, though Samsung has mentioned the clock speed for Galaxy S II (GT-I1900G) to be 1.2GHz it doesn’t exceed 1.008GHz and that’s why some games might encounter problem while launching. Also custom ROM’s, MOD’s and patches developed for GT-I1900 are more as compared to GT-I1900G being very few. Poor 3D performance has been noted from GT-I1900G with low frame rates, and even small lags while jumping between apps (multitasking). Rest, both the phones are exactly same.

Benefits of GT-I1900G over GT-I1900

From the user reviews, it is found that Samsung has fixed the overheating issue which was found in GT-I1900. So GT-I1900G doesn’t overheat easily. Also, the quick battery drain problem from GT-I1900 is manually fixed in GT-I1900G (without software update).

If you are wondering about battery life of GT-I1900, you shouldn’t worry because the battery problem is fixed from a software update (2.3.5).
