Refurbished products are essentially products that were once new, but have since been serviced in an attempt to restore them to their new state. There are numerous types of items that are refurbished, from refurbished computer hardware to laptops and printers. Some people are hesitant to purchase refurbished items because they believe that there were problems with the items initially or that they are actually used items.

While refurbished items can actually be items that were damaged, broken or sent back to a factory to be repaired, in some cases, refurbished items can actually be new items that simply didn’t sell, so they then became listed as refurbished and at refurbished prices in an attempt to sell them.

Moreover, in some cases, refurbished items can be just as good as brand new items, if not better. Sometimes whenever repairs are made to items, the engineers who repair them add features that make them even better than the original version were. Additionally, if an item has broken down once and been refurbished or fixed, then there is less of a likelihood that it’s going to break down again, which could make it more advantageous to buy than the original product anyways. When buying an item that has already been refurbished, the faulty part has already been replaced, meaning that the consumer doesn’t have to worry about fixing it because it’s already been done.

Of course, perhaps the greatest benefit to purchasing a refurbished item is the discounted price that can be obtained on it. Refurbished items can sometimes be purchased for nearly half the price of the original item if it was purchased brand new from the manufacturer. Purchasing refurbished items might be more ideal for some types of items than others, though. For instance, customers have the potential to save hundreds or thousands of dollars when purchasing a refurbished refrigerator, which might make the risks of purchasing a refurbished one worth it. An iPod, however, consumers won’t be saving as much on to purchase refurbished. Therefore, it might not be worth it to take the risk.

Regardless, refurbished items can offer consumers a variety of benefits. In many cases, the refurbished items are just as good as new ones, and there are plenty of monetary savings to be had by purchasing refurbished items. Purchasing refurbished items is an ideal way for people on a budget to still have the brand name items that they want at prices they can afford.

Regardless of what domain name you choose for your website, blog or ecommerce site, you can always add more domain names to bolster your online presence. Take the time to explore the world of domain names and all that they can do to help you increase your business profits. Take the time to look for, and possibly buy a domain at, as well as other domain and hosting companies.

A professional domain provider will help you understand the value of your domain name and how to find the right one. Search with the easy-to-use search tools that a company like Network Solutions offers you or seamlessly transfer a domain name that you already have from your current web hosting company.

If you own or purchase more than one domain name to help fortify your website or ecommerce page, forward all of those domain names to your primary domain name to consolidate your business and website traffic. Choosing similar names for your sub-domains will help your customers find you, even when the slightly misspell your company’s, or your website domain’s, name when entering it into the search engine bar. Pick out some of the most obvious, or not so obvious, misspellings and buy those domains before your competitors do.

Make sure you buy domain expiration protection so you never have to worry about losing the rights to your website’s name. Customers will get to know you and your domain name as your business grows, so the last thing you want is to lose your important and respected domain name because of an expiration date. Check with your domain and web host professionals to make sure you will never need to worry about losing your ecommerce website’s identity to a competitor or simply into the ether.

Whether you want to buy a .com, .org, a .co or some other extension, find the right one for you. Though .com is the most common business, you might consider buying domains featuring your primary domain with the other extensions, since sometimes customers aren’t sure which one your company uses. Also, the .co extension is becoming increasingly popular since, many times, customers accidentally leave off the final letter in haste to continue their search.

Consider all the exciting possibilities available to you when you start to focus on the power of domain names in driving traffic to your company’s website and protecting your company name.

Just as the Android Operating System crossed the landmark of 1 billion device activations, Google revealed the next version of Android OS called Android KitKat. The next version of Android is 4.4 and not 5.0 which everyone was predicting, as it is just a smaller upgrade. Google has already placed the KitKat Android version statue along with others in its Mountain View headquarters. Android boss Sundar Pichai shared a photo via his Twitter account.

Nestle KitKat chocolate bar lovers will rejoice in hearing this bit. Google even entered into a no-money mutually beneficial deal with Nestle. Under this deal, Google will get to use the name and Nestle will deliver more than 50 million chocolate bars featuring the new Android mascot to shops in 19 markets including the UK, US, Brazil, Russia, Japan and India. Apple should actually be envious as Google was able to keep such a great surprise under wraps for so long when its own iPhone has been leaked several times before its upcoming launch on September 10.

Android KitKat

John Lagerling, Director of Android Global Partnerships, confessed in an interview with BBC on why it chose to go with KitKat instead of Key Lime Pie:

We realized that very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie. One of the snacks that we keep in our kitchen for late-night coding are KitKats. And someone said: ‘Hey, why don’t we call the release KitKat?’

In related news, the image of the first look of the next Nexus Smartphone has been lying around the Internet. It is leaked as a part of Google’s Android KitKat statue unveiling video. The snapshot in particular shows both Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 being held by two people standing next to each other. The video has been taken down by Google, but someone managed to mirror it before. The Smartphone seems to be made by LG due to its particular back design and seems a little bigger indicating a 5-inch screen size. Rumor mill indicated that both Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat will be announced by Google in an event next month.

Google has not exclusively revealed about any features of the new version but a video which was put up on Nestle Kitkat’s YouTube page a few hours ago spills some beans. Even though the video described KitKat chocolate bar, it clearly made fun of Jony Ive’s Apple iPhone 5’s feature video in revealing some of the upcoming enhancements in Android KitKat. Android 4.4 KitKat will have a carefully crafted user interface for ‘immersive and multi-sensory experience.’ ‘Edge to Edge display’ indicated less distortion towards the edges and ‘Unlimited Standby Time’ hints at longer battery life. Other than this, we also expect it to come with similar cloud integration to Apple’s iCloud and better Enterprise security mirroring BlackBerry. Stay tuned for more info in the coming days.

Location based check-in application Foursquare has released a major update for its Android app. It now offers the users location-based recommendations via push notifications. The feature works even when the user has not checked-in. These new background notifications help users discover more when they check-in on their favorite place.

Foursquare explained how these would work and what would the additional battery drain:

When sitting down for dinner in a new restaurant, the app will suggest a popular dish on the menu. Likewise, when a user enters a new city for the first time, the app might recommend some of the best places to visit. From our internal tests on a bunch of phones, it only increases the drain about 0.7 percent per hour, or, over the course of a day, the equivalent of about a 20-minute game of Angry Birds.

Previously the applications suggested the tagged locations nearby to your place of check-in, but now it will keep working the background and will ping you whenever you are in the neighborhood of an interesting place. Foursquare aims to provide as much information about the whereabouts to the users as possible and keep them engaged in the application.

In related news, the previous rumors that Microsoft has approached Foursquare for an investment opportunity have been dismissed. According to the sources, Foursquare’s spokesperson Brendan Lewis has dismissed the reports.

Foursquare has over 4 billion check-ins and more than 32 million tips that have been shared globally via the service related to the places or services worth discovering. The update is being rolled out to the users gradually and you can download it from the Google Play Store as soon as it is available for your region. For the time being, it is being rolled out to the Android users only and will be coming to iPhone in the coming weeks.

A small and useful update to Google Search word functionality will definitely be appreciated by logophiles. Don’t know the meaning of logophile? Don’t worry, Google it. You’ll also get to see what changes Google has brought to word search.

Google Search for words now shows sample sentences, translations, synonyms, and word’s usage over time, spoken responses and links to sites such as Wikipedia, and for further information about the searched word. For those who don’t know about this function, you can get the meaning of any word by Googling “define + word” in Google Search. The updated search is available for desktop browsers but on mobile devices, a concise definition (see serene) is put in your face explaining the word’s meaning in different parts of speech and only a couple of synonyms to go with it.

Google noted in a Google+ post:

You may be familiar with using Google to find definitions, like [define fortuitous]. We’ve recently updated this feature on on desktop and mobile to give you more information about these words beyond just their definition. Now you’ll also see sample sentences that highlight how the word is used, as well as synonyms. If you tap the microphone on your Google Search app, you’ll hear answers spoken back when you ask questions like “What’s the definition of fortuitous?” and “What are synonyms for fortuitous?”

define fortuituos

Google also allows you to translate the word from the result box directly into more than 60 languages. You can always set a default language so that it displays the transition in your preferred language each time. Google noted that the feature is available for both mobile and desktop, but like I declared above, I got a very rudimentary explanation on mobile. It might be getting rolled out region wise and might reach my mobile in sometime.

This is interesting not only for logophiles but also for bibliophiles who read on Play Books app. This is because Play Books app on the phone also pulls the meaning of the word from Google Search when you long tap on a word. We’ll keep an eye out for other changes as well and will keep you posted. Google also provides similar features like currency conversions, unit conversions, nutrition data, translations, dates, times and much more. We expect similar upgrades to those features in the weeks ahead.

The latest beta version of Chrome for Android gets manifold new features. Chrome Beta for Android version 30 brings universal image search, gesture controls and some under the hood changes. You can search an image through Google from the browser, just like the Desktop version of Chrome. The feature was also available earlier via an extension on the Desktop.

Jianning Ding, Software Engineer & Speedy Searcher for Google noted in a blog post:

With today’s Beta release of Chrome you can quickly discover all sorts of content related to an image by right-clicking on it, or by long pressing it on mobile devices, and selecting the option to search for it within your default search provider.

The gestures work more intuitively than before and try to reduce the accidental tab switching while panning and scrolling through the web pages when browsing. You can swipe horizontally in a strikethrough manner across the top toolbar to switch tabs. This gesture replaces the earlier gesture of swiping from the edge of the screen to switch tabs.

If you need to go into the tab switcher view for quicker access to random tabs, you can drag vertically down from the toolbar to see the tab switcher view. It even allows you to select an item without having to lift the finger by dragging down from the menu to open the open and select the item.

Many of the under-the-hood changes also provide sufficient reasons to upgrade to this release. This includes WebGL in Chrome for Android which helps in rendering interactive 2D and 3D graphics for devices with high-end GPUs. It even brings Media Source Extensions for providing streaming to mobile devices when connectivity is unpredictable and DeviceMotion Events for information about device acceleration and rotation rates in Chrome for Android. You can read more about them in Chromium blog.

You can download Chrome Beta for Android from the Google Play Store.

Google has released a major update to its Keep note-taking app on Android. Google Keep was revealed in March this year and was a bare bones to-do list app for a quick note taking, jotting down tasks and organizing them in different color codes for easy usage. The new 2.0.35 version brings time and location based reminders powered by Google Now.

Google Keep updated

Erin Rosenthal, Product Manager at Google noted in a blog post:

Google Keep can remind you of important tasks and errands at just the right time and place. For example, Keep works with Google Now to remind you of your grocery list when you walk into your favorite grocery store, and nudges you on Thursday night to take out the trash.

“Remind Me” option allows users to add time and location based reminders, and it is powered by Google Now which presents information in a concise, card-style manner. Adding a location based reminder is very easy. As soon as you start typing Google Keep suggests the places nearby. The location tag also alerts you to your note when you are near the destination. You can always snooze these reminders for another place and time.

Google Keep

The app also brings a familiar three-dot menu button on the left as a part of the new interface. Users can review all the upcoming reminders and can modify them as per need. Users with multiple accounts can switch easily between them making it easier to maintain the balance between personal and professional life. Adding photos to your note has also been made easier. Add picture option will allow you to take a new picture or choose an existing one from the gallery.

A bit of the con is that the location based reminders require the GPS location services to be activated at all times. This won’t be good news for most Smartphone users with poor batteries because GPS drains the battery like crazy. The updated Keep is also available as a standalone app via Chrome apps and any web browser from the address You can hit the Google Play Store to download Keep on your Android device right now! Be patient because the update is being rolled out gradually so it might take some time to reach your region and device.

Google has announced that its users on iOS and Android will be able to see the real time incident reports made by the Waze app users. Waze is a turn by turn GPS navigation app which uses the crowd-sourced data from its users for traffic delays and other incident reportage and to suggest better alternative routes. Google acquired Waze two months back in June.

Google noted in an official blog post:

Users of Google Maps for Mobile will now benefit from real time incident reports from Waze users. This means when Wazers report accidents, construction, road closures, and more on Waze, the updates will also appear on the Google Maps app for Android and iOS.

The feature is currently being rolled out in selected countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, UK and the US. Google has not said anything about other regions but we expect Google to extend the feature to other Google Maps users as well once the feature is successfully rolled out in these countries.

Screen Shot 2013-08-19 at 3.56.00 PM

The Waze app will continue to exist as a separate app, despite of its integration with Google Maps and other Google services. Google also said the benefit is mutual as the Waze app has also been updated with Google Search, Google Street View and Satellite imagery. Waze has revealed that these incident reportages on Google Maps will not show the user profiles, but Waze users will still get points for these incidents reports.

For those who also have Waze installed, you can check out the complete details of changes in this Waze blog post. To download or update the latest version of Google Maps for your country, head to Google Play Store or Apple App Store, depending on your device. If you’re tempted to check out the Waze app, then head down to Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
