From last few days, news about Sony’s PlayStation Network getting hacked was all over the web. Now one more news is coming about Data breach in network of another popular online gaming service. This time Microsoft Xbox Live has issues a security alert!
Microsoft has issued a warning for Xbox users about a “Potential Phishing Scam” occurring on Xbox Live. The alert comes in the wake of a massive data hack on the PlayStation Network.
The company said Xbox Live users “Xbox live users may receive potential fishing [sic] attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2.” The Xbox Live Status page on Xbox.com currently has issued a service alert for those playing Modern Warfare 2 online, specifically during matchmaking.
Microsoft mentioned in the alert:
Users may experience difficulties with the following services:
Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2.
We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.
The “phishing” attempt is to get hold of player’s Service Passwords and Credit Card information. It is a common thing over online services, but companies regularly warns their users to play safe and not to click on suspicious links. Microsoft currently put up a warning notification to warn its subscribers about suspicious phishing activity.
It is not indicative of any huge network flaw, unlike the Sony PlayStation Network hack, where 77 million user data were stolen (which might include Credit Card information!). It is estimated by experts that, Sony will lose around whopping 24$ billion because of the “massive hack” to its PlayStation network.
Let’s keep an eye on Microsoft XBOX Online service, which might officially announce, whether it’s hacked or not after some days. Sony also announced a week later that it’s PlayStation and Qriocity, online music service had been hacked and user data was compromised.
Most probably Sony’s Network hack has made all the other companies sit up and take notice!
