How to play Classic Atari 2600 games on your Linux system

For all the gamer who are now grown-ups, childhood days will never come back but their gaming experience can. If you ever played games on Atari 2600, one of the most successful video games consoles in history that gaming experience can be relieved.

People from all age groups, young or old, can try Stella! Stella is an emulator for Atari 2600 games for Linux systems that allows you to play the classics on your Linux system almost perfectly. The best part is you don’t need a Radeon HD7990 and Intel Core i7 2600k to do that! It’ll run fine on a Pentium III system too!

Here’s a step by step tutorial demonstrating the same! If you like it, please share it on your favorite social network(s)!

  1. Download and install Stella from here. Debian (and its derivatives like Ubuntu and Linux Mint) Users can do a quick sudo apt-get install stella
    to do that.
  2. Then go to this site and get hundreds of ROMs for your gaming. They are free, termed as abandonware as no one bothers to ask for a price for them. Extract the .bin file from the zip
  3. Run Stella and load the ROM. You see that the game doesn’t work.
  4. Open the Menu. Minimize Stella to do this. Now select Input settings, go to UI Events Tab and Map the keys. Exit the menu
  5. Press F2 to start the game and enjoy!

Please note that all games don’t always work the first time. Try managing the settings and try to make them work. Why don’t you try Pacman, Breakout, Yarl’s Revenge. The list is endless. Do share this article to ensure that all your pals get that nostalgic feeling!

So, what are you waiting for? Start playing classic Atari 2600 games on your Linux system. Hope you have liked the tutorial. Do not forget to share it with your friends.
