LG has officially announced a mid-range L-series II Smartphone at a local launch event in the Netherlands. LG Optimus L9 II D605 will go on sale in selected European markets including Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Romania beginning October. The Smartphone was leaked just yesterday, and most of its leaked specifications were correct.

Here is a list of the official specifications:

  • 4.7 inch True IPS 720p HD display
  • 1.4 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8320 processor with Adreno 305 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 8 GB Storage, Micro SD card for expansion up to 64 GB
  • 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 2150 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS with Optimus UI on top

It is the successor to the older LG Optimus L9 which was launched last year. It sports some decent specifications and could become an instant success if LG prices it aggressively. No other details were revealed regarding the price and global availability.

In related news, LG G Pad has been made official via the leaked video teaser for the tablet. The tablet is crowned as LG G Pad 8.3 and will be revealed in the upcoming days. It is officially expected to be announced at the IFA Trade Fair in Berlin which commences from September 4. The video does not leak any details into the looks, designs or specifications, but a Korean site leaked a render showing the tablet.

The render looks like an enlarged version of LG G2 which indicates that LG has taken a cue from Samsung by following its footsteps to bring a magnified phone like design. LG G Pad specifications have been rumored extensively in the past few leaks, and LG G Pad 8.3 is expected to have an 8.3 inch 1920×1200 pixel display, a quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM and Android Jelly Bean OS.

Korean giant LG which recently revealed its G2 flagship Android Smartphone is preparing another L-series II Smartphone dubbed Optimus L9 II for launch in the upcoming days. The Smartphone will join LG’s L-series II Smartphones family members Optimus L1 II, L3 II, L4 II, L5 II and L7 II. It is likely to be announced in a couple of days, possibly before the end of August, but this is just a speculation.

According to a report by The Unlockr, LG Optimus L9 II will come with a 4.7 inch 720p HD display and will pack 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8320 processor with Adreno 305 GPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, Micro SD card slot, 8 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front facing camera. The Smartphone will be backed up by a 2150 mAh battery and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS.

It is strange that the Smartphone’s name still carries ‘Optimus’ branding. LG has previously announced that it will get rid of the Optimus branding in all its future devices. It was also confirmed in the name of LG’s flagship handset LG G2 and is likely to be followed in its upcoming LG G Pad tablet and LG Vu 3 phablet. However, its L-series still finds it difficult to get rid of the Optimus brand name. It will be confirmed once the Smartphone is officially revealed, so take everything with a pinch of salt.

In related news, upcoming LG Android tablet LG G Pad will come with a Snapdragon 600 processor and will support only Wi-Fi. According to Korean website News Tomato, LG G Pad will feature a quad core Snapdragon 600 processor instead of the previously rumored quad core Snapdragon 800 processor. The site cited LG sources and also added that there will be two versions based on connectivity- LTE and Wi-Fi only version, which will be sold by Verizon in US and in Korean market respectively. There won’t be any 3G/HSPA based variant.

LG G Pad was previously spotted in Bluetooth SIG and later on confirmed by an LG executive. The Bluetooth SIG listing hints at two variants – a Wi-Fi variant and a 3G or LTE enabled variant. The tablet is likely to have an 8.3 inch WXUGA display with 1920×1200 pixel resolution. It is expected to be unveiled at IFA 2013 in Berlin and will start shipping by the end of September.

We’ll keep looking for more related news and will keep you posted. So stay tuned to our blog.

LG Bulgaria executive Dimitar Vulev has revealed to a Bulgarian blog in an interview that we can expect a tablet and a Smartwatch from the company in the upcoming months. Many of these products were already rumored, and the frank revelations from the executive helped cement them now. The tablet which is dubbed as LG G Pad is rumored to come with 8.3 inch 1920x1200p display, 2 GB of RAM and a quad-core processor.

Vulev declared to Dnevnik.bg in an interview (translated):

LG anticipates participation in the segment of tablets. The market is very competitive, and there is a struggle for survival. Most manufacturers operate at a loss. But since it is a growing market and will emerge as a very large market over the next few years, LG will take part. Probably by the end of the year there will be a tablet.

Since the tablet is expected to land in Bulgaria by the end of the year and it is not the first country to receive the tablet, we can expect the tablet to land in other countries before the 2013-end. Vulev also revealed that LG might also reveal a Smartwatch next year. He added that the Smartwatch might feature a flexible display and will first land in the United States. He did not reveal any other details about the product. We had spotted a few other rumors in the past suggesting a Smartwatch from LG, but this is the first such confirmation from an LG executive.

LG recently filed trademarks with the KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) as reported some time ago. The filing showed the trademarks for LG GPAD, G Watch, G Glass, G Link, G Band and G Hub. These are the expected trademarks for LG tablet, Smartwatch, Google Glass competitor, a connector between Smart TV and LG devices, fitness Smart Activity Tracker and a wireless internet Hub respectively. We have had confirmations of two of these, which mean the rest will follow in the upcoming months or possibly next year.

LG executive Vulev also said that LG is also working with Mozilla on a Firefox OS powered Smartphone, but it is only expected to be revealed next year. He also hinted that LG will also produce even bigger Android phones and enter the phablet market next year. He did not reveal anything about the remaining products on the KIPO trademark filing so we will have to look to other sources and rumors to keep you informed. So stay tuned to our blog!

LG is rumored to be developing the next generation LG Vu Smartphone despite the first two generations of the Smartphone being not very successful. The leaked specifications indicate some beastly upgrades. The upgraded LG Vu 3 will come with 5.2 inch 1280x960p display resolution up from the original 5 inch 1280x720p resolution, and it will retain the 4:3 aspect ratio of its predecessors.

Other upgrades include the dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor being upgraded to beastly Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, which is the best mobile CPU as of today. LG Vu 3 is also predicted to keep the 2 GB RAM which was also sported by its predecessor LG Optimus Vu 2. As you would have noticed by now that LG will also drop the Optimus branding so that the next Smartphone will be called LG Vu 3.

According to Korean site Asiae.co.kr, LG Vu 3 will also feature a 13 MP rear camera and LTE-A support. Vu 3 is also expected to come with a stylus but it seems rather odd that how does the 4:3 aspect ratio will encourage users to choose Vu 3 over the recently revealed company flagship LG G2 or any other regular format Smartphone. LG should have pondered on the fact that if 4:3 aspect ratio would have worked then LG Optimus Vu and Optimus Vu 2 would have been successful.

According to other rumors, the expected model numbers are F-300K, F-300L and F-300S, but it is not yet known how these will differ from one another. A good guess would be regional differentiated variants. There is no information on which Android version is going to go into the device, but we expect it to be at least Android 4.2.2. The device is expected to be launched at the LG event in IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin to be held from September 6 to 11. Check out our previous report on the leaked images from the camera of LG Vu 3.

In related news by Techblog.gr, the upcoming tablet from LG is dubbed LG G Pad and will feature an 8.3 inch 1920x1200p Full HD IPS display. The tablet will be powered by a quad core processor and 2 GB of RAM. The report says that the tablet will be a very thin device with even smaller bezels and will come with Aluminium back and without any voice calling support. The tablet is also expected to be unveiled at the IFA trade fair in Berlin next month and will compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and next-Gen iPad Mini.

As LG has been busy promoting its recently launched flagship Smartphone LG G2 globally, details on an upcoming tablet by LG has been revealed in a Bluetooth SIG filing. We have been hearing a lot of buzzwords in the rumor mill for the LG’s upcoming Android tablet, and the latest filing has given some credibility to its existence. Those who are familiar with Bluetooth SIG listings will know that they carry only model numbers, but a few logical deductions suggest that it might actually be a tablet.

It can be seen in the Bluetooth SIG listing that the new tablet will carry model numbers LG-V500 and LG-V507L which falls in the same numbering scheme as the original Optimus Pad did with model number LG-V900. Techkiddy is also claiming that the two different model numbers hints at two variants of the tablet, a Wi-Fi variant and another 4G LTE variant. What else would L stand for in V507L?

Coming to the conclusion of the device being a tablet, we know that whenever an LG mobile phone clears the Bluetooth certification, it is usually listed as an LG 3G Mobile Phone or LG GSM Mobile Phone or LG LTE Mobile Phone in the description, but here the description says ‘LG Mobile Device.’ This rules out a Smartphone and we are left with a tablet.

Unwired has also revealed more details into the specifications and launch date. The blog argues that the highlighted part of the Software Version Number field is close to APQ8064 which hints towards a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Only two processors qualify for the above official designation which includes Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064) or Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T), both of which are quad core processors.

The new tablet is likely to be called G Pad or G Tab, since LG has dropped the ‘Optimus’ branding from all its future products. The rumors are also predicting the IFA in Berlin as the likely place where the Korean giant is expected to unveil the tablet in the first week of September. Excited aficionados should, however, note that even Sherlock Holmes refrained from giving conclusions until he had complete data at hand so take these data-scarce deductions with a grain of salt. We will keep an eye out for more credible data and will keep you posted.

LG officially announced LG G2 with a 5.2 inch Full HD True IPS display powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core SoC. In an interesting design change, LG has included the volume rocker and a power button on the back of the Smartphone below the 13 MP camera and has thus been able to keep the bezels ultra small with no buttons on sides. It will use a Nano-SIM and will be the first Smartphone to support 24 bit, 192 KHz audio outputs.

Here is a list of specifications:

Dr. Jong-Seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications said:

We have always listened to and learned from consumers in pursuit of innovation. We took these insights to new heights in developing LG G2, the most exciting and ambitious mobile phone in our company’s history.

LG has included some great new software features and UI elements:

  • KnockON: Can turn on/off the display using the knocking gesture twice on the screen
  • Answer Me: Answers the phone automatically (while lowering the volume) when raised to the ear
  • Plug & Pop: Recommends options that are likely to be used with a headset, when plugged in
  • Text Link: Lets user select text in an SMS and save it in the memo/calendar, Maps and/or Search.
  • Guest Mode: Customized guest mode with pre-selected apps with a secondary unlock pattern
  • Quick Remote: Controls home entertainment devices and learns “to operate multiple devices with flexible layouts and keys”
  • Slide Aside: Switch between apps (multitasking) using three finger swipe

LG G2 is also the first Smartphone to use Graphic RAM which reduces the power consumption by 26% on still frames and increase usage time by 10%. LG G2 full HD IPS display also packs 6 million subpixels compared to just 4 million on Galaxy S4’s Full HD Amoled display. Other than screen quality, more subpixels bring longer life to the display. LG has also put up a barrage of official G2 videos on its YouTube UK channel. LG G2 will be released over 130 wireless carriers in the next two months, starting with South Korea followed by North America, Europe and other markets. In the US, it will be available on all four major telecom operators. No information was given on pricing.

Everyone is expecting the launch of LG G2, but that is not going to be the only upcoming device from LG. According to two new leaked images, LG Vu 3 is also in the works and is expected to release soon after LG G2. The two images were spotted on Picasa and seem to be captured from the rear camera of Vu 3. It appears from the image that the camera is going to be at least a 13 MP one. The image also reveals the model number as LG-F300L, and the image is named as vu3-vr-panorama, thus indicating the upcoming Smartphone from LG.

lg-vu3-image (1)

Coming to the specifications, it looks that LG will stick to the unique 4:3 aspect ratio which is supported by the Vu family Smartphones. The resolution will get an upgrade to 1280×960 pixels. The device will come with a 5 inch display. As LG revealed some  time ago that it will drop ‘Optimus’ from its future Smartphone names hence the branding will only be short and sweet LG Vu 3. There isn’t any more information about the leaked Smartphone.

In related leak by RB Men, the UAProf of a related model LG-F300K has also been made available which marked the screen size of 16:9 1920×1080. The blog is saying that there is a possibility of an incorrect version of UAProf. We suggest taking the news with a grain of salt.

We can expect the Smartphone to launch in the upcoming days in LG’s home country Korea followed by the rest of the world. A late Summer or an early fall launch seems probable. Since the information comes only via the images, whose details can be easily altered, we suggest the rare Vu Smartphone aficionados to hold their excitation till any other robust source confirms the Smartphone in development. We don’t know whether anyone will still be interested in the unique 4:3 aspect Smartphone or not. Let us see if and when LG makes it official.

To remind you the LG Optimus Vu II was announced in February and is still awaiting a worldwide launch. It will come with a 5 inch HD IPS LCD display with 1024×768 display. It will pack a 1,5 GHz dual core Krait processor with Adreno 225 GPU and 2 GB RAM. It will have 8 MP autofocus rear camera and a 1.3 MP front facing camera. The Smartphone will be backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 2150 mAh battery and will run on old Android 4.0.4 ICS. We will keep an eye out for more details on LG Vu 3 and will keep you posted.

LG has officially announced that LG G2 will be the next flagship by the Korean giant which will succeed its predecessor LG Optimus G. It also said that it has dropped the Optimus branding for its entire future premium Smartphones and will name them with G branding, G2 getting the first honors. LG also said that the future 4:3 aspect ratio Smartphones will also skip the Optimus branding and will simply be released under Vu branding.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said:

Our vision is to make LG’s newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience. The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G Series products

LG G2 is confirmed for the August 7 event by LG in New York. It is expected to feature the world’s thinnest Full HD LCD display. A recent WSJ report also revealed its specifications once again, with nothing much new to learn. The report confirmed that it will come with 5.2 inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 800 quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB internal storage, 13 MP rear camera, a front camera and will run on Android 4.2.2. The only new piece of information was that it will be backed up by a 2650 mAh battery, which seems to be underrated for such a beastly Smartphone. Real time battery tests will expose the complete truth, and we will hold the judgment till then.

To remind you, LG has tried to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Note series with their previous LG Optimus Vu and Optimus G, but without much success. A recently launched LG Optimus G Pro is an early bird attempt to compete with the expected Galaxy Note 3. The best of the best LG G2 seems to be a good level competitor for Galaxy Note 3 and is expected to grab some of Samsung’s hard earned customers by launching it preemptively on August 8, when Galaxy Note 3 announcement is expected on September 4.

There will be huge competition in the phablet market with Sony having announced its phablet Xperia Z ultra and rumors of HTC also prepping its HTC One Max phablet. The interests of consumers have been shifting to larger screens, and many companies are jumping on to the bandwagon to make hay while the sun shines. Even Chinese and local Asian manufacturers like Micromax, Huawei, Karbonn are also launching their affordable phablets to entice native users in the emerging markets. We will see how it goes for LG G2 and upcoming Vu Smartphones.

LG has announced an ultra thin 5.2 inch Full HD LCD panel which is just 2.2mm across. It is highly probable to be used in LG Optimus G2, which is also rumored to feature a 5.2 inch display and is one of the most hyped upcoming Smartphone by LG in an event on August 7. The display also features a thin 2.3 mm bezel which explains the thin bezel in LG Optimus G2 in photos and videos leaked recently.

Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim, VP and Head of LG Display’s IT and Mobile Development Group said:

Today’s introduction of the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end Smartphone segment and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies. LG Display will continue its commitment to developing products that maximize consumer value as well as opening new doors for the mobile and tablet PC industry.

The new panel uses One Glass Solution (OGS), which is an arrangement in which distance between display and touch is reduced by making them one. This also enables it to have better brightness levels and viewing angles than existing displays. As a consequence, it can also offer a maximum brightness of 535 nits. It has 1920×1080 pixels consisting of Red, Green and Blue (RGB) subpixels.

LG also noted in a press release:

Only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel, LG Display’s new panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. This world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel will provide larger visible display space on Smartphones, critical as mobile devices are used for multimedia viewing more than ever before.

To remind you, LG Optimus G2 is also confirmed to be coming with a Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and is rumored to feature 3 GB of RAM and a 13 MP rear camera. It is expected to run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Optimus UI on top. The complete picture gallery can be viewed by Engadget while the credit for the video goes to 4Leakz.
