Talking the cell phone language, a wide array of high octane devices has been hitting the market these days. Talk of big players like HTC, Samsung or maybe Apple; another one worth mentioning is the US phone manufacturer, Motorola. Born with a passion of design and technology, the company has been rolling out some of the best and most popular phones from time to time; and their latest edition is called the ‘Droid Bionic’, designed with a robotic theme in mind.

  • LTE connectivity as well as a dual core processor
  • Designer and themed body
  • Vibrant Screen

  • Bit bulkier and large
  • Launched late for cell phones with similar DNA and make
  • Expensive regarding its peers in markets

Technical Specifications

Talking in terms of the Bionic’s best features, that set it a class apart or maybe something that makes it worth the wait are simply the catchiest ones.

Some of the most notable features that make the Droid Bionic a word of envy are as follows:

  • 1 GHz dual core processor(Motorola New Generation Chips)
  • The mixture of LTE and dual core for a surprise
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread); tailor-made to Bionic
  • 4G enabled with speeds hitting 12Mbps(up) and 5Mbps(down)
  • VGA face camera and 8MP Primary camera capable of 1080p video capture
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2Dp, EDR; Wi-Fi enabled
  • Capable of handling multiple networks; CDMA 800, CDMA 1900, LTE B13 700
  • Taper down design feature measuring only 11.3mm at the slimmest edge.
  • Capacitive Touchscreen; 540 * 960 pixels; qHD display
  • Inbuilt GPS with A-GPS support
  • Java and Flash readily supported
  • Juiced up battery to provide descent longevity up to 11hr talk time (195hr standby)
  • Inbuilt sensors like accelerometer and proximity sensor for top-class user experience in phone controls to multimedia apps
  • Business ready with productivity and security features

Motorola’s Droid Bionic indeed has evolved from its previous forms and has done a lot of homework to make this new release more attractive and a probable hit in the market.

Talking the Droid Bionic in terms of design features, it does share a lot similarity with its predecessors, the Droid X and Droid X2; the design DNA boasts the feeling of a new born look with appropriate use of metal and a tapper down look up to 11.3mm at its slimmest edge. With 4.3 inch qHD display upfront, this device indeed is a trend setter with viewing angles of up to 180 degrees. With Corning Gorilla glass and an anti-reflective coating, Droid Bionic indeed is a forerunner in display quality and not to forget the ability to handle resolution up to 1080p.

Coming onto the heart and soul of the Bionic, powered with a 1GHz processor and a 1700 mAh battery, the duo promises better performance and longevity too. The description wouldn’t be complete without the mention of the 16GB internal memory and the slot for up to 32GB card storage.

Although it sound to be the same 8MP camera on its previous versions, the Bionic is filled with load of photo editing features and also is able to capture motion at 1080p. There also is a secondary camera (VGA) facing the user to facilitate high speed video calls.

As with all other models in this arena, the Bionic also has only a few buttons and jacks (a headphone and power jack, one micro-USB and one micro-HDMI port) on its hardware. Pumped up with a slightly modified version of Android Gingerbread; and it also comes pre-installed with some appreciable software like QuickQffice and MotoPrint.

DROID Bionic Price

$589.99(without plan) and $249.99(with plan) on official website.

Final Word

Droid Bionic may have come a bit late into the arena; bit the design DNA and the host of inbuilt features makes it one of the most probable success in Motorola’s smartphones. For more on the device it is worth getting one for the tag of $300 in the open market.

Motorola Mobility announced it’s mid end smartphone last year named as Motorola Defy. This thing got much demand due to it’s sturdy build and rugged surface. Being close competitor to Galaxy Ace from Samsung people went with Galaxy Ace over Defy that was because its poor hardware specs comparatively to the Ace.

Motorola didn’t undergo any major revamp in Defy + but just some minor hardware changes. Looking at every department there’s nothing such worth to be compared as almost every department is same except the CPU and the operating system. This new phone or the successor of Defy has just change in it’s internal hardware and rest is completely same including the dimensions of the phone too.

Defy and Galaxy Ace are just the twin brothers but Defy is rugged where as Ace is delicate as compared to that. Defy and Galaxy Ace shows off the CPU clocked at same speed but Ace ran ahead due to the unofficial Gingerbread ROM initially where Defy lagged.

Defy is modified with increase in CPU clocks for Defy+ and now the all new Defy+ runs at 1GHz instead of previous 800MHz the next modification is based on OS level, the Android 1.6 for Defy which was upgradable only upto Android 2.2 has now broke the limits and now Defy+ is factory ROM’d with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Defy was pure classic and rugged where as Defy+ reaches new heights of strength and is IP67 certified with dust and water proof feature that too 1m in depth below the water level intact upto 30mins. That’s really impressive and makes Defy+ to be demanded over the mining or navy basis.

Well, yes even the battery for Defy+ undergoes modification and the older 1540mAh battery is replaced with 1700mAh. However in my opinion the the battery backup of the Defy+ will be approximately same like the old Defy due to its 1GHz CPU and Gingerbread being power hungry.

In this era of Tablet computing we picked two of the latest tablets against one another. The Apple’s iPad2 and the Motorola XOOM two respectable tablets under market right now the kind of price  almost similar to one another and both have similar hardware under the hood such as large displays, 1GHz Dual Core Processor, Front and Rear cameras so let’s compare these devices and see which one will be the favorable among the two.

apple-ipad-2-vs-motorola-xoom comparison

Detailed Comparison of Apple iPad 2 Vs Motorola XOOM Tablets:

The Design

On the surface they might not look different from one another built with premium choice materials. The first thing that captures our attention  is  iPad’s intricate razor thin profile an engineering marvel when compared to the XOOM, the Motorola XOOM being 0.5” is thicker than the iPad2 being 0.34”.

The iPad2 with its sides give a comfortable feel and also prefer the brushed Aluminum case better equipped at repelling scratches, debris, and fingerprints. Whereas XOOM, its metallic rear casing is vulnerable to dirt, finger impressions and is rather difficult to clean as well.

The Display

One of the major differences between the two tablets is the display. The XOOM is built with 10.1” LCD display with the resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels versus the 9.7” IPS display of the iPad 2 having the resolution 1024 x 768 pixels. And the oleo phobic coating on the iPad 2’s display makes it very easy to clean versus the XOOM.

The audio

Since the iPad 2 carries over the same single speaker, it’s nice to see that the XOOM employs two speakers, left and right, which enables it to deliver stereo sound.

The volume rocker of the iPad 2 is exponentially better than the tiny and rather stiff felling volume buttons with the XOOM.

The Camera

Both have one front faced camera for easy video chat. With the iPad2 it’s a VGA camera while on Motorola XOOM  its higher 2MP camera and also both have rear one with iPad2 having  720 / 30p video  and the Motorola XOOM with 5 megapixel AF with dual-LED flash, 720 / 30p video.

The connectivity Ports

The preference is for the Motorola XOOM just because it equips in a traditional way with different ports like MicroUSB port for data connection, for power connection you got a proprietary jack, a micro HDMI port so you connect your HDTV to it and also MicroSD port to expand the storage capacity of the Tablet, whereas in iPad 2 it utilizes only one dirty connectivity port for all your accessories.

The operating system

The Motorola XOOM installed within the Android 3.0 Honeycomb responding little bit slower than the iOS4.3 of iPad2 but the XOOM is preferred much here because it gives you plenty of personalization aspects compared to iPad2 with restricted personalization. Also the Motorola XOOM comes with built in Flash which you cannot find in the iPad2.

The battery

The iPad2 gives you a better battery backup with 25Wh compared to the XOOM with 6,500mAh

The price

Motorola XOOM is priced with tag of $800 (Wi-fi only version is available on $499 now) with free upgradation to 4G connectivity the iPad2 comes in different versions to choose starting from $499 till $729.

Now this is your part to fill. I managed to keep everything about these 2 Tablets in front of you. You decide the conclusion and post it on the comments. I prefer Android OS instead of iOS. So, my choice will be any of Android Tablet. What is yours? Stay tuned on The Geeks Club for more Gadgets reviews.

Motorola Droid introduces new phone Motorola Droid 3 which builds quality and feels extremely well built. The phone is heavier than either the Droid or the Droid 2. The top sliding is made up of still and the sliding mechanism is quite smooth. The Droid 3 stands slightly taller than its forbears, though it’s not much thicker than the original Droid.

The additional features which introduced in the Motorola Droid 3 are QWERTY keypad. This is a vast improvement in the Droid series. Even though Droid 3 has a 4-inch HD display, images and text did not look any better than they did on the original Droid. Icons are not particularly sharp. And this phone lacks the physical camera button of its predecessors, which stuck the touch screen button to take the photos.

The Droid ships the latest version of Gingerbread. It runs the same version of MotoBlur. The Droid 3 comes with a considerable number of bloatware apps preinstalled. The Droid 3 packs a 1GHz dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP processor that makes the phone feel speedy when browsing through menus or scrolling through the home screens. Games ran smoothly, and the phone was quite responsive when tapping around the screen. Unlike the upcoming Droid, the Droid 3 lack LTE support, this can be a problem for the battery life of the phone.

The Droid 3 camera is of 8-megapixel with LED flash. The Droid 3 can shoot 1080p video, but videos also suffered from the blue coloring that plagued photos. The 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera has better white balance than the rear-facing one, but none of the preinstalled software on the phone took advantage of it.

This Droid 3 had no video calling apps, and the stock Google Talk app did not support video chatting. The Droid 3 comes with an HDMI-out port so you can share your photos and videos with everyone on a larger HDTV. The Droid 3 uses the standard bare-bones Android audio player app, and music playback is average.

Motorola Droid 3 is a bit disappointment to the user even though it has good features in it. Motorola pretty much missed the boat with the DROID 3. The device is just too big and heavy. Still, a lack of 4G LTE means this handset isn’t future proofed, and a two-year contract will keep you off of Verizon’s next-gen network for the foreseeable future. It’s a shame 4G is missing here. Hardware like that should be a lot snappier than the other less capable devices, but yet it isn’t.

The screen lacks sharpness, the call quality is subpar, and the phone has reception problems. The keyboard is great, but even that cannot save a phone that has so many other issues and quirks. But the company put in a fast processor, a high-resolution display, and a great keyboard and it even loaded the phone with Gingerbread. But when it came time to deliver, it really dropped the ball.

I will give 7 points out of 10. What is your opinion on Motorola Droid 3?

There is no easy way for comparing gadgets. The comparision is done on the basis of features of the machine – that is, it  starts with price and continues with screen type, processor speed, memory on-board, RAM, camera and then ultimately moving on to other features which set a particular phone apart.

All phones are designed with necessary features which make a user comfortable operating it. But the comparison is to put out some facts and see how they fare against it. Here I have come out with a  comparison between Motorola Charm Vs HTC Wildfire Smartphones.

Comparison between Motorola Charm and HTC Wildfire:

Price: The price of Motorola Charm is low when compared to HTC Wildfire. That is Motorola Charm is priced at $183.25 and that of HTC Wildfire costs $228.53.

Display feature: Motorola Charm comes with display size of 2.8 inches, TFT capacitive touchscreen, 256K colors with 320 x 240 pixels of and with screen resolution and that of HTC Wildfire comes with display size of 3.2 inches, TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors and with screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

RAM and Memory: Motorola Charm is designed with internal memory of 512 MB storage, 512MB RAM and that of HTC Wildfire is designed with internal memory of 384 MB RAM,512 MB ROM and both can read microSD up to 32GB.

Battery life: HTC Wildfire provides talk time Up To 7 Hours 20 Minutes and standby time is Up To 480 Hours whereas Motorola Charm provides talk time Up To 6 Hours 45 Minutes and standby time is Up To 267 Hours.

Both are single SIM 3G phones with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio, music player, video player and video recorder. Motorola Charm has much faster Wi-Fi, Higher PPI screen. And it is thinner, slightly smaller and slightly lighter phone thus it’s considered as CHARM. In other hand HTC Wildfire has significantly more standby time, higher resolution camera, more talk time, faster max data speeds, slightly newer Bluetooth support and slightly larger screen thus it’s known to be a Wildfire.

But in general both support multi-touch, have assisted GPS, have Touch sensitive screens, many apps available at their app store, Works with many headphones, long talk time, can multi-task and generally both have Lower quality display of text, images and video.

I am going for HTC Wildfire. Which one of these awesome Smartphones you want to go for? Do share in the comments field below.
