If the latest spotted images of an upcoming flip phone from Samsung are to be believed, the era of 2000’s will surely come back with the same flip phone craze that swept over the masses with the likes of Moto Razr. The Smartphone, which was spotted earlier with the name Galaxy Folder, will be dubbed as Galaxy Golden, possibly symbolizing the golden era of the last decade. The images and drawings give us a good look at the prototype and even reveal some specifications.

According to a report by Korean site, Samsung Galaxy Golden will pack a 3.7 inch WVGA Super Amoled display with 480×800 resolution and a second display of unknown resolution that replaces the traditional keyboard. According to other rumors, the clamshell Smartphone will pack a 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 2 GB of RAM and will come with impressive connectivity options including NFC, Bluetooth and LTE support. The Smartphone will also reportedly run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Samsung Galaxy Golden

According to the above report, the Smartphone will be released around mid-August on KT and SK Telecom in South Korea with model numbers SHV-E700K and SHV-E700S respectively. Galaxy Golden is not expected to be released outside of South Korea, but it is expected that the return of the form factor will definitely inspire all the major OEMs and Samsung itself to release it to the global market.

The form factor might look weird for now, but remembering the golden times, it will find its audience. The specifications of the phone are definitely impressive for its form factor. The references of the phone were also discovered in a Samsung manual.

To refresh your memory, this is not the first time that Samsung has released an Android flip phone. Back in December 2011, Samsung released SCH-W999 flip phone with a similar numeric keypad in the Chinese market. The phone didn’t get many takers and thus the rage could not spread even in China. The difference this time is the impressive looks and decent specifications that could actually impart some smartness into a flip phone and could result in the birth of a new kind of Smartphone- a flip one.

Samsung is expected to take the wraps off its much hyped and highly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 on the 4th of September at IFA, Berlin. The new rumors add that Samsung might also announce their Galaxy Gear Smartwatch at the same event. According to the report by Patently Apple, Samsung looks to reveal its Smart Watch before the Apple’s September press release event for its new devices.

Patently Apple said in the post:

While it’s likely to be another cheesy product, the goal of course is to simply beat Apple to market with a smart watch so that Apple will look like a follower rather than a leader when and if they release such a product in the future. Yet Samsung mistakenly equates beating Apple to market with something and actually delivering real innovation.

Nothing else is known about the Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Smart watch, but it is predicted to be just another device that could perform tasks in conjunction with Samsung’s Galaxy tablets and Smartphones. Nobody should expect anything miraculous here but just a regular Smartwatch. Many companies have confirmed that they are making their own Smartwatches including Samsung, but we have failed to see one in existence by any major OEM except Sony, which is preparing for its third generation Smartwatch.

South Korean Economy - Presidential Election Campaign Issue

Here is what Steffan K Persson, Head of Companion Products at Sony Mobile Communications has to say about the September scheduled launch of their 3rd Generation Sony Smartwatch:

Sony is the proud leader in the Smartwatch market since introducing our first Bluetooth watch in 2007. Competitors are only now launching first generation devices, while we are already launching a 3rd generation device with all the insight gained from over half a million customers combined with Sony’s wealth of technology expertise to create the best ever Smartwatch experience.

Not only Android Smartwatches, but also iOS based Apple iWatch and Windows Phone powered SurfaceWatch is rumored to be in development. Looking at this upcoming Smartwatch market which is going to heat up pretty soon with manufacturers racing against the clock to beat one another to the launch of their own Smartwatch, it will take much more by Samsung than to just beat Apple’s iWatch. Samsung should learn from Pebble which has defied the norm by kicking its own Smartwatch via crowd funding and is already one of the best selling Smartwatch now.

Sundar Pichai, the head of Android and Chrome project at Google, confirmed to the Wall Street Journal reporter Amir Efrati. The confirmation came when he spoke to Sundar Pichai at Google’s press event for the release of Android 4.3 and new Nexus 7 tablet, he revealed on his twitter account. The second generation Nexus 10 tablet will be made by Samsung and is expected to join the new Nexus 7 tablet revealed by Google two days ago in the 2nd Generation of Nexus tablets by Google.

The first Nexus 10 tablet was also made by Samsung. The upcoming specifications of this tablet were not revealed obviously, but Pichai did tell him that we can expect to learn more about the tablet in the near future. It is granted that Samsung will definitely upgrade the specifications, but it isn’t likely that the screen resolution will feature among the upgrades. We expect Samsung to upgrade the processor to its new Exynos 5 Octo core chip or Google might force Samsung to choose Snapdragon 600 or 800 over it. Other than the expected lighter and thinner version, we also expect Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the next Nexus 10.

To remind you, the first generation Nexus 10 tablet features a 10 inch 2560x1600p display lined with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for strength. The tablet packs a 1.7 GHz dual core Samsung Exynos 5250 processor with the Mali-T604 GPU. 2 GB RAM guarantees smooth operation throughout and 16 or 32 GB storage options make sure users get the flexibility of storage they require as per their need.

The current Nexus 10 tablet also have a 5 MP rear camera with LED flashlight and autofocus, and it can record Full HD video. It also features a 1.9 MP front facing camera for video calls. The tablet is 8.9 mm thick and Google has made sure even with this tablet that it provides its Nexus devices without any additional Micro SD card slot. Samsung Nexus 10 being a Nexus device provides the user with a stock vanilla Android Nexus experience without any custom UI on top.

Samsung has an upcoming IFA event in September where it is expected to unveil Galaxy Note 3, the successor to the highly successful Galaxy Note 2 phablet. It is unlikely that Nexus 10 will be unveiled at the event since it is a collaboration between Google and Samsung and likely to get a separate event by Google in the near future. Seeing the aptly upgraded new Nexus 7 tablet by Asus, users will have high expectations from Samsung for the refreshed Nexus 10. Keeping the mind the Samsung’s track record, it will not disappoint the users and is worth the wait.

We have received manifold rumors and speculations for Galaxy Note 3 in the past, but this time independent sources say that the phablet will come on September 4 with a 5.7 inch screen size. The Korea Herald says in a report that according to “industry officials,” the Galaxy Note 3 will be announced at IFA 2013 on September 4 and will feature a 5.7 inch display.

Source: iTechWhiz

The IFA event for the announcement of the next generation Galaxy Note device was confirmed since the first rumor came out, but the screen size was previously predicted to be 5.99 inches. Recently our reliable leakster @evleaks also confirmed the screen size of 5.7 inches which led us to believe that indeed the 3rd generation Note Smartphone will pack a 0.2 inch increase over Galaxy Note 2, assuming that Samsung wants to keep augmenting 0.2 inches with every new Note Smartphone.

The report also sheds light on the faster connectivity with LTE-A support to upcoming Samsung and Apple products, including the Galaxy Note 3. Previously many other rumors have suggested that Galaxy Note 3 is expected to come in two variants – one with LCD display and other with Super Amoled Full HD Display. Only 10% of the LCD displays would be available in certain markets, the rest would be Super Amoled.

Many other rumors in a recent past have leaked the snapshots of the device and its 13 MP camera. This has added to the confusion and we long for some reliable and/or official information. Another report also suggested that it will pack 3 GB of RAM and will be among the first Smartphones to come with 3 GB RAM, the other one being LG Optimus G2.

Galaxy Note 3 Concept

To recap the complete list of expected specifications, Galaxy Note 3 is expected to come with 2.3 GHz Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3 GB of RAM. It will feature a 5.7 inch Full HD display with 13 MP camera slapped on its back. It is obviously expected to come with S Pen, which is a customized pressure sensitive stylus for Samsung Galaxy Note devices, which can be used to take notes and annotate documents. As reported previously, it is likely to come with same plastic body and an inflexible display, unlike previous rumors.

Taiwanese OEM HTC has revealed that profits during its April-June quarter plunged to 83 percent Year on Year (YoY), even though it is some improvement over its Q1 performance. Unaudited net profits came in at Tw$1. 25 billion ($41.67 million), compared with Tw$7. 4 billion a year ago but up sharply from the Tw$85 million in the first quarter.

The revenue plummeted 22 percent YoY but increased 65 percent from the previous quarter. This is probably because the Android Smartphone manufacturer tried to turn things around in the second quarter with its new HTC One premium Android Smartphone that got good reviews and consumer preference owing to its looks, build quality and the amplified front facing speakers. CEO Peter Chou also gave credit to HTC One for the same.

In retrospect, Samsung’s preliminary figures for the second quarter reported a profit of 9.5 trillion won (around $8.3 billion) from 57 trillion won ($49.9 billion) revenue. Despite the highest ever profit by Samsung, investors aren’t happy. Since investors look at positive and new sources of income and when it is compared with the profit graph of Apple, one can see why investors are unhappy.

Samsung Mobile

The profits are shorter by 6.4% than the expectations, a margin of $690 million dollars. Even after having sold 20 million Galaxy S4 Smartphone units, making it the fastest ever selling Android phone in the history and capturing major Smartphone market around the world, Samsung’s profits fall relatively shorter than that of Apple time and again. The profit is bound to rise in the next quarter as Samsung released new Galaxy S4 variants that will see wider acceptance rate over global markets.

Research firm IDC confirmed that Samsung holds a 30.3 percent stake in the global Smartphone market while HTC has only 4.6 percent left, which is a sharp and worrying decline from its 8.8 percent share last year. Apple holds about 19.1 percent share while the rest are shared by Sony, LG and other local Asian manufacturers.

Samsung CEO JK Shin confirmed that the Android manufacturer is indeed going to release a mirror-less Android powered camera on June 20 event in London. He even clarified that Galaxy S4 sales are going well, and investors should not worry. He said this in order to rebuke the JP Morgan report stating that Samsung faced a setback in Galaxy S4 sales. A day after the confirmation, press shots and live images of the camera leaked online.

Galaxy NZ

According to the press shots, Samsung Galaxy NX EK-GN120 will come with a 20.3 MP APS-C sensor and will be powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. It will support an interchangeable lens and will support ISO 100 – 25,600 and Full HD video capture. As per the UAProf file, it will come with a qHD display slapped on its back.

Galaxy NZ front

The camera looks big and humongous in the press shots leaked and is certainly a ‘big’ brother to the original Galaxy Camera. It is not clear whether the naming will stick with Galaxy NX or will be changed to Galaxy Camera 2 in order to complete the Galaxy Camera lineup. The camera is certainly closer to DSLR in size with large touch screen display powered by Android slapped on its back.

According to other rumors, Galaxy NX will be powered by a Samsung’s Exynos quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 8/16 GB of internal storage. As can be seen from the press shot as well, it will come with three changeable NX lens (18-55 OIS, 18-200 OIS and 85-?).

Galaxy NZ lens

As can be spotted in the press release, it will also come with expected premium DSLR hardware controls such as a shutter release, pop-up flash release, top-mounted dial, lens release for compatible lens and a dedicated video capture button. The openings for lanyard connection point and speakerphone can also be spotted. The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is having some issues with the new TouchWiz interface because of which it has been delayed. Samsung originally gave hints that it would release the much awaited Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of May or starting of June. The update is expected to bring latest features and announcements of the Android 4.2.2 by Google and TouchWiz specific enhancements from the Galaxy S4.

Samsung Mobile

Samsung has not officially announced the delay for the same, but the same is being confirmed by SamMobile on its Twitter handle. TouchWiz is Samsung’s customized user interface which is present ontop of vanilla Android to provide uniform appearance and features across all its Galaxy devices. Last month, Samsung announced with Google that it will be releasing its flagship Android Smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4 with vanilla stock Android by Google called the Galaxy S4 Google Edition. This is the only product so far by Samsung which will be devoid of its signature TouchWiz interface.

The exact reason for the delay due to TouchWiz is not known but according to rumors there are some bugs with the TouchWiz related upgrade which are causing performance related issues in the devices which forced Samsung to delay the upgrade till the issues are resolved. Seeing the command of Samsung over its software, we expect the issue to be resolved soon and the upgrade made available in the coming few weeks.

GNote 2 vs Galaxy s3

Samsung is one of the few Android OEMs that has a good track record of providing timely Android upgrades so we can excuse this one delay incident by Samsung. The upgrade is expected to bring features like Smart Pause/Scroll, S Translator, Group Play, Dual Camera and many more signature features of its flagship Galaxy S4 to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3. Features like S Health and Watch On will be skipped due to the absence of specific hardware on these devices. Galaxy Note 2 is expected to get Finger AirView/ Gestures as well.

The upgrade will be available Over The Air (OTA) without any need to connect to PC or link to Kies software. You will be notified in the notification panel when the upgrade will be available depending upon your region, carrier and availability in your country. To check manually for available upgrades, go to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update when you are connected to Wi-Fi. Avoid updating on Data connection as the updates vary from 20MB to 500 MB so it might incur you huge data charges if you’re on a limited data plan.
