The successor of Galaxy Note 2 is slated for the official release in the second half of the year, possibly in IFA 2013 but that does not stop the rumor mill from running. GSMInsider has spotted Galaxy Note III GT-N7200 in the AnTuTu benchmarks running Android 4.3, which is yet to be announced by Google. The model number N7200 follows the pattern of N7000 Galaxy Note and N7100 Galaxy Note II. According to the benchmark leak, it tops the chart with a processor clocked at 1.6 GHz, without any confirmation of its make or cores.

According to another rumor by SamMobile, Samsung won’t use “renewed metal design” for Galaxy Note 3 which was rumored earlier. It won’t pack a flexible display either. According to the report, making a lot of Galaxy Note 3 metal cases won’t be possible for Samsung and hence it will go with Galaxy S4 inspired design and build materials. Nothing is confirmed for now so take this with a pinch of salt.

The report also adds that the phone will be revealed in the third quarter, around IFA 2013. This is also evident from many other rumors and news sources. The report further explains that Samsung does not want to delay the launch by going with metal Galaxy Note 3 having flexible display, so it has preferred to go with the plastic Galaxy Note 3 to meet the launch deadline.

In other news by PhoneArena, a Samsung official has already confirmed the Galaxy Note III. They got confirmation from Samsung chief executive JK Shin that “Samsung will debut Note III with a 5.9-inch OLED screen at IFA in Germany in September.” Shin also confirmed that Galaxy Note III won’t feature a flexible screen. Since Samsung is not known to give surprises at their launch meetings, hence we can expect it to be the real deal.

In related news, Samsung has all its fingers dipped in honey as it announced having sold 10 million units of its flagship Galaxy S4 Smartphone in less than a month. It is the record for the fastest selling Android Smartphone to date. Aside from Black and White, Samsung announced it will also be releasing four more colors for its Galaxy S4 Smartphone – Blue Arctic, Red Aurora, Purple Mirage and Brown Autumn. UK retailer Clove has unveiled the pricing and availability details of ‘hugely’ sized Smartphone Galaxy Mega 6.3 in UK. It will be available in July for £460 (or $700 equivalent) including VAT or £384 excluding VAT. The Mega series Smartphone was officially announced by Samsung in April. A previous leak by SamMobile put Galaxy Mega 5.8 sale date in week 20 (May 13-19) and Galaxy Mega 6.3 sale date in week 25 (June 17-23). Since week 20 is already over, we doubt if that leak will bear any more importance.

Galaxy Mega

Galaxy Mega 6.3 is powered by 1.7 GHz dual core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM and respectable 3200 mAh battery. It packs a 6.3 inch 720p HD display and comes with 8 MP rear camera, LTE, NFC, IR blaster and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It is considerably thin at 7.9 mm and comparatively lighter at 199g for its size. The exact global release date is not yet known but it is due to become known in the upcoming days as its availability draws near. GSMArena got hold on the phone and gave it a detailed preview look.

Speaking of tablet sized Smartphones, the pricing detail of upcoming Samsung tablet Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 was accidentally revealed by retailer Adorama but was pulled down later on. As per the listing, the tablet will be available for US$199 in the US.

SamMobile has discovered a test Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy S3 which will be bringing all the “amazing and unique” features of Galaxy S4 to its predecessor. The new firmware carries the build number I9300XXUFME3. It includes a new lock screen with its effects and widgets, Daydream support, better screen modes, revamped Settings UI, enhanced notifications and new S Voice feature of the Galaxy S4.

Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 leak

The update is a test update which means that the final release might see even more features and refinements. Air View and Remote features along with the S Health and Barometer and Temperature sensor dependent features of Galaxy S4 won’t be there because these are hardware dependent. The final official build of Android 4.2.2 from Samsung for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 is expected to roll out in June.

Here is a list of main changes found in the test update Android 4.2.2 having Build ID JDQ39:

  • New S4 lockscreen: Multiple Widgets, two unlock effects (Ripple and Light), improved Ripple effect, ability to change clock size and set a personal message
  • New screen modes from S4: Adapt Display and Professional Photo
  • Daydream, Driving mode, Actionable notifications and new additions in the Notification Center
  • Completely revamped settings UI with tabbed interface like S4
  • Addition of Voice controls (Galaxy S4 feature) – which lets you control various parts of the phone using voice commands.
  • Gallery modes have white background
  • Full screen Samsung apps, new S Voice and a new smart switch widget

You can read the complete report along with all the pictures and flashing instructions here on SamMobile. Now that the test build for Galaxy S3 is out, we expect a test build for Note 2 pretty soon. It will be an even more interesting leak or official build, whatever comes out first, because it will not only bring the features included in this build but is also expected to bring Air View with hand as Note 2 has the hardware to support that. Till then, the owners of Galaxy S3 can play with this new build at their own risk.

The website technodify have revealed pictures of Galaxy S4 Mini, which is inspired by Samsung Galaxy S4 design. The report also added that it will start retailing from July but will be launched by this month’s end. Early rumors also added that it will come in four variants – a quad core single SIM variant, a dual core dual SIM variant, an LTE variant and a China-specific variant. There are no sources to confirm this news so we suggest you take them with a grain of salt.

Galaxy S4 Mini pictures leaked

In another launch date leak by SamMobile, they have revealed target dates for rumored Samsung S4 family Smartphones including the mini variant Galaxy S4 Mini, the rugged variant Galaxy S4 Activ and the camera-centric variant Galaxy S4 Zoom and the officially announced Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 for Europe specific launches.

The launch date of Galaxy S4 Mini in both black and white colors is set in the week starting July 15 which is in agreement with the above leak from technodify. The Metallic Orange colored rugged Smartphone Galaxy S4 Activ is also expected to be released in the same week.

The camera focused Galaxy S4 Zoom, whose existence was revealed a few days back by SamMobile and was further rumored in a sample photo leak, is expected to launch between June 3 and June 9 in Black color and June 17 to June 23 in the white color.

Galaxy Mega

The officially announced Galaxy Mega 5.8 will be released for sale in week 20 (May 13-19) for the white color version and in week 25 (June 17-23) for the black version. The big brother Galaxy Mega 6.3 will launch in the black color in the week starting from May 6th and in the white color in the week starting on May 20.

There is no official way to confirm all these rumors and leaks, but SamMobile has been quite reliable in the past. Nevertheless, we suggest you to take these with a pinch of salt unless Samsung launches the Smartphones and their release dates officially or some more information emerges from reliable sources. Digitimes, which has been unreliable in the past, is reporting that HTC, LG and Samsung will introduce their new flagship Smartphones in the second part of the year, Q3 to be precise. This is nothing unknown as it is being claimed by many other rumors as well, so Digitimes might just hit the target once in a while. All the major Smartphone manufacturers are looking to compete with the next Apple iPhone, which is expected to show its face around the same time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The specifications quoted in the report by Digitimes are pretty close to the rumors so far. The report says that it will have a 5.99 inch Amoled Full HD display with Exynos 5 Octa core CPU, which is the same processor powering the international variant of Galaxy S4. It will succeed the king of phablets Galaxy Note 2.

HTC Butterfly 2

It is expected to come with a large size Full HD display with additional features borrowed from HTC One such as BlinkFeed, UltraPixel camera and BoomSound speakers. According to other rumors, the device is expected to launch in the later part of the year and was first leaked in an OTA test some time ago. The phone will succeed the highly successful HTC Butterfly.

LG Optimus G2

The successor to its current flagship LG Optimus G will come with a 5 inch Full HD display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad core processor. The phone was previously leaked in images and in benchmarks and Bluetooth SIG, although it was highly doubtful so we suggest you take that leak with a grain of salt.

The Digitimes report didn’t mention anything else and have kept the report very diplomatic, thus increasing its chances of getting a hit this time. Other rumors reveal some details about the availability of these handsets. Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be unveiled in Berlin at IFA 2013. LG is having an event in Macau on May 30th, so we can expect Optimus G2 to either come early via that event or some time later in this year. HTC gets the mystery benefit here as no rumors are currently available regarding any of its upcoming events.

2013 is the year of Mobile Operating Systems. It marks the ascent of Android and iOS to own a majority of the market share and also holds the record for the announcement of a large number of mobile OS Smartphone launches including Ubuntu OS, Firefox OS and Sailfish OS. How could Tizen remain behind them? The Greek Tizen community has revealed that Samsung has been working on two new Smartphones which will be running Tizen OS and may launch by the later part of the year.

Tizen

The model numbers are GT-I8800, codenamed Melius and the GT-I8805, codenamed Redwood. The Smartphones seems to run Tizen version 2.1, called Magnolia. The Redwood is believed to be a 4G ready phone with LTE chip and Melius will have 3G capability only. The two Tizen brothers are believed to hit the shelves in September. They are expected to hit US markets first, before going global.

The Linux based OS Tizen is jointly developed by 12 companies including Samsung and Intel and will offer the alternative to Android. Currently the Tizen OS is under the care of Linux Foundation and will offer to be more open-source in comparison to its rivals. The world’s largest Android Smartphone manufacturer Samsung is looking to reduce its dependency on Android, especially when Google raised concerns about being a future competitor when it acquired Motorola.

An official of Tizen Association, Chase Perrin added that the first phones will have a sufficient number of applications. He said, “Android, among other mobile operating systems, is tightly controlled. As an open-source software platform, Tizen is designed to make it easy to develop for a range of devices.”

Tizen screenshots

Another unconfirmed rumor adds that Samsung will launch two products at first, one in the high-end price bracket and another in the mid-end price bracket. It is clear that if that happens Redwood will be a high-end phone and Melius will be a mid-range phone. Samsung showed off its prototype device running Tizen at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Other rumors suggest that Japan’s biggest telecom company NTT Docomo will have the honors of launching first Tizen device. The official launch from Samsung will remove all the doubts.

We positively hope that Tizen, which can run all the apps currently available on Google Play Store owing to its Application Compatibility Layer (ACL), will emerge to be a worthy alternative to Android and will open more options for developers and manufacturers alike. According to the latest rumors by SamMobile, Samsung is working on a camera phone called the Galaxy S4 Zoom. SamMobile says the camera will be a huge 16 MP one which is the same no of pixels that the Galaxy Camera has, which Samsung introduced last year at IFA 2012. This will be a phone primarily meaning that even though the camera might have same no of pixels, it might not be as competent and feature-rich as its digital camera offerings.

Others rumored specifications include a downgraded 4.3 inch qHD Super Amoled screen running on a dual-core or a quad-core processor of unknown make. The phone will be powered by Android Jelly Bean with Touch Wiz Nature UX on top and will have a 8 GB internal memory along with a micro SD card memory expansion slot supporting up to 64 GB. The connectivity features thrown in includes Bluetooth 4.0 LE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and A-GPS. The RAM isn’t yet final.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

The rumors further add that the phone will be available before the Summer is over and SamMobile expects June/July is the time it will be out. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is codenamed SM-C1010 which means the model number can change before the official launch. It will initially come in two plain colors – Black and White.

There are no more details as to what price point it will come but since it seems to be less powerful than Galaxy S4 flagship Smartphone, we hope it is priced below or just equal to Galaxy S4 owing to its camera-centric capabilities. Previously, there were rumors about Samsung working on a rugged version of Galaxy S4 as well. It seems that Samsung has some strategy in place where they go on launching other products having an identical name of the flagship so as to increase their recognizability among the consumers. This is quite apparent from names Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 rugged and now Galaxy S4 Zoom.

  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 8 GB internal storage with micro SD card expansion up to 64 GB

  • Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top

Samsung Galaxy Core

One con of the phone is that it will support video recording and playback up to 480p@30fps (frames per second) only. The dual SIM version will go on the shelves beginning May and strangely the single SIM will be available by July. The region wise launch schedule is not yet released by Samsung but hopefully Asia and Europe might get it first as they seem to be the target market. No pricing details were made available in the press release by Samsung.

“Offering innovative mobile solutions to enhance the user experience, the GALAXY Core’s smart features provide advanced tools that continue to set the GALAXY series apart. Utilizing human interactions including voice, movement, and optical commands, the GALAXY Core has a wide array of smart features that include Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Motion UI and S Voice,” Samsung added in the official release.

A previous leak, in which most of the specifications turned out to be true except the RAM, added that it is expected to launch in Russia and China in mid-May for 320 Euros. We suggest you take this bit with a pinch of salt until Samsung officiates the information. The digital space is polluted by the noise made by Galaxy Note 3 rumors and an image from MyDrivers.com brings a leaked picture of the same. The image, which has a phablet put alongside Galaxy Note 2, contradicts previous rumors that Samsung will introduce a new aluminium-based design for its phablet flagship rumored to be unveiled on IFA 2013.

The leaked images is probably a fake since it bears GT-i9500 as the model number, which is the model number of international Galaxy S4. We have seen that the naming of Galaxy Note series always begins with the letter N. Further, there is no Samsung logo at the top or bottom and the gap between the physical home button and the screen is quite large.

Galaxy Note 2 vs Galaxy Note 3 unconfirmed

In another leak from SamMobile, Samsung is testing three different designs of Galaxy Note 3 versions: one that follows the design of Galaxy S4, one that features “a completely different design” and one that has a flexible display. Rumors have already come which alleges that the handset would feature a flexible OLED display. There were other allegations pointing at Samsung shifting from plastic to metal, a concern aroused in Samsung from HTC One build quality.

The same report from SamMobile further adds that the above leaked picture was not a Galaxy Note 3 prototype but a ZOPO ZP950 phone in the making. In another rumor, a new set of specifications is rumored for Galaxy Note 3 which includes a 3 GB RAM.

Here is the list of specifications from the leak:

  • 5.99 inch Full HD Super Amoled display
  • Exynos 5410 Octa core processor with 2.0 GHz quad core A15 CPU and 1.7 GHz quad core A7 CPU
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 32 GB internal storage
  • Micro SD card support
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Different reports have already falsified the reports of a metal design Galaxy Note 3 and have acknowledged delay of the flexible OLED displays from Samsung. Speaking of flexible OLED displays, LG has also announced its plans to launch a flexible OLED display by the end of the year.

Among so many different rumors popping up every now and then, it will be difficult to say what is going to be the official specifications, design and looks of the phablet but we will certainly not bet a single penny on the leaked image above. Keep following our blog for much such rumors and to keep you updated.
