Overview

Canva combines a template and media library with design, editing, collaboration and publishing tools. The Free plan includes more than 1.6 million templates and 4.7 million photos, videos, graphics and audio items, so it offers a wide starting point for varied visual work without an initial subscription. The breadth is useful when projects cross formats; readers seeking a narrower workflow may prefer a specialist tool.

AI tools include Magic Layers, Magic Eraser, Background Remover, Magic Write and AI image generation. Their usage draws from a shared monthly allowance, and higher-tier tools consume more of it. Canva also offers an Apps Marketplace, Apps SDK access, a REST API for custom apps and ad-platform publishing. Offline mode is listed for Free, Pro Lite, Pro and Business.

Key features

Presentations, slideshows, pitch decks and multimedia presentations sit alongside social, video, print, photo, website and PDF work. Templates, illustration tools, custom dimensions, custom fonts, transparent exports, print-ready exports and vector export broaden the range of finished assets. Exports include PDF, JPG, PNG, SVG and PPT.

Collaboration and brand controls become more substantial on higher plans. Business adds team administration, approvals, permissions and advanced brand controls; Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM, audit logs, admin controls and custom apps and integrations. The security comparison includes MFA, ISO 27001 certification and compliance, and SOC 2 Type II. Support options span a Help Assistant, tickets, live chat, elevated priority and dedicated case management.

Pricing

Canva uses a freemium model and offers a 30-day trial. The Free plan is 0.00 USD per free, billed ₹ 0 /year for one person, and provides the core editor, templates and content, basic collaboration and exports. Its limits are concrete: one Brand Kit with three colours, 5GB storage and up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses. Those caps make it a sensible way to start, but a tight fit for a growing shared library or frequent AI work.

Pro has custom pricing and is for one user. It raises the ceiling to 3.6M+ templates, five Brand Kits, 100GB cloud storage and 10 times more AI than Canva Free. It is the individual upgrade when the Free storage, branding or AI allowance becomes restrictive, though the single-user plan does not provide Business's team administration.

Business has custom pricing and is aimed at teams: it includes collaboration and administration, 100 Brand Kits, approvals, higher AI access, 500GB cloud storage and advanced brand controls. Business trial users can invite team members and are not billed during the trial period. Enterprise is billed Contact sales and includes 1,000 Brand Kits and 1TB cloud storage, plus SSO, SCIM, audit logs, admin controls and custom apps and integrations. Enterprise has no free trial, though sales can provide a demo.

AI use is pooled across listed tools and resets monthly; more capable tools spend more of that allowance. Eligible nonprofits can receive a free premium subscription for one team of up to 50 users. This is a meaningful route for qualifying organizations, but does not change the regular plan limits for other users.

Platforms

Canva offers free desktop downloads for Windows and Mac, as well as desktop and mobile apps. The listed desktop platforms are macOS and Windows. Canva Offline is listed for Free, Pro Lite, Pro and Business.

Who it's for

Canva is a strong fit for individuals who need one place for common design formats and a sizable template and media library, and for teams that want shared brand assets, approvals and permissions. Free is a credible starting point for lighter use; Business is the more suitable choice when administration and brand governance matter. Look elsewhere if your work needs exceed the Free storage and AI ceilings but a custom-priced upgrade is not a fit.

Pros and cons

Pro: The Free library spans 1.6M+ templates and 4.7M+ media items, giving new users breadth before they pay.
Pro: A wide range of formats and exports, including SVG and PPT, makes Canva useful across presentation, print and digital projects.
Pro: Business and Enterprise add progressively stronger team, brand and administration controls.
Con: Free is capped at 5GB storage, one three-colour Brand Kit and up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses, which may constrain sustained work.
Con: Pro and Business have custom pricing, so readers cannot compare their listed prices directly with the Free plan.
Con: AI tools share a monthly pool, and higher-tier tools consume more; frequent use can make the allowance harder to stretch.

Alternatives

Choose FotoJet if its free online collage maker and basic editing tools better match a simpler editing workflow. PosterMyWall is worth considering for free downloads, a content planner and publishing to one social account. Choose Easil if its free plan's 2,500+ templates suit your needs.

PublishMedia is a more limited fit when the priority is opening and viewing Publisher or Office files for free; its Free Starter plan does not allow editing or export and stores files for seven days. Visme is an alternative for presentation work with a Basic plan capped at 500MB storage and 50 slides or pages per project. Adobe Express Video offers a free video-oriented option with 155,000+ templates, 25 generative credits per month and 5GB storage.

Design.com is an option when free AI logo generation, brand-kit tools and vector downloads are the priority. Desygner offers a free plan for up to three users, with 100 projects, 20 AI credits per month and 5GB storage. Verdict

Canva is a strong choice for individuals and teams that want one platform for varied visual work, especially when templates and shared brand controls are central. Its breadth and free library are the main reasons to choose it; the Free storage and AI caps and custom-priced paid plans are the main reasons to compare alternatives before building an ongoing team workflow around it.
