Overview

Eramba is governance, risk and compliance software for coordinating risk, controls, policies and compliance activity. It suits GRC teams that need to manage structured work across departments and suppliers. Its breadth and deployment choice are compelling, but organizations that need network-based asset discovery will need another tool.

Use cases span risk and compliance management, data privacy, incident management, awareness programs, automated account reviews and online assessments. Eramba’s team says it began building and sharing the product in 2007. The software is for managing GRC information, not finding network assets: it recommends syncing asset details from a CMDB through its REST API.

Key features

Custom fields, granular access controls, notifications and dynamic status let teams shape records and track work against their own processes. Quantitative analysis, custom risk fields, workflow automation and scheduled risk reporting support recurring risk management rather than static registers. This flexibility suits organizations with defined GRC procedures, but teams should expect to decide how those procedures map into the system.

Eramba’s maker offers more than 70 ready-to-import compliance packages, and organizations can upload a custom framework as a CSV. That gives teams a starting point for common frameworks and a way to accommodate their own, rather than requiring every framework to be built from scratch.

REST APIs and webhooks connect Eramba with other systems. It can receive API requests and send webhooks; examples include creating SIEM incidents and Jira issues. External authentication supports LDAP, SAML and Google OAuth, and LDAP synchronization is documented. Locally authenticated accounts have brute-force protection that blocks further login attempts after incorrect credentials.

GRC team members can manage risks, controls and policies, while other departments and suppliers can contribute review feedback. That division is useful when accountability sits with a central GRC function but evidence or review input comes from elsewhere.

Pricing

Community is free and self-hosted, with unlimited users and data. It has no included support, and upgrades and backups are manual. It is the sensible starting point for organizations able to operate the installation themselves; the trade-off is taking on maintenance and relying on Eramba’s public learning materials and forum rather than plan support.

Enterprise On-Premise starts at €2,500 per year and includes unlimited users and data, all modules and email support. This fits organizations that want to keep deployment on their own infrastructure while paying for support and managed access to the full module set.

Enterprise SaaS starts at €5,000 per year. It includes unlimited users and data, Eramba-hosted service, managed updates and backups, and cloud hosting in Europe or the USA. It costs more than the on-premise Enterprise plan, but shifts hosting operations and routine maintenance to Eramba. SaaS operations include daily backups, with upgrades handled when releases become available.

Both paid plans are priced from their stated annual starting amounts; Community has no user or data cap. The free option is less suitable for organizations that need included support or do not want to manage backups and upgrades.

Platforms

Eramba supports API, Linux, self-hosted and web use. Community and Enterprise on-premise installations are documented for Docker and VMware, with the Docker guide covering Linux host configuration. The deployment choice is practical for organizations that need control over where the system runs, while SaaS provides cloud hosting in Europe or the USA.

Who it's for

Eramba is a strong fit for organizations with a GRC team coordinating risks, controls, policies and compliance work, especially when other departments or suppliers need to contribute reviews. Its framework packages, configurable records and integrations can support varied processes. It is not the right standalone choice for teams whose first requirement is network scanning; they should keep a scanner or CMDB in the asset-discovery workflow and sync relevant information into Eramba.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 70 importable compliance packages plus CSV framework uploads give teams both ready-made and custom starting points.
Pros: Unlimited users and data across Community and the paid plans avoid seat and data caps, including for free self-hosted use.
Pros: API requests, webhooks and external authentication support connection to other systems and existing identity arrangements.
Pros: Enterprise SaaS includes hosting, daily backups and managed updates, while on-premise plans preserve local deployment choice.
Cons: Community includes no support and leaves upgrades and backups to the organization.
Cons: Eramba is not a network scanner, so asset discovery must happen elsewhere, with asset information synced from a CMDB.

Verdict

Choose Eramba if your organization needs a flexible GRC system with broad compliance-framework coverage, configurable risk workflows and a choice between self-hosting and managed SaaS. Community makes it possible to start without a license fee, while Enterprise adds support or managed hosting. Look elsewhere—or pair it with a CMDB and scanner—if discovering network assets is central to the job.
