Overview

MathPad is a math-focused workspace that combines photo solving and tutoring with equation editing, OCR, and document conversion. It is best suited to students, teachers, and others who move between solving exercises and creating or processing math documents. Its breadth is a strength, but credit-based usage makes the cost of frequent solving and longer document jobs worth weighing.

Key features

Solving and tutoring

SnapSolve turns a photo of a problem into an OCR-processed, step-by-step solution and offers CAS verification. That gives users a practical route from a handwritten or printed exercise to an explanation, though each solve costs 2 credits. The AI Tutor is better suited to follow-up learning: it supports interactive guidance, hints, concept explanations, and work verification. Step Checker costs 3 credits per use, and the free plan limits the tutor to three trial messages a day.

Math input and documents

The editor supports LaTeX, AsciiMath, MathML, Typst, and MathJSON, with a live preview. That range is useful for people moving equations between authoring formats, rather than only entering a problem for an answer. OCR recognizes handwritten and printed math and can extract equations alongside text; the converter handles more than 21 formats, including PDF, DOCX, LaTeX, EPUB, and Jupyter notebooks. Document processing costs 1 credit per page, so large conversions can use a monthly allowance quickly.

Office, APIs, and privacy

The Google Workspace add-on works in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms, including equation insertion and quiz export to Forms. The Microsoft Office add-in supports Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on desktop and Office Online. Public APIs are available without signup for LaTeX-to-image rendering and math-format conversion, a useful option for developers with those specific needs.

MathPad says uploaded images and PDFs are processed in real time and not stored, and that user data is not used to train or improve its AI models. It also cites HTTPS/TLS encryption, secure authentication, and database-level access controls. Account data is deleted within 30 days after account deletion; inactive accounts are deleted after two years with 30 days' advance notice.

Pricing

MathPad uses a freemium model, with paid plans from $14.99/mo. The Free plan is free and provides 10 daily credits plus three AI Tutor trial messages per day. It is suitable for occasional use, but the allowance is limited once photo solving, checking, or document work becomes routine.

Basic costs 14.99 USD per month, billed $14.99 /mo. It includes 500 monthly credits, 20 Problem Sets & Quizzes per month, and 100 Document OCR pages per month. This is the entry paid tier for regular use, though its page allowance and credits may constrain heavier document workflows.

Pro costs 39.99 USD per month, billed $39.99 /mo. Its 5000 monthly credits and 1000 Document OCR pages per month make it the stronger fit for frequent solving or substantial document processing; it also includes priority support. Lifetime Membership costs 499.00 USD per once, billed as a one-time payment, and provides lifetime access. The published plan terms do not give this option a credit or OCR quota, so the monthly allowances above are the clearest basis for comparing ongoing usage.

Platforms

MathPad supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, and web, as well as an extension and API. Its broad platform coverage makes it relevant to people working across mobile, desktop, browser, and integrations. Offline mode is also listed.

Who it's for

Choose MathPad if you need more than a camera solver: its mix of guided tutoring, multiple math markup formats, OCR, conversion, and office integrations can serve both individual learners and people preparing math materials. It is less compelling for someone who only wants occasional answers and does not need document tools, since task credits and per-page processing are central to the paid usage limits.

Pros and cons

Pros: Photo solving, interactive tutoring, and work checking cover distinct stages of learning rather than just returning an answer.
Pros: Broad equation-format support, document conversion, OCR, and office add-ins extend the product into math authoring and document workflows.
Pros: Free daily credits and public APIs without signup give casual users and developers a way to use selected capabilities without a paid plan.
Cons: SnapSolve and Step Checker consume credits per task, while document processing consumes credits per page; intensive use can make allowances a limiting factor.
Cons: Free access includes only three tutor trial messages per day, so it is not a substitute for sustained tutoring.

Alternatives

Browse Math Solver Apps for a wider set of solver choices. Mathos AI is a freemium option with a free trial, limited MathosPro, six video minutes a day, limited image input, flashcards and quizzes, and auto-drawn graphs; consider it if those video and study tools are the priority.

Mathos AI (MathGPTPro) offers a freemium plan with limited video generation and image input, flashcards and quizzes, and auto-drawn graphs; it may suit users focused on those features. Photomath has a free Android and iOS plan with step-by-step explanations, while custom visual aids and extra how-and-why tips are excluded; pick it if a mobile-first solver is the main need.

CameraMath offers free online photo, screenshot, handwritten, text, and calculator inputs with step-by-step solutions, making it a focused alternative for varied input types. AI-Math is a web-only option whose free plan allows 10 questions per day, basic problem types, and step-by-step solutions; it may fit users who want a capped question-based solver.

MalMath is another freemium option. AI Mathbot is another freemium option. Mathway offers free access to its solver and calculators, with step-by-step solutions and an optional subscription; consider it if solver and calculator access is the priority.

Verdict

MathPad is the strongest fit for learners and educators who want solving, tutoring, equation editing, and document handling in one workspace. Its main advantage is that the workflow extends from a photographed problem to formatted math and office documents; its main drawback is that credits and page quotas shape how much work each plan can absorb. If you need only a straightforward solver, a focused alternative may be a better match.
