Overview

Tango captures browser and desktop processes and turns them into walkthroughs and browser agents. It is best suited to teams documenting repeatable work in web applications and guiding colleagues through it. Its broad sharing options and browser-based automation are balanced by limited browser support and cloud-only hosting.

Teams comparing Standard Operating Procedure Software or SOP Software should consider Tango when capturing work directly is more useful than building instructions by hand. Founded in 2020, Tango is made by Tango Technology, Inc.

Key features

Capture, walkthroughs and guidance

The Chrome and Edge extension records steps in websites and browser applications without code or flow builders. Tango’s Guide Me feature turns those steps into on-screen prompts and highlights where users should click, which can make documented procedures easier to follow than a static reference. Capture is not universal: the extension does not record Chrome Settings, the Chrome Web Store, or details inside Google Docs and Sheets.

The browser agent interacts with SaaS applications through their front-end interfaces using a Chrome or Edge extension, rather than API connections or bespoke integrations. Tango says it works across web applications and calls out HubSpot and Salesforce specifically. That approach suits browser-based work, but teams that require API-level integrations should look elsewhere.

Sharing, exports and desktop capture

Walkthroughs can be shared by link, embedded in a website or knowledge base, copied as HTML, or exported as PDF. Paid plans also include Markdown export. Tango supports multimedia content, video embeds, voice input, version history and completion tracking, giving teams options to publish and manage instructions across channels.

The Tango Desktop app captures workflows on Mac and Windows, but it is limited to Pro and Enterprise plans. Guide Me does not support workflows created with the desktop app, so the app is not a complete substitute for browser capture when users need on-screen guidance.

Privacy and deployment

Tango says data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and that it undergoes annual SOC 2 Type II audits and penetration tests. Its AI providers are not allowed to retain or use customer data for training or fine-tuning. Secure Blur and Live Blur help reduce collection of sensitive information, while editors can permanently redact information from images. These are useful controls for documentation that may expose personal or confidential data, though organizations requiring on-premises hosting cannot deploy Tango that way: it is cloud-based only.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. It includes five shared workflows, browser capture, link and embed sharing, and up to 10 users per workspace. It is a practical way for a small group to try shared browser documentation, but the five-workflow cap is restrictive for a growing library.

Pro Team requires at least three users. Annual billing is 15.00 USD per year, billed at $15 /month per user, billed annually; monthly billing is 20.00 USD per month, billed at $20 /month per user, billed monthly. Pro Personal covers one or two users: annual billing is 22.00 USD per year, billed at $22 /month per user, billed annually; monthly billing is 26.00 USD per month, billed at $26 /month per user, billed monthly. Both Pro options include unlimited workflows, browser and desktop capture, 14-day version history, and PDF, Markdown, and HTML export. Annual billing lowers the monthly per-user rate, while monthly billing costs more but avoids an annual billing commitment.

Enterprise uses custom pricing, with a platform fee based on the number of users supported. It adds unlimited applications, browser automation, 365-day version history and audit logs, plus SSO and SCIM. This is the tier to consider for organizations needing extended history and identity controls; smaller teams can get the core capture and export features on Pro.

Platforms

Tango is hosted and supports web, macOS, Windows and browser extensions. Its extension is available for Chrome and Edge, not Firefox or Safari. Desktop capture on Mac and Windows is reserved for Pro and Enterprise.

Who it's for

Tango fits teams that want to turn recurring browser work into shareable instructions, guide users through steps, and publish across links, embeds and export formats. It is less suitable for organizations that require on-premises deployment, Firefox or Safari extensions, or capture of the excluded Chrome and Google Docs or Sheets areas.

Pros and cons

Pros: Captures browser workflows without code or flow builders, then turns them into guided walkthroughs.
Pros: Multiple sharing and export formats make instructions easier to distribute through existing sites and knowledge bases.
Pros: Blur and redaction controls help limit sensitive information in captured documentation.
Cons: Browser extensions are limited to Chrome and Edge, and some browser and Google Workspace areas are not captured.
Cons: Desktop capture requires Pro or Enterprise, and desktop workflows do not work with Guide Me.
Cons: Cloud-only hosting rules out on-premises deployment.

Alternatives

For a different workflow-documentation option, Scribe has a free Basic plan that works with any web app and supports customization and link or embed sharing; its Pro Team plan is billed $17 monthly. Taqtile Manifest may suit teams seeking AI-assisted workflow creation with Android, iOS and web support; its Manifest Maker plan is free to start and lets Manifest users export to their domain.

Whale offers a free tier for up to 10 members, one creator, 20 Playbook items and 20 AI credits, while its Scale plan lists three creators. For buyers considering other procedure and knowledge tools, L2L Manufacturing Intelligence, Ansomat Management System, Knowby, SweetProcess and Waybook are also options.

Verdict

Choose Tango if your team needs to capture browser processes, turn them into guided instructions and share them in several formats. Its main advantage is the path from captured work to usable guidance; its main reason to look elsewhere is the combination of Chrome-and-Edge-only extensions, capture exclusions and cloud-only deployment.
