Overview

SpotOn supports full-service restaurants, bars and pubs, and counter-service operations, with solutions for casual and fine dining, breweries, quick service, fast casual, cafes, and bakeries. Bringing service workflows and management tools together can simplify operations across a restaurant. That tradeoff is less appealing to operators who want to keep their existing POS devices or freely connect their own software.

Key features

The POS includes table layouts, menu management, ordering, payments, reporting, and employee tools. Reservation booking, table management, and staff scheduling extend its reach beyond checkout. This breadth suits operators coordinating dining-room service and staff administration, though the product’s proprietary hardware requirement limits flexibility when choosing devices.

SpotOn says its offline mode keeps stations and devices connected and sends orders to the kitchen during an internet outage, then syncs offline payments once service returns. That continuity can matter to busy restaurants where a connectivity interruption would otherwise disrupt service.

SpotOn Order provides commission-free online ordering connected to the POS and GoTo Place app. DoorDash and Uber Eats integrate directly, with additional delivery platforms supported through Deliverect. The dashboard adds an AI menu assistant, dynamic reporting, marketing campaigns, remote management, multi-location tools, and employee tools. Users can access it from a browser on any device, and the dashboard app is mobile-friendly.

Integrations cover areas such as ordering, delivery, labor, inventory, kitchen display systems, kiosks, reservations, accounting, and payroll. SpotOn does not offer an open API, so operators must work through selected software providers rather than build arbitrary connections. SpotOn does not charge a blanket third-party integration fee, but providers may charge their own fees; customers who opt out of the Core Bundle also pay a small monthly marketplace access fee. The Handheld security specifications include PCI PTS v7 and end-to-end encryption.

Pricing

The All-In Plan is free, with POS software and hardware, ordering, payments, table layouts, menu management, and reporting. Processing minimums apply and the plan requires a 2-year minimum term. The zero-dollar headline therefore does not mean a commitment-free setup; it is worth considering only if the minimums and term fit the restaurant’s needs.

Core Bundle costs $50.00 per month per location, plus 20 basis points of gross payment volume, capped at $200. It includes Profit Assist, SpotOn Order, the GoTo Place app, Marketing Assist, and software integrations. Restaurants seeking these add-ons may value the bundle, but should account for the volume-based charge and compare it with the separate access fee that applies when opting out.

POS Essentials costs $55.00 per station per month. Station 15 hardware is $750 each, Handheld hardware is $297 each, and implementation costs are additional. Card-present processing is 2.45% + $0.15, except Amex at 3.19% + $0.15; keyed transactions cost 3.45% + $0.15. This plan gives operators a clear per-station software price, but hardware, implementation, and payment processing add materially to the total.

Build Your Own uses custom pricing for multi-unit, enterprise, and other high-volume operations, with custom processing rates and additional implementation costs. It is the fit for larger operations that need tailored terms; restaurants seeking a predictable published price should compare the other options carefully.

Platforms

SpotOn supports Android, iOS, and web. Browser access to the dashboard from any device is useful for managers who need remote access, while the POS’s proprietary hardware requirement means platform support does not translate into freedom to bring existing tablets or POS equipment.

Who it's for

SpotOn is a strong candidate for full-service, counter-service, and bar operators who want POS, online ordering, reservations, reporting, and management tools connected in one system. Multi-location operators may also benefit from remote management and multi-location tools. It is a weaker fit for businesses that depend on an open API, want to reuse their current POS hardware, or need to control payment and integration costs tightly.

Pros and cons

Pro: POS, ordering, reservations, reporting, and employee tools cover a wide range of restaurant workflows in one platform.
Pro: Offline mode is designed to keep orders flowing to the kitchen during an internet outage and sync payments afterward.
Pro: Included 24/7/365 technical support from real people gives operators access to help at any hour without an extra support charge.
Con: Restaurant customers cannot use their own POS hardware or tablets, which can mean replacing equipment that still works.
Con: There is no open API, and third-party software fees may apply, narrowing integration choice and adding potential costs.
Con: Processing rates, hardware, and implementation costs sit alongside software charges, making the entry price an incomplete picture of total cost.

Alternatives

For a focused menu-engineering tool rather than a full restaurant POS, Platematics has a free Starter plan with quadrant analysis, up to 50 menu items, manual food-cost entry, dashboard history, and PDF exports. Avero is another option for analytics: its free Starter plan allows unlimited users and usage and includes free POS integration for most common POS systems.

For a digital menu rather than an all-in-one restaurant management platform, ConectaMenu offers a free plan with up to 30 products, a QR menu, WhatsApp sharing, MenuBot, and a customer app. Plattr is another alternative. MenuGenie offers a free menu score with photo, PDF, or text upload and three recommendations, making it a narrower option for menu evaluation.

Possier Analytics is another alternative. tSpoonLab is another alternative. MenuSense offers a free plan capped at five AI credits per month, 20 menu items, and one restaurant, for operators who want a limited menu editor and CSV/Excel import.

Readers comparing products by category can also browse Restaurant Menu Engineering Software, Restaurant Table Management Software, Restaurant Management Software, Food Truck POS Software, Salon Loyalty Software, and Restaurant POS Software.

Verdict

Choose SpotOn if your restaurant wants POS, ordering, reservations, and management functions tied together, and you are willing to adopt its hardware and integration model. Its offline mode and broad operational coverage are persuasive strengths. Look elsewhere if keeping existing devices, using an open API, or minimizing layered processing and integration costs matters more than having those tools in one system.
