Overview

Appy Pie Church App Maker is a no-code builder for creating a branded app around a church’s sermons, events, giving, and member communication. It suits churches that want those services gathered in one mobile destination without building an app from scratch. Its practical appeal is breadth of member tools; its boundary is clear: it is not a church management system.

The workflow uses a ministry template, church details, branding, and content in a dashboard, then prepares store submissions. That gives a church a route to a tailored app without custom development, but publishing native apps requires a paid plan and separate store fees.

Key features

Sermons and streaming

Sermon audio can be delivered through podcast feeds and listened to offline, which helps members keep up when they are away from a connection. Live streaming supports chat or embedded YouTube Live and Vimeo; Church Online Platform streams can also be connected. These options cover common ways to distribute services, though they do not amount to a complete media or licensing solution: in-app music licensing is not included.

Giving and integrations

Giving can connect to Stripe, Tithe.ly, Pushpay, and Planning Center Giving, but the church needs its own payment processor account. The product also links to Planning Center Kids and Rock RMS check-in. These connections can extend an existing church setup, though the app should not be mistaken for the system managing that setup.

Member participation

Events with RSVP, small-group directories and messaging, prayer requests, Bible reading plans, volunteer scheduling, and push alerts give congregations several reasons to return to the app. The range is useful for churches coordinating participation, but the app does not provide live real-time translation or carrier-billed text donations.

Pricing

The model is freemium, with a free plan, a 7-day trial, and paid church app plans starting at $16/month. The trial on Appy Pie’s general builder is for developing and testing an app for personal, non-commercial use. The church app page does not establish a billing term beyond the displayed monthly starting rate, so it is best treated as a starting price rather than a full cost estimate.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free plan	Free	Unlimited edits and preview, with member-only rollout; store publishing requires a paid plan.
Paid church app plan (starting price)	16.00 USD per month	Google Play and Apple App Store publishing, in-app giving at commercial volume, live streaming for full congregations, and advanced push segmentation.
Basic	18.00 AUD per month	Android, 500 push notifications, 500 app downloads/month, Google Play publishing, and email support. The pricing page also displays AU $36.
Gold	36.00 AUD per month	Android, 1,000 push notifications, 1,000 app downloads/month, Google Play publishing, and email and chat support. The pricing page also displays AU $72.
Platinum	60.00 AUD per month	Android and Apple platforms, 2,000 push notifications, 2,000 app downloads/month, app store publishing, and email, chat, and call support. The pricing page also displays AU $120.
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Platinum features, unlimited app creation and push notifications, a custom number of API calls, and a dedicated account manager.

The free tier is useful for building and previewing, but member-only rollout is its ceiling: a public store release means paying, with store fees on top. The church-specific starting plan is the clearest fit for a congregation prioritizing store publishing, commercial-volume giving, and full-congregation streaming. The separate Basic, Gold, and Platinum prices spell out notification and download quotas; Basic and Gold are Android-only, while Platinum adds Apple publishing and broader support. Enterprise is for organizations needing unlimited creation and notifications or a tailored API allowance, with custom pricing.

Platforms

The church app supports Android, iOS, and web. Paid plans support native Android and iOS store publishing, with signed .aab and .ipa builds; Google Play and Apple App Store fees are separate. The lower Basic and Gold plan details specify Android only, so churches that need Apple store distribution should look to Platinum or a church app plan that includes both stores.

Who it's for

Appy Pie names community churches, youth and college ministries, worship teams, missions, and church plants as audiences. It is a sensible fit when a ministry wants branded delivery for sermons, giving, events, groups, and alerts, and can work with a separate church management system. It is a weaker fit for organizations that need administration in the same product, real-time translation, licensed music, or text donations billed through carriers.

Pros and cons

Pros

Wide member-facing toolkit: Sermons, giving, groups, RSVP events, prayer requests, volunteer scheduling, and Bible plans support more than basic announcements.
Several giving and media connections: Processor choices include Stripe, Tithe.ly, Pushpay, and Planning Center Giving, while streaming can use YouTube Live, Vimeo, or Church Online Platform.
Preview before committing to store publication: The free plan allows unlimited edits and preview, so a church can shape the app before paying to publish.
Support across regions: Live chat and email support spans US, EU, and APAC hours.

Cons

Free is not a public launch option: It is limited to member-only rollout, and store publishing requires a paid plan plus separate store fees.
Quotas constrain the lower Android plans: Basic caps push notifications and downloads at 500 each per month; Gold raises both to 1,000 but remains Android-only.
Not a full church operations suite: Churches needing church management, live translation, music licensing, or carrier-billed text donations will need other provisions.
Giving depends on another account: A payment processor account is required, so in-app giving is not a standalone payment service.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Church App Builders. Consider Subsplash Church App if a paid church app with a free $0/mo giving plan is a better fit; card and ACH processing fees apply. Choicely Church App is another freemium option, with a free tier that includes 25 daily credits (up to 150/month), 100 bonus signup credits, public mobile apps, unlimited collaborators, push notifications, and third-party API connections.

ChurchPlan is worth considering if a free-forever Essentials plan with unlimited members, online giving and automated tax receipts, a personalized mobile app, donation links, and QR codes matches the need. Church Compass is a paid option with a free trial and a $19/mo Basic plan; its $14.99/mo soft white-label add-on can be added to any plan for branded login and invite links.

Churchory is a paid option with a free trial and a $89.00 USD per month plan for up to 250 people. Tithely Custom Church App costs $89/mo, has a free trial, and is included with Tithely All Access; it can be canceled any time without penalty. ChurchPad Custom Mobile App is a $199.99/month option for iOS and Android, available on Growth or Scale plans with ongoing updates, maintenance, and support. OnlineGiving.org Church Mobile App offers a branded app with push notifications, in-app giving, and media; contact the provider for pricing.

Verdict

Choose Appy Pie Church App Maker if your church wants a branded Android and iOS app that brings media, giving, events, and group participation together, with a free preview stage before store publication. Its strongest case is the breadth of member tools and integrations; its clearest reason to look elsewhere is that it does not replace church management software, while public publishing moves the project onto a paid plan and separate store fees.
