Overview

VETport combines a SOAP-based electronic medical record with the operational systems a practice uses every day. Multiple veterinarians and staff members can work in the same record concurrently, which is useful for shared cases and handoffs. The product is positioned for general, mixed-animal, equine, mobile, specialty, enterprise, and university practices, so its scope is wider than a single-practice scheduling tool.

The service is browser-based and works on laptops, desktops, phones, and tablets with an internet connection. It has been offered since 2002 and is headquartered in Milford, Ohio. Its cloud model avoids local installation, while the stated security measures include end-to-end encryption, AWS hosting, firewalls, security procedures, and backups. VETport says it does not keep card data on its own servers. The privacy policy refers to encryption, SSL, password controls, physical safeguards, and restricted internal access, but that policy was last updated on January 1, 2019.

Key features

Clinical and practice operations

SOAP records sit alongside appointment scheduling, recurring appointments, inventory, reporting and analytics, laboratory connections, and payment-gateway integrations. Named laboratory and industry connections include IDEXX, Antech, Gribbles, Abaxis, VetScan, and Zoetis. The marketplace contains more than 30 third-party and in-house applications; add-ons can carry separate charges, with prices shown in that marketplace. This breadth suits practices trying to consolidate systems, although the eventual scope and cost will depend on which add-ons are required.

Client and team workflows

Clients can book through a website, receive email and SMS reminders, use telemedicine, and check in at a self-service kiosk. Online communication is complemented by calendar synchronization. Internally, task management, multi-time-zone synchronization, chat, and a bulletin board support distributed or shift-based teams. VETport also advertises 24/7 support, a knowledge base, and technical support contact, which matters when a practice relies on a single cloud system.

Migration and security

The maker says it manages migration and documents what will transfer before a practice commits. That can reduce conversion uncertainty for an established clinic, but buyers should still verify that every required record type and integration is included in the migration plan.

Pricing

VETport uses paid, quote-oriented pricing and offers a 30-day trial rather than a free plan. The published VETport plan costs 1405.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for three locations and 10 veterinarians, with no setup fee. Pricing is based on veterinarian and location counts, not total users, so adding support staff does not increase the stated fee. That structure is favorable to larger teams with many nurses, receptionists, or assistants, while the entry commitment is substantial for a small clinic.

There are no cheaper published tiers to compare. Marketplace extensions may be free or paid, so the base subscription should not be treated as the complete cost of a specialized deployment. Prospective customers should use the trial and migration review to confirm the fit before a monthly commitment.

Platforms

VETport runs on the web and has Android and iOS access. Because the application is delivered through a browser and requires an internet connection, it suits practices that need the same records and workflows across desktop workstations, tablets, and phones.

Who it's for

VETport is best suited to multi-location practices, collaborative teams, and organizations with complex clinical or operational requirements. Its support for multiple animal-practice models and shared records also makes it relevant to specialty, mobile, equine, enterprise, and university settings. A solo or small clinic that needs only appointments and basic records is less likely to justify the stated monthly price, especially without a free tier.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad practice coverage: Clinical records, scheduling, inventory, analytics, laboratory links, payments, telemedicine, and client booking are combined in one service.
Collaborative records: Multiple veterinarians and staff can contribute to a SOAP record at the same time.
Staff-friendly pricing basis: Fees use veterinarian and location counts rather than total users, so support-staff growth does not add a per-user charge.
Useful connectivity: More than 30 marketplace applications and named laboratory integrations can extend the core system.

Cons

High published commitment: 1405.00 USD per month covers three locations and 10 vets, which may exceed the needs of smaller practices.
No free plan: There is no permanent free option for testing basic workflows after the 30-day trial.
Add-on uncertainty: Marketplace applications may cost extra, making the final stack more expensive than the base plan.
Older privacy-policy date: The policy’s January 2019 update date gives buyers a reason to request current privacy and compliance information.

Alternatives

NaVetor is the better starting point for a practice seeking a free option, including a full-feature plan when using Patterson payment services subject to transaction-volume eligibility.

Provet Cloud suits single-site practices wanting a $99-per-vet monthly core plan, a $249 platform fee including one vet, and free access for non-vet staff.

Digitail is an alternative for practices wanting cloud SOAP records, online booking, inventory, billing, and more than 40 integrations, with a free trial but no free plan.

IDEXX Neo is worth considering when a veterinary team prefers IDEXX’s subscription platform and a free trial.

Vetspire is another paid, demo-led veterinary platform with broad desktop and mobile operating-system support.

DaySmart Vet is a lower-cost option to investigate, with plans starting at $123 per month and pricing that varies by practice.

Covetrus Pulse is an alternative for practices that want a web-based product and are prepared to request a demo for pricing.

ezyVet is worth comparing for cloud practices seeking packages starting at $199 per month, with pricing adjusted to hospital or practice size.

Verdict

Choose VETport when your practice needs a single system spanning shared medical records, operations, client engagement, and team coordination across multiple veterinarians or locations. Look elsewhere if your clinic is small, needs only core scheduling and records, or cannot support a 1405.00 USD monthly starting commitment plus possible marketplace charges.
