Overview

ApolloOne is a Mac photo and video viewer for photographers who want to review images where they are stored rather than import RAW files into a proprietary catalog. Its strongest case is the combination of culling, file metadata, and camera-focused inspection tools; it is a less natural fit for anyone who needs a cross-platform workflow.

Key features

Browse and cull directly from files, with RAW support, contact sheets, side-by-side comparison, color management, and a metadata viewer. That makes ApolloOne useful for assessing a shoot without adding a separate database step, though it is not positioned as a catalog system.

Metadata and search: EXIF tools manage keywords and metadata in files, and searches can use those fields with optional regular expressions. This suits photographers with organized folders who need to locate images by embedded information.
Focus checks: An overlay shows camera autofocus points, which can be inspected at 100% magnification. It offers a targeted way to check focus placement when culling.
Location editing: Interactive Apple and Google Maps accompany GPS editing by drag and drop. That is useful for correcting or reviewing location data without leaving the image workflow.
Pro batch work: Pro adds batch resizing and format conversion, batch export including RAW-to-JPEG conversion, and memory-card import with Auto Resume. These are meaningful time-savers for repeated jobs; users who only browse and cull may not need the upgrade.
Viewing and editing: Slideshows can use music from iTunes playlists, and ApolloOne can work with an external image editor of the user's choice. That flexibility avoids tying editing to a single named application.

Pricing

ApolloOne has a free version that remains available indefinitely, with a purchase reminder after 14 days. The pricing note also describes a 14-day trial. The paid choices cover subscriptions and perpetual licenses, so the right option depends on whether recurring billing or a one-time purchase better suits your workflow.

Free version: 0.00 USD per free. It is the no-cost way to keep using ApolloOne, but the plan details do not identify a specific edition or feature set.
1-Year Standard Subscription: 14.99 USD per year, billed 1 year, with Standard Edition features. A lower-cost annual paid option for users who do not need Pro features.
1-Year Pro Subscription: 23.99 USD per year, billed 1 year, with Pro Edition features. Choose it for batch export, conversion, resizing, and memory-card import without paying upfront for a perpetual license.
Pro Edition perpetual upgrade: 23.99 USD per once, an upgrade to Pro Edition. This is for users moving to Pro rather than buying a new Standard license.
Standard Edition perpetual license: 35.99 USD per once. It includes EXIF, Makernotes and XMP/IPTC editing, batch operations, batch rename, and cropping; it gives a one-time purchase option but not the stated Pro Edition feature set.
Pro Edition perpetual license: 59.99 USD per once, with Pro Edition features. It suits users who expect to keep the software and want Pro's batch capabilities without an annual subscription.

Platforms

ApolloOne is available only for Mac and requires macOS 12.0 or later. That requirement rules it out for older Macs and for teams that need a shared Windows or Linux tool. Support is offered through a contact form, FAQ, recovery guide, and tutorials. Anogeissus Limited says it collects personal data it considers relevant and required for communication, and will not disclose it externally except with consent, when legally required, or with prior notice.

Who it's for

ApolloOne is best suited to Mac photographers who prefer folder-based RAW review and want metadata search, focus-point inspection, GPS editing, or Pro batch processing in the same application. It is not the right choice for users on Windows or Linux, or for Mac users below macOS 12.0.

Pros and cons

Pro: File-based RAW culling avoids requiring a proprietary RAW database.
Pro: Focus-point overlays, metadata search, and GPS editing address specific photo-review tasks rather than just basic viewing.
Pro: Multiple annual and perpetual paid options let users choose between ongoing billing and a one-time license.
Con: Mac-only availability and the macOS 12.0 minimum exclude some systems and mixed-platform workflows.
Con: Batch export, resizing, conversion, and memory-card import are Pro features, so users needing those tools must pay beyond the free option.

Alternatives

Photo Viewer Software is a useful starting point for comparing this category. ImageGlass is worth considering for a free viewer across Linux, macOS, and Windows. Choose Pictureflect Photo Viewer if you use Windows and want its free plan's browsing plus crop, resize, convert, rotate, and print tools. Pineapple Pictures is a free, MIT-licensed viewer spanning Linux, Mac, and Windows, with a paid itch.io purchase offering experimental additional format support. For batch image conversion across desktop platforms, XnConvert has a free personal, educational, and nonprofit option; company licensing is priced separately. Geeqie is a free, GPLv2 open-source option for readers who prefer that model. IrfanView is a Windows-only alternative with a free private, non-commercial option and a commercial license. Mousepad is a free Linux option. FastStone Image Viewer is a Windows alternative with free personal and educational use and a commercial lifetime license.

Verdict

Choose ApolloOne if you are a Mac photographer who wants file-based RAW culling plus strong metadata, focus, and location tools, with Pro batch features available when needed. Look elsewhere if you need Windows or Linux support, an older macOS target, or a workflow built around a shared catalog rather than direct file browsing.
