Overview

ERPNext is built for organizations seeking to coordinate multiple business functions rather than buy a separate tool for each. Accounts, invoicing, sales, procurement, stock, manufacturing, projects, point of sale, HR and payroll give it a wide remit. Finance, inventory and order management, manufacturing tools and multi-entity support are included.

Businesses can deploy it in a hybrid setup, either self-hosting or using Frappe Cloud. That choice is valuable for teams balancing control against the work of operating their own infrastructure. ERPNext is made by ERPNext, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Key features

Broad operational coverage

Bringing finance, purchasing, stock and manufacturing together can help businesses coordinate processes across departments. Projects, point of sale, HR and payroll extend the system beyond core accounting and inventory. This breadth is a strong fit when an organization wants one ERP to cover several operational areas; it may be more system than a business needs if it is looking for only a narrow function.

Customization and global operations

A low-code and no-code builder can customize forms, reports, print formats, dashboards and workflows. That flexibility lets teams adapt the system to their processes, but also makes configuration a meaningful part of adopting it. ERPNext supports multiple subsidiaries, branches and currencies, consolidated reports, and configurable tax compliance, which makes it relevant to businesses operating across entities and markets.

Integrations, API and controls

Official integration categories include storage, identity, commerce, payments and Google services, with options such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe and Razorpay. Frappe exposes ERPNext DocTypes through REST API endpoints for reading, creating, updating and deleting records where permissions allow, giving technical teams a path to connect other systems.

ERPNext and Frappe Framework provide OTP or 2FA, IP restriction, field-level roles and permissions, and an advanced audit trail. Frappe says its quality and information security systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001:2013, and that Frappe Cloud is GDPR compliant. These controls and certifications matter to buyers evaluating governance and hosted deployment, though they do not remove the need to assess their own configuration and operating requirements.

Implementation and support

Frappe works with a global network of 200+ trained and certified partners for implementation, support, customization and integrations. Product Warranty provides Frappe engineer support for bug fixes, not functional support. Organizations that need help adapting workflows or resolving operational questions should account for that narrower warranty scope and consider implementation support separately.

Pricing

ERPNext uses a freemium model: the software can be self-hosted without a product charge, while Frappe Cloud hosting is paid. The prices below are monthly where stated.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Self-hosted ERPNext	Free	Self-host on your own server; AGPL-3.0 licensed; no product charge.
Self-host	Free	Free and open-source deployment on your own server, with installation scripts and AGPL-3.0 licensing.
Frappe Cloud Sites	5.00 USD per month	Single-site shared-server hosting with managed upgrades and backups.
Frappe Cloud Servers	20.00 USD per month	Virtual-machine hosting that supports multiple sites and benches.
Sites	5.00 USD per month	Single site on shared servers, managed upgrades and backups, scripting and custom apps, and Product Warranty.
Servers	125.00 USD per month	Dedicated-server isolation, snapshots, autoscaling, stronger reliability guarantees, global data centre locations and Product Warranty.

Self-hosting is the lowest-cost route, but the business takes on its own server deployment. The 5.00 USD per month shared-site options suit a single site where managed upgrades and backups are useful; they differ in whether scripting, custom apps and Product Warranty are included. Frappe Cloud Servers at 20.00 USD per month suit deployments needing multiple sites and benches on a virtual machine. The Servers plan at 125.00 USD per month is aimed at buyers who value dedicated isolation and the additional infrastructure features and guarantees.

A 14-day trial is offered. Product Warranty is limited to bug fixes, so it should not be treated as a substitute for functional support. The paid plans described here are hosting choices; self-hosting remains available under the AGPL-3.0 license.

Platforms

ERPNext is available through API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted deployment and the web. This mix supports both teams that want browser access and those planning to operate their own deployment or connect through the API.

Who it's for

ERPNext suits enterprises and small and medium businesses that want a broad ERP, including multi-entity operations, and have the resources to configure and maintain it or work with an implementation partner. Freelancers and DIY enthusiasts are also among its intended users, particularly those comfortable with self-hosting. Businesses seeking a narrowly scoped, fully managed service with functional support included should weigh the deployment and support responsibilities carefully.

For buyers comparing ERP Software, ERPNext's broad scope and open-source self-hosting make it a substantial option. Businesses in food production can also compare Food Manufacturing Software options if their main need is industry-specific manufacturing software.

Pros and cons

Pros

Wide module coverage: Finance, inventory, order management, manufacturing, projects, point of sale, HR and payroll can be brought into one ERP.
Deployment choice: Self-hosting has no product charge, while Frappe Cloud offers managed hosting at several price points.
Adaptable and extensible: The builder supports custom forms, reports and workflows, and REST API access enables integrations where permissions allow.
Multi-entity capabilities: Support for subsidiaries, branches, currencies and consolidated reporting is useful for organizations operating across entities.

Cons

Self-hosting carries operational work: The free option requires deploying on your own server, so it is less suitable for teams that do not want to manage infrastructure.
Warranty scope is narrow: Product Warranty covers bug fixes, not functional support.
Customization calls for ownership: The flexible builder can fit workflows, but businesses must plan for configuration or partner help.

Alternatives

Dolibarr is a free, open-source ERP and CRM option with on-premise or cloud deployment; third parties provide hosted SaaS offers. Choose it if that ERP-and-CRM package and hosting arrangement better match your needs.

Tryton is free, open-source business software for self-hosted servers or third-party hosting. It is worth considering if that hosting model is a better fit.

BUSY has a free Express plan for billing and accounting, multiple companies and financial years. Consider it if those functions are the primary requirement rather than ERPNext's broader module set.

Odoo ERP offers a free one-app plan with unlimited users, as well as Standard and Custom plans. It may suit buyers whose needs fit the one-app starting point or its other plan structure.

Exact Online is a paid, web-based option with a free trial and accounting plans that include online accounting, CRM, bank feeds and invoicing. Consider it if those are the central needs.

Axelor Open Suite has a free AGPL-licensed Community edition for self-hosted or web use. It is another option for buyers seeking an open-source community edition.

FacturaScripts offers a free-forever self-hosted core under the LGPL license, with API and desktop-platform support. It may be a fit if that self-hosted licensing and platform mix is preferable.

Epicor Kinetic is a paid option with platform, cloud package, concurrent user license and industry bundle choices. Consider it if that licensing and package structure suits your organization.

Verdict

Choose ERPNext if you need a broad, customizable ERP with multi-entity support and want the choice of free self-hosting or paid Frappe Cloud. Its main advantage is the breadth and flexibility of its operational modules; its main trade-off is that deployment, configuration and support beyond bug fixes require planning. Look elsewhere if you need a narrower tool or expect functional support to come with Product Warranty.
