Overview

Students set up academic terms and course schedules, then record whether each class was attended, missed, or did not meet. Per-course absence counts and warnings for courses nearing or passing their limits make the record useful for spotting attendance risk. Because capture is manual, the app depends on regular entries rather than recording attendance automatically.

Terms can have custom names, start dates, and lengths from 5 to 18 weeks, with no limit on how many students can create. A term becomes read-only after its final week, preserving a completed period from edits but preventing corrections through that term afterward.

Key features

Weekday schedules: Set up as many as five morning and five afternoon course slots per weekday, Monday through Friday. That fixed structure accommodates many school and college timetables, but not more than five courses in either period on a day or classes outside the weekday pattern.
Attendance records: Mark classes Attended, Absent, or Holiday / No Class. Long-press actions can update earlier weeks in bulk, which is useful for catching up on missed entries; manual marking still requires students to keep the record current.
Absence tracking: Live counts by course and highlights for courses approaching or exceeding a limit turn raw entries into a practical warning system. The value of those warnings depends on keeping attendance records accurate.
Offline-capable PWA: An installable app shell, home-screen icon, and full-screen mode support app-like use across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The offline app shell helps with access when disconnected, though the project uses Firebase for authentication and cloud data.
Languages and data: English and Turkish translations, plus browser-language detection, serve users of either language. Data is stored in the user's own Firebase project, with no third-party ads or tracking, giving self-hosters control over the backing project while requiring them to configure it.

Pricing

Free — free forever. The plan includes unlimited academic terms and up to five morning and five afternoon course slots per weekday. It is a strong fit for an individual student who fits those schedule caps; there is no paid tier or seat count to weigh, but hosting requires the user to set up a Firebase project.

Platforms

UnivTrack is an installable PWA supported on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The project also provides local setup and Vercel deployment instructions for self-hosting. Its listed stack includes Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, and Vercel Analytics is opt-in.

Who it's for

UnivTrack suits college and high-school students who want a free, personal way to track course absences and whose schedules fit the weekday slot limits. Its MIT license and setup instructions also suit technically comfortable users who want to run the app with their own Firebase project. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs attendance captured automatically, has a more irregular timetable, or expects to edit a term after it ends.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited terms and per-course absence warnings support tracking across multiple academic periods without a term cap.
Pro: Offline app-shell support and installation across mobile and desktop platforms give it more flexibility than a browser-only tracker.
Pro: Using the user's own Firebase project, with no third-party ads or tracking, gives self-hosters control over the data backend.
Con: Attendance is manual, so missed entries can undermine the accuracy of counts and warnings.
Con: The five-morning, five-afternoon weekday structure excludes some timetables.
Con: Completed terms are read-only, limiting the ability to correct old records.
Con: Self-hosting requires Firebase project configuration, adding setup work for users who want to run their own instance.

Alternatives

For a broader set of student attendance options, browse Student Attendance Software. Consider QRaten instead if QR/code-based attendance and personal history matter more than UnivTrack's course-slot and absence-limit tracking; its free plan is listed for students and members. Bulsee is another free option for readers comparing attendance tools, though its free-to-start plan has no stated price or usage limits.

Schools seeking a quote-based product can consider Attendances, whose price depends on student and staff numbers, modules, and scale. GatePass may suit schools that want to try a complete feature set for one full term at no cost before considering its paid Gate plan. For a web-based alternative, QRoll is limited to approved users, with access at its discretion.

AttenQR offers a free plan and a one-time $9.99 USD payment to remove ads permanently. Edusign is an organisation-focused paid alternative with custom pricing, 1,000 attendances per month before a €0.25-per-signature charge, and 1,200 document signatures per year. EduAttendance is another school subscription option, quoted per school by student count.

Verdict

Choose UnivTrack if you are a student who wants free, unlimited-term absence tracking and your timetable fits its weekday slots. Its course-level warnings are the clearest reason to choose it; look elsewhere if attendance must be captured automatically, your schedule exceeds its limits, or you need to revise completed terms.
