Overview

Awesome Screenshot brings page capture, screenshot markup, OCR and screen recording together across browser extensions, desktop apps, iPhone and web. It suits people who need to explain what is on a screen as well as save it; the free plan is useful for occasional work, but its caps and advanced-feature restrictions narrow its appeal for regular production use.

Its breadth is a strength: capture a full page, annotate the result, extract text or record a walkthrough. But it is not one uniform experience across devices. The Mac product records system audio and microphone alongside screen and camera, while the Windows desktop app offers cloud or local recording storage and is described as having no watermark or ads.

Key features

Capture, annotate and extract

One-click screenshots include entire pages, and scrolling capture is supported. Annotation tools make the capture useful for feedback rather than merely archiving an image, while OCR can extract text. PNG, JPG and PDF export cover common image and document handoffs. These tools make the extension particularly useful for support notes, bug reports and review comments; readers who only need a basic screenshot may not need the broader toolkit.

Record and share

Screen video can include the camera, and the Mac product adds system audio and microphone recording. That makes the product relevant for narrated demonstrations as well as still-image feedback, though recording capability and limits vary by plan. Sharing options include Facebook, Twitter and Gmail; feedback can also go through Google Drive, Trello, Slack or Asana. Trello, Slack, Asana and Jira are named as connected tools, which helps teams already working in those services.

Storage, privacy and support

The Windows desktop app can save recordings to AwesomeScreenshot.com Cloud or a local computer. The privacy policy identifies Diigo Inc. and describes personal-data collection, use and disclosure to provide and improve the service; its Data Processing Agreement says it is intended to comply with the EU GDPR. The homepage provides a Help/FAQ link and care@awesomescreenshot.com for support.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and allows up to 100 screenshots and 20 recordings, with up to six hours per recording, 720p quality and three-day trash recovery. That is a workable trial of the core workflow, but the recording count, resolution and short recovery window make it a poor fit for an active team archive. Advanced screenshot annotation, advanced recording, and editing and download durations are limited on the free version.

Basic costs 5.00 USD per month when billed annually ($5/month billed annually) or $6/month billed monthly. It removes the screenshot cap and extends trash recovery to 30 days, but keeps the 20-recording limit and 720p ceiling. Basic is best for people who capture many stills but record only occasionally.

Professional costs 6.00 USD per month when billed annually ($6/month billed annually) or $8/month billed monthly. It includes unlimited screenshots and recordings, up to six hours per recording, up to 4k and 30-day trash recovery. For frequent recording or higher-resolution output, the annual price is only $1/month above Basic; monthly buyers pay a $2/month difference. The listed plans are priced per month, with no seat count stated.

Platforms

Awesome Screenshot is available as an extension, on iOS and macOS, on the web and on Windows. Official browser extensions or add-ons are listed for Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Yandex and Vivaldi. The Mac and Windows apps have distinct recording and storage details, so users choosing primarily for those capabilities should match the app to their workflow.

Who it's for

It is a strong fit for individuals and teams who move between full-page screenshots, annotated feedback and short or long-form screen recordings, especially when OCR and common collaboration tools matter. The Free plan suits light use; Basic suits screenshot-heavy work; Professional is the more sensible tier for regular recording or 4k output. It is less compelling for anyone who needs a consistently unrestricted free workflow or wants every platform to offer identical recording features.

Pros and cons

Pros: Full-page and scrolling capture, markup, OCR and three export formats bring common screenshot tasks together.
Pros: Professional permits unlimited recordings and up to 4k, while Windows supports local as well as cloud storage.
Pros: Browser coverage spans eight named browsers, and sharing and feedback options include familiar team services.
Cons: Free caps screenshots and recordings at 100 and 20 respectively, and limits advanced tools and editing/download durations.
Cons: Basic still caps recordings at 20 and resolution at 720p, so frequent video users need Professional.
Cons: Recording details differ between Mac and Windows, which complicates choosing solely by platform breadth.

Alternatives

For a single category comparison, start with Screenshot Annotation Software, Screenshot Software, Screen Capture Software or Screen Recording Software.

Monosnap is worth comparing if Linux support, a free trial or a free tier with 2 GB storage and five-minute video recording better fits the need. Choose Screenpresso for a Windows-focused option with HD video capture and image editing, accepting branding on its free video and sharing. ShareX is a free, open-source Windows alternative that requires no account.

Greenshot is a Windows option for screenshot capture, annotation and export to files, clipboard, printer or email. PicPick is another Windows choice, with its Home plan restricted to personal, non-commercial use and no technical support. Markup Hero fits readers looking for a free allowance of 25 screenshots and history with annotation, sharing and export. Flameshot is the free, open-source option for Windows, macOS or Linux. ScreenAI is a cross-platform alternative whose free plan includes OCR, redaction and 10 AI requests per day.

Verdict

Choose Awesome Screenshot if your work calls for one tool to capture full pages, mark them up, extract text and record screen walkthroughs across browser and desktop options. Its best reason to buy is the combination of screenshot and recording workflows, with Professional adding unlimited recordings and 4k. Look elsewhere if a generous free allowance, Linux support or a simpler platform-specific capture tool matters more than that breadth.
