Overview

BatchBoost calculates recipe costs per batch and per unit, updating them when ingredient prices change. Production runs, batch numbers and yield tracking sit alongside forward and backward traceability, connecting recipe planning with records of what was made and where it went. Allergen tracking, recipe versioning, yield scaling, nutrition information and multi-location support extend the system beyond basic costing.

Food-safety tools include 19 downloadable templates described as SALSA-aligned and allergen management covering all 14 FSA-recognised allergens. Label formats include UK PPDS, UK Traffic Light nutrition and US FDA Nutrition Facts panels. The mix is useful for producers selling into different markets, though label customisation is not described.

Key features

Recipe costing: Costs update when ingredient prices change, reducing the need to recalculate batch and unit economics manually.
Production and traceability: Run, batch-number and yield records support tracing products in either direction, a practical fit for producers who need to follow ingredients and finished batches.
Stock and events: Paid plans add stock management and event planning. Recipe-based production runs can deduct stock automatically, linking planned output to inventory.
Integrations and API: Square POS is included on Standard and Premium. BatchBoost Connect can receive data on all plans, but sending is Premium-only. Shopify is live; Faire, Xero and QuickBooks are coming soon. A REST API and MCP server are available on Standard and above.
Security and data: BatchBoost uses row-level security, expiring session tokens, TLS in transit and cloud encryption at rest. Users own their data and can export it from Settings → General.

Pricing

The free plan is free, billed $0/year, and allows 2 users, 5 recipes and 0 sites. It is a way to assess the core product at small scale, but zero sites makes it a poor fit for a working multi-location operation. The plans page advertises a 30 Day free trial of the Stock & Event Module.

Grow costs $30.00 USD per month, billed $360/year, for 2 users, 50 recipes and 1 site. It raises the recipe ceiling substantially over Free but adds no seat capacity, so it suits a small single-site team rather than a growing staff.

Standard costs $50.00 USD per month, billed $600/year, and allows 3 users, 100 recipes and 2 sites. It is the first tier with the REST API, MCP server and Square POS integration, making it the more useful choice for operators connecting production data or managing multiple sites. Its three-seat limit may constrain larger teams.

Premium costs $100.00 USD per month, billed $1200/year, for 5 users, 150 recipes and 3 sites. It adds BatchBoost Connect sending as well as retaining receiving, and suits teams that need those higher limits and outbound integration. Custom is custom pricing for large-scale food manufacturers seeking a custom solution.

The listed pricing note says paid plans start at £15/mo, but the plan prices are shown in USD; compare the displayed plan and annual billing terms before committing. The sharpest limitation is capacity: even Premium caps at five users and three sites.

Platforms

BatchBoost supports web and API access. Its REST API and MCP server require Standard or higher, so Free and Grow users do not get those developer interfaces.

Who it's for

BatchBoost is a strong fit for small food producers that need recipe costs tied to production batches, traceability and food-safety materials in one system. Paid stock and event planning are useful where production needs to connect to inventory. It is less suitable for teams that need many seats or sites, or that require Xero or QuickBooks integration now rather than when those integrations become available.

Pros and cons

Pros

Recipe costs adjust when ingredient prices change, keeping batch and unit figures current.
Production runs, yields and two-way traceability support a coherent record from making through tracking.
Allergen coverage spans all 14 FSA-recognised allergens, with regional label formats for the UK and US.
Data export and stated encryption and access controls give users practical control over their records.

Cons

The free tier allows only five recipes and no sites, limiting its usefulness beyond a small evaluation.
Premium still tops out at five users and three sites, which may not fit larger operations.
Square POS starts at Standard, while BatchBoost Connect sending is reserved for Premium.
Faire, Xero and QuickBooks are not yet live integrations.

Alternatives

For a wider set of restaurant recipe management software, compare the options in this category.

RecipeStandard is worth considering for a mobile-friendly setup: it supports Android, iOS, web and API, and its free Starter plan allows up to 15 recipes, one location and one user. Cucinovo is a simpler household-oriented alternative, with a free web plan for one user and unlimited recipes, plus shopping and grocery lists. OnePe Recipe Management is another freemium web and API option, with a free plan capped at 10 menu items.

Miselup offers Android, iOS and web access, with a free tier for up to 50 recipes and preparations. Nutritics Recipe and Menu Management is a paid option with desktop as well as web platform support, suited to readers comparing broader platform coverage. Enplace offers a free single-restaurant plan, though access is selectively approved during private beta.

reciProfity is a paid alternative whose Starter plan costs $49.00 USD per month and is limited to 10 recipes. CertiStar Digital Recipe Book is another paid option, with a MenuStar monthly plan starting at $99.00 USD per month for one location.

Verdict

Choose BatchBoost if you run a small food-production operation and want recipe costing, batch records, traceability and food-safety tools tied together, with paid stock and event planning as you grow. Its most compelling advantage is the link between recipe economics and production tracking. Look elsewhere if your operation needs more than five users or three sites, or depends on integrations that are not yet live.
