Overview

Biyo POS is a point-of-sale system for retailers, restaurants, and businesses that sell both in person and online. It is best suited to operators who need inventory and reporting across multiple locations, though the per-terminal paid pricing can add up as a business expands. The system is made by Biyo POS, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Ridgefield, New Jersey.

Its breadth is the main draw: Biyo combines sales, inventory, restaurant operations, online ordering, and multi-location management. Offline mode is designed to keep transactions moving when internet service is unavailable. Biyo also says internet transfers use TLS encryption and hosts data with Amazon Web Services in Germany.

Key features

Inventory and multi-location control

The Inventory Scanner app supports stocktakes and stock checks across stores, while multi-location tools provide centralized control and inventory management. That combination is useful for businesses that need to coordinate stock between sites rather than treat each store as a separate operation. Employee permissions add a way to manage staff access. The value of these controls depends on how many locations and terminals a business actually runs, since paid plans are priced per terminal.

Restaurant operations

Tableside ordering, table-status tracking, reservations, and a digital floor plan address both order-taking and the coordination of restaurant tables. These features make Biyo more relevant to cafes, bars, and restaurants than a basic register, although the available features do not establish how they compare with dedicated restaurant systems.

Reporting and online sales

Reporting can show revenue, costs, and margins, with comparisons across locations or time periods. For businesses selling through WooCommerce, the integration synchronizes inventory and orders, unifies the product catalog, and combines online and in-store reporting. This is a practical fit for merchants who want sales channels to share stock and reporting rather than maintain separate records.

Offline operation and hardware

Biyo says offline mode lets businesses continue processing transactions without internet connectivity, and offline payments are supported. Merchants can use their own hardware; supported device families include Windows, Linux, Chrome, iOS, and OS X. That flexibility may help businesses work with existing equipment, but it does not remove the need to check compatibility with a specific setup.

Pricing

Biyo offers a free plan for US businesses through Premium + Processing, priced at no cost and subject to processing fees. It is the entry point for businesses willing to pay transaction costs rather than a monthly subscription. The 14-day free trial requires no credit card.

Standard costs 47.00 USD per month, billed $47/month per terminal. It includes all features and integrations, 24/7 online support, and support for other card processing providers. It is the lower-cost paid choice for businesses that need those features and payment-provider flexibility, but its per-terminal charge means costs rise with each additional terminal.

Premium costs 97.00 USD per month, billed $97/month per terminal. It includes all features and integrations, 24/7 online and phone support, and other card processing providers. The higher price is most relevant to businesses that want phone support; those content with online support can avoid paying that premium with Standard. Both paid plans are per terminal, so multi-location operators should account for their terminal count when comparing the monthly cost.

Platforms

Biyo POS supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows. Its hardware guidance also names Chrome devices, giving businesses several platform options, though a particular device should be checked against its intended use before purchase.

Who it's for

Biyo is a strong candidate for retailers and food-service businesses that need inventory, offline transactions, reporting, or centralized oversight across locations. Restaurants can use its table and ordering tools, while WooCommerce merchants can connect online orders and stock with in-store operations. It is less compelling for a small operation with one terminal and minimal inventory needs if those broader capabilities would go unused, or for a business that wants to avoid processing fees on the free plan and per-terminal charges on paid plans.

Pros and cons

Pros: Inventory scanning and centralized multi-location stock management suit businesses coordinating stores.
Pros: Restaurant tools cover tableside ordering, reservations, table status, and floor planning.
Pros: Offline transaction processing and support for merchants' own hardware offer operational flexibility.
Pros: The WooCommerce connection synchronizes stock and orders and combines channel reporting.
Cons: The free US plan charges processing fees, so it is not cost-free for businesses taking payments.
Cons: Paid plans charge per terminal, which can make a larger multi-location setup more expensive.
Cons: Phone support is reserved for Premium, while Standard provides online support only.

Alternatives

Point-of-Sale Software is a broader category to consult when comparing POS systems beyond Biyo.
Food Truck POS Software is the relevant category for readers choosing software specifically for a food truck.
Loyverse is worth considering if its free POS plan and Android, iOS, API, and web platforms fit; its unlimited sales history plan costs 5.00 USD per month, billed $5/month per store.
HunoMenu is another freemium option with Android, iOS, web, and Windows platforms.
CartFlow may suit readers whose needs fit its capped free plan: 3 events and 20 sales records per month, 10 products, 3 recipes, 15 stock items, and 1 saved venue.
FuegoPOS is an alternative with a free Starter plan that charges processing fees and includes split payments and offline mode.
SpotOn Restaurant is a paid alternative whose All-In Plan has processing minimums and a two-year minimum term.
Zeller offers a free-to-run POS without a monthly software fee, but requires a Zeller Terminal and charges transaction fees.
ParcelPOS is a freemium option on Android and Windows.
Paloma365 is a paid alternative with a Startup plan at 23.00 USD per month, billed $23/mo or $20/mo when paid yearly, for one location and one workstation.

Verdict

Choose Biyo POS if your retail or restaurant operation needs inventory and reporting across locations, offline transaction handling, or a bridge between WooCommerce and in-store sales. Its combination of store and restaurant tools is its strongest case. Look elsewhere if terminal-based subscription costs or processing fees outweigh the benefit of that breadth, or if phone support is essential but Premium's higher per-terminal price is not justified.
