Overview

BlippBuilder is a browser-based tool for creating augmented-reality projects, best suited to creators who want a visual workflow with the option to use code. Its tracking choices and web publishing make it flexible for connected experiences, but publishing requires a paid plan—and new subscriptions are currently suspended.

Key features

Creation and tracking

The drag-and-drop editor supports projects made with or without coding, giving visual creators a starting point without ruling out code in the workflow. Surface and marker tracking, gyro features, and listed face, image, and world tracking offer several ways for an experience to respond to its surroundings or visual targets. That range is useful for varied AR concepts, although it does not make the tool suitable for projects that must work offline.

Assets and preview

Uploads can include JPG, PNG, and GIF images, MP4 video, MP3 audio, and GLB or glTF 3D files. The Sketchfab integration lets creators browse and import thousands of free 3D assets from within the builder, which can speed up prototyping. Paid Sketchfab models are not imported through that integration; users must download and upload them separately.

Projects can be previewed in the editor canvas or tested on a device through a temporary QR code before publication. That gives creators a way to check the experience on a device before committing it to a live project.

Publishing and access

Published projects are delivered on the web and shared by URL or QR code. Audiences can experience the AR content on iOS and Android smartphones, desktop, and headsets including Magic Leap 2 and Meta Quest. This reach is useful for projects aimed at mixed devices, but an internet connection is required; BlippBuilder does not support offline AR. Published projects also remain live only while the subscription is active, so ongoing delivery depends on maintaining a paid subscription.

Pricing

BlippBuilder uses a freemium model, but its free Starter plan is for creating, testing, and exploring projects; publishing requires a paid plan. That makes it useful for exploration, not for launching a public experience. Blippar has suspended new subscriptions while upgrading its technology platform architecture, so teams should confirm that a suitable paid plan can be obtained before planning a launch.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Starter	Free	Create, test, and explore projects; no publishing.
Creative	Custom pricing; billed 30 days, auto-renewal	1 user, 1 published project, unlimited views, free hosting and storage.
Creative Plus	Custom pricing; billed 30 days, auto-renewal	1 user, 2 published projects, unlimited views, no Blippar watermark, free hosting and storage.
Pro	Custom pricing; billed 30 days, auto-renewal	5 users, up to 5 published projects, unlimited views, free hosting and storage, and 1 hour of technical support.
Education	Custom pricing	A custom plan based on educational needs.
Enterprise	Custom pricing	A custom plan for business or organisation needs.

Creative suits a solo creator who needs one live project; Creative Plus allows one more project and removes the watermark, still for one user. Pro is the clear fit for a small team that needs more seats and up to five projects, with an hour of technical support. All three paid plans include unlimited views, hosting, and storage, while the Starter plan gives up publication entirely. Since paid-plan prices are custom pricing, buyers cannot compare the subscription cost from the stated plan terms alone. The 30-day billing and auto-renewal on the named paid plans are material ongoing commitments.

Platforms

The editor is web-based, while created AR content can be experienced on Android and iOS phones, desktop, and supported headsets such as Magic Leap 2 and Meta Quest. The broad audience-device range is a strength for online distribution, not a workaround for the internet requirement.

Who it's for

BlippBuilder is a reasonable fit for creators and small teams building connected AR experiences who value visual authoring, multiple tracking options, and device previewing. Its free plan supports experimentation, while paid plans distinguish between a single-user project and a five-user team. It is a poor fit for offline deployments, and the subscription suspension makes it a risky choice for any launch that depends on securing a new paid plan now.

Pros and cons

Pros: Drag-and-drop creation with optional coding supports different creator workflows.
Pros: Multiple tracking options, common media and 3D upload formats, and in-editor Sketchfab access give creators useful building blocks.
Pros: Previewing in the canvas or on a device before publication helps catch issues before release.
Cons: Starter cannot publish, and paid subscriptions are currently suspended, blocking a straightforward path from exploration to launch.
Cons: Online access is mandatory, and published projects go offline when the subscription is no longer active.
Cons: Paid plan prices are custom pricing; Creative and Creative Plus each allow only one user, and the Sketchfab integration excludes paid models.

Alternatives

Consider MyWebAR if a free plan with a stated allowance of 100 views per year, 100 MB of storage, and five projects better matches a small project; it also has a free trial and runs on a broader set of listed platforms, including desktop operating systems.

JigSpace may suit teams wanting a free plan with two user seats and three active Jigs, accepting limits of three steps and 100 MB of team storage. Its listed platform range includes macOS and Windows as well as web and mobile.

Artivive Bridge is worth considering for artwork-led projects: its free Basic plan allows unlimited artworks but caps lifetime views at 50 and memory at 1 MB. Its Pro plan is 1166.00 EUR per year and includes 1,000 views.

Kivicube may be a better fit for a small, non-commercial project that can work within two scenes, 500 scene experiences, ads, and a 30M model-upload limit on its free Basic plan.

STYLY is another free-plan option for creators considering smartphone and HMD experiences with location-alignment features.

Assemblr EDU may suit education projects that can use 400 free 3D objects, 30 MB of account storage, and limited Topics and Edu Kits on its free plan; it also provides unlimited QR markers and 25 custom graphic AR markers.

WorldCAST offers a free Creator plan with unlimited monthly views, no expiry date, personal and commercial use, all studios, a QR code generator, and basic analytics, making it an alternative for projects prioritising those terms.

Elysium is a free alternative for iOS and web users whose project fits one private world, three public scenes, and up to 30 assets published on its global CD.

Verdict

BlippBuilder is best for creators who need a visual AR editor, several tracking approaches, and web delivery to phones, desktops, and headsets. Its strongest reason to choose it is the combination of flexible authoring and pre-publication device preview. Look elsewhere if you need offline AR or must launch soon: an active subscription is required to keep projects live, and new subscriptions are suspended.
