Overview

Pimcore combines PIM, MDM, DAM, DXP and commerce around a shared data foundation. That breadth can connect work that might otherwise sit in separate systems, but it is more than a focused catalog or content tool requires. The maker is based in Salzburg, Austria; the product facts give a 2013 founding date.

Its scope crosses Product Information Management Software, Master Data Management Software and Content Management Systems.

Key features

Product data and assets

PIM includes data quality and completeness scoring, data quality rules, more than 45 field types for modeling, and multichannel publishing. These tools suit teams with varied product records and standards to maintain. DAM adds asset metadata and rights management, approval workflows and links between assets and products, useful when catalog content and media need to stay coordinated.

Experiences and integrations

DXP capabilities include multisite and multilingual management, personalization, targeting and workflow approval. Pimcore names Upsun, Shopware, iPaas.com, Productsup and trbo among its Global Technology Alliances. Together, these capabilities make the platform relevant to organizations coordinating content and data across multiple sites and channels.

Deployment and support

Community Edition supports cloud or on-premises deployment; Enterprise Edition can run on private or public cloud or in a private data center. Pimcore PaaS offers AWS, GCP and Azure options, managed infrastructure and 24x7 support. Pimcore says its PaaS includes automated security and displays compliance badges for PCI, GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, FERPA, CCPA, BDSG and PIPEDA.

Enterprise includes Long-Term Support with regular patches and legacy support; DirectConnect access to the core development team is optional. Community Edition has no commercial support, leaving users to GitHub, community forums and documentation. That gap matters for organizations that need a commercial support route.

Pricing

Pimcore is freemium. Community Edition has no listed price and is positioned for non-production use, academic environments, non-profits and businesses below EUR/USD 5 million annual revenue. It is a way to use the platform in those settings, but not a commercially supported edition.

Professional Edition costs 9900.00 USD per year, billed annually. It includes on-premises deployment, a commercial licensing model, access to Pimcore Store and core capabilities. The Professional plan is also priced at 9900.00 USD per year, billed per year, and specifies no user-, data-volume- or SKU-based pricing. This is the paid on-premises option for organizations seeking core capabilities without those pricing bases.

Enterprise Edition costs 29900.00 USD per year, billed annually. It adds enterprise extensions, Long-Term Support and optional 24/7 support to on-premises deployment. The Enterprise plan is likewise 29900.00 USD per year, billed per year, and specifies unlimited organization-wide deployments and users. Its higher price is aimed at organizations that need enterprise extensions and support arrangements.

PaaS pricing is custom pricing for the general managed-hosting offer, which includes operations, 24/7 support, profiling, monitoring, alerting, auto-scaling and zero-downtime deployments. Its priced editions are:

Starter PaaS Edition: 39900.00 USD per year for smaller applications and POCs, moderate data and media management, and single-channel delivery.
Growth PaaS Edition: 57900.00 USD per year for complex data management, multiple integrations and regular traffic with occasional peaks.
Performance PaaS Edition: 79900.00 USD per year for intricate data needs, real-time integrations and high traffic across multiple channels.

The pricing FAQ says there are no limits on products, assets, sites or users, but customers needing more than four independent production instances should contact Pimcore. The absence of per-user, data-volume or SKU pricing on Professional may suit broad deployments, while PaaS tiers carry a much higher annual cost for managed operations.

Platforms

Pimcore supports API, Linux, self-hosted and web platforms. Community Edition can be deployed in cloud or on-premises environments, and Enterprise Edition supports private or public cloud and private data centers. PaaS is the managed route for teams that want infrastructure and operations included.

Who it's for

Pimcore is best suited to organizations that need product and master data, digital assets and digital experiences connected, and can budget for annual licensing or managed hosting. Community Edition fits non-production use, academic environments, non-profits and businesses under EUR/USD 5 million in annual revenue, provided the lack of commercial support is acceptable. A team that needs only one discipline, or a commercial user requiring support on the free edition, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: PIM, MDM, DAM, DXP and commerce share a data foundation, supporting connected data and experience work.
Pro: Professional pricing does not vary by user, data volume or SKU, and the FAQ sets no product, asset, site or user caps.
Pro: Enterprise offers Long-Term Support, with optional DirectConnect and 24/7 support.
Con: Commercial on-premises plans start at 9900.00 USD per year, while PaaS editions start at 39900.00 USD per year.
Con: Community Edition has no commercial support, limiting its appeal for production businesses that need vendor support.
Con: More than four independent production instances require contacting Pimcore.

Alternatives

CluedIn is worth considering for a buyer focused on MDM pricing by processed record and AI credit: its Essential plan gives the first 15,000 records free and $100 AI credit, with unlimited records and users. It also offers a free trial.

Prospecta MDO may fit SAP-oriented teams that want its Starter Edition's SAP solution packages and defined business-rule and transfer-package allowances; it costs 24000.00 USD per once, with a minimum contract of 1 year.

Civica Complaints Management is another option for readers comparing paid software.

Veeva Network MDM is an option to consider for enterprise pharma, biotech, animal health or consumer health organizations.

Informatica Product 360 may suit buyers prepared for pricing shaped by data volume, modules, deployment, integrations and add-ons.

Precisely EnterWorks is an alternative for buyers willing to request a demo and work with an active entitlement for downloads.

Stibo Systems STEP is another enterprise master data management platform to compare.

Syndigo MDM is another paid MDM option to compare.

Verdict

Choose Pimcore when your organization needs product, master and asset data connected to multilingual, multisite experiences, and its annual licensing or managed-hosting cost is justified by that breadth. Look elsewhere if you need a narrower tool, a low-cost commercial starting point or commercial support with the free edition.
