Overview

Bounce Metronome Pro is a visual metronome for musicians who want control over rhythm, tempo, and practice cues. It is best suited to players working on complex meters or structured tempo drills, rather than anyone who only needs a basic click. The one-time Pro price is straightforward, but the post-trial pauses and timeouts make the unlock important for regular use.

Key features

Pro handles odd and additive time signatures, arbitrary subdivisions, swing, drum rudiments, polyrhythms, and rare rhythms. That breadth is useful for practicing material that a conventional beat pattern cannot represent; it is unnecessary overhead for simple timekeeping. Tap tempo, fractional BPM, and an unlimited tempo range help set a precise pulse, while gradual tempo changes, silent intervals, speed drills, and automatic tempo and rhythm switching support more structured practice.

Bouncing visuals, conducting patterns, beat and sub-beat counts, and silent mode offer alternatives to following an audible click. Sound controls include beat and subdivision accents, rhythm auto-accents, selectable instruments, chord accompaniment, and stereo panning. MIDI output can feed VSTi and sound fonts, which makes Pro more appropriate for musicians incorporating the metronome into a software-instrument setup than for those seeking only a standalone pulse. The maker also describes accessibility features for blind, visually impaired, and deaf musicians.

The maker says the downloadable programs collect no data, include no spyware or ads, and connect to the internet only when requested. It says payment agents handle card details and that it does not see card numbers. Support is offered by email, with tutorials, a wiki, and a forum; the maker also advertises a no-quibbles money-back guarantee.

Pricing

The Free Beginner’s Bounce Metronome plan is free and covers common beginner time signatures, up to four subdivisions, and a basic drum machine. It is a reasonable starting point for basic practice, but not a substitute for Pro’s broader rhythm and tempo toolkit.

Bounce Metronome Lite costs 9.99 USD per once for Windows desktop, with Linux use via Wine. Bounce Metronome Pro costs 29.99 USD per once on the same stated platform terms. Lite is the lower-cost paid option; Pro is the choice for musicians who need the advanced rhythm, tempo, sound, and MIDI controls. The current download includes a fully featured 30-day Pro trial that users can start when they choose. After it ends, Basic and Pro animations pause every few seconds and audio times out after a few minutes unless an unlock key is purchased, so the free plan is not a dependable way to keep using those modes continuously.

Platforms

The stated platform coverage is Windows and Linux. The current download is for Windows and can run on Linux using Wine. The maker’s older 32-bit Mac beta does not run on macOS High Sierra or later, so Mac users should not assume the listed macOS coverage means a current compatible release.

Who it's for

Choose Bounce Metronome Pro if you practice unusual meters, polyrhythms, or tempo progressions and will use its visual, sound, or MIDI options. The Basic plan can suit beginners who need common signatures and a few subdivisions. Look elsewhere if you require a confirmed current Mac version, mobile access, or only a simple pulse without the Pro controls.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad rhythm support and detailed tempo tools suit demanding practice beyond standard meters.
Pros: Visual cues, selectable sounds, chord accompaniment, and MIDI output give musicians several ways to integrate or follow the beat.
Pros: A fully featured 30-day trial and one-time paid plans let users evaluate Pro before committing and avoid a recurring subscription.
Cons: After the trial, animations pause and audio times out without an unlock key, limiting continued use.
Cons: The current download is Windows-focused; Linux requires Wine, and the older Mac beta is incompatible with macOS High Sierra or later.

Alternatives

Metronome Apps is a broader directory for comparing metronomes. Consider True Metronome if you want Android, iOS, macOS, or web access and a free plan with 20–400 BPM, all time signatures, and background playback. MagicBPM offers a free core app across Android, iOS, macOS, and web; its phone apps show ads, while the Mac app is ad-free.

Metronome Beats may fit mobile users seeking a free app, though its free version contains ads and in-app purchases; its iOS Pro plan is 8.99 USD per once. Choose Easy Metronome if you want a free app across Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, with optional sound-pack purchases. PolyMetronome is another option for a free Simple Mode across Android, iOS, and web, with a yearly Pro plan.

The Metronome by Soundbrenner offers a free core app on Android, iOS, and macOS. Pro Metronome is worth considering for an ad-free free version on Android or iOS, with paid plans including a 3.99 USD one-time Pro option. Yames is a free, offline option for Linux, macOS, or Windows that requires no account.

Verdict

Bounce Metronome Pro is a strong fit for musicians who need intricate rhythm controls, guided tempo practice, or MIDI output, and its one-time price avoids recurring fees. Choose it over a basic metronome when those capabilities matter; look elsewhere if you need dependable modern Mac support, mobile access, or continuous free use after the trial.
