Overview

Users answer plain-language questions to generate court forms, then download or print them. Where a court supports online filing, LegalAtoms can also carry documents through submission, clerk responses, and correction guidance. That makes it more than a form generator, though filing availability depends on the relevant court.

Coverage spans U.S. states and territories, with confirmed connectivity to Tyler Odyssey, Journal eCourt, and the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal. The court portal supports case review, role-limited access, routing to judges or law enforcement, calendars, and payments by debit card, credit card, or check. Founded in 2017, the company is based in Seattle.

Key features

Document preparation and case filing

Plain-language prompts can make court forms less intimidating for people unfamiliar with legal terminology. Users can download or print generated documents; where supported, e-filing adds case tracking, clerk responses, correction guidance, and rejection alerts. The named integrations are a useful starting point for courts, but they do not mean every court offers online filing through LegalAtoms.

Court operations and electronic service

Court-facing tools bring case review, calendars, payment, and routing into one workflow, with access limited by role. Electronic service can be sent through SMS, email, and social or private messaging channels, with records of delivery, opening, signature, geolocation, IP address, and device. That recordkeeping can help document service activity, while the range of channels may warrant careful review against a court's procedures.

Professionals and security

Lawyers, notaries, process servers, and other legal professionals can create free profiles and offer fixed-price services without a LegalAtoms commission. LegalAtoms says its security has been audited against NNEDV data security guidelines, the NIST Cyber Security Framework, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA; it also reports AES-256 encryption, HTTPS with TLS and HSTS, and Washington CJIS certification training for engineers with client-data access. These safeguards are relevant for sensitive matters, though they do not replace a buyer's own security review.

A browser extension guide covers Chrome and Microsoft Edge use with the JABS Portal. Clients can also use the website from any device.

Pricing

LegalAtoms is freemium, with free plans for individuals and qualifying courts, alongside one-time divorce packages and custom-priced professional and court plans.

Domestic Violence Free Basic — free: Includes a domestic violence application, knowledgebase, application feedback sharing, and online collaboration. A practical no-cost starting point for that application, but it does not include the lawyer services found in paid divorce plans.
Divorce Free Basic — free: Includes the online divorce application, knowledge base, feedback sharing, and collaboration. It suits people who want to prepare an application without paid legal services.
Divorce AMICABLE — 250.00 USD per once: Adds a lawyer strategy consultation and application review to the divorce application, legal knowledge, feedback sharing, and collaboration. It is geared to an amicable split where limited lawyer input is useful.
Divorce CONFLICT — 900.00 USD per once: Includes the application and legal knowledge, lawyer strategy consultation, pre-mediation preparation, a mediation meeting, litigation, and document review. It is the more extensive option for disagreement, but costs substantially more than the amicable package.
Courts Free Plan — free: For courts serving a total population under 50,000; includes a clerk portal, e-filing or case-management integration, and technical support for constituents and staff. It gives smaller courts a free route into the workflow.
Courts Preimium Plan — 6000.00 USD per year: Starting at $6000 per year for courts serving more than 50,000 people, with unlimited cases per year, clerk portal, integration, and technical support. Pricing depends on population and enabled case types, so the starting price is not a universal quote.
DVPO Professional — custom pricing: Includes initial DVPO filing, client questionnaire access, Word and PDF court forms, unlimited clients and facilitators, and weekday phone support from 9am–5pm.
DVPO Premium — custom pricing: Includes everything in DVPO Professional, all DVPO-related filings, chat support 9am–9pm Pacific seven days a week, automated e-filing checks, secure chat, video conference, and appointment requests. It adds broader assistance and extended support to the professional plan.
Protection Orders Premium — custom pricing: Includes everything in DVPO Professional, but all protection-order filings listed for this plan are marked “Coming Soon,” limiting its immediate fit for those filing types.

The plans do not establish a single price for every case or court. Individuals should match the package to the matter and level of lawyer support needed; courts should compare population and enabled case types when requesting pricing.

Platforms

LegalAtoms supports web, iOS, Android, and browser extension access. Its browser extension is documented for Chrome and Microsoft Edge with the JABS Portal; clients can use the website from any device. The court and filing tools remain dependent on the relevant court's workflow.

Who it's for

LegalAtoms is a strong candidate for people preparing restraining-order, small-claims, divorce, or other civil and family-law documents who value guided questions and can verify their court's filing support. Smaller courts may find the free court plan especially relevant, while larger institutions can assess the paid plan's unlimited annual cases and integrations. It is less suitable for someone who needs guaranteed e-filing in a particular court or a simple flat price across all matters.

Pros and cons

Pros

Guided questions generate downloadable or printable forms, reducing reliance on court-form terminology.
Free individual and small-court plans provide useful starting points without an upfront fee.
Case tracking, rejection alerts, and correction guidance can keep users informed after filing where supported.
Professional services are offered through free profiles without a LegalAtoms commission.
Reported security controls and audits address the sensitivity of legal and personal data.

Cons

E-filing depends on court support, so statewide coverage does not guarantee a usable online filing workflow for every court.
Paid court pricing starts at $6000 per year and varies with population and case types.
Professional DVPO and protection-order plans require custom pricing, making direct cost comparison difficult.
The Protection Orders Premium plan's listed filing types are marked “Coming Soon.”

MyFileRunner is worth considering for web-based e-service: its eServices plan is free and includes document delivery and proof, though court fees may apply where applicable.
Court File America offers free web e-filing with self-administration and your own credit card; an EFSP fee may apply in addition to court filing fees.
eFileTexas.gov is a free, web-based option for basic e-filing and e-service in Texas, with transaction and service fees potentially applying.
US Legal PRO may suit readers who prefer per-submission filing assistance, with eFile 4 Me priced at 39.99 USD per once; complexity affects the price.
FileTime is a paid alternative with Android, iOS, and web access and per-submission plans starting at 1.99 USD per once.
Tyler Eden is another paid, web-based option.
InfoTrack is a paid web platform with per-document e-signatures priced at 5.00 USD per once.

Verdict

Choose LegalAtoms if you need guided preparation for a family or civil matter and your court supports the filing workflow you require; its free plans and court tools give it reach beyond document generation. Look elsewhere if your court is unsupported, you need a predictable price for a custom professional plan, or you only need a narrowly focused e-filing service.
