Overview

Canva Video is a video editor built into Canva’s design environment, for people who want to make social clips and other videos alongside branded graphics or presentations. It is a strong fit for template-led creator and marketing work; look elsewhere if a video-only workflow matters more than the wider design toolkit.

Key features

A multi-layer timeline handles trimming, splitting, splicing, and layering clips, giving users more control than a template-only editor. Highlights can surface moments in footage, while Magic Video styles and sequences uploaded clips into social-ready videos. Automatic captions, animation effects, and transitions round out the editing tools. Together with templates, illustration tools, presentation design, and Brand Kits, these features make Canva useful when a video needs to fit an existing visual identity. They are less compelling for someone seeking an editor focused solely on video production.

Exports are available as MP4 or GIF. A Free account avoids watermarks only when the video uses free elements, images, footage, and music; Pro or other paid elements trigger a watermark. Pro removes watermarks even when paid elements are used. That distinction makes asset choice central to whether Free is enough. Canva says users can publish directly to Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Tumblr.

The Apps Marketplace includes apps for audio and voiceover, file and data management, marketing, and video and animation, including a YouTube Embed app. For organizations weighing data handling, Canva says designs are protected with TLS/SSL in transit and AES256 encryption at rest, and lists ISO 27001, SOC 2, SOC 3, and PCI DSS certifications. Canva says it does not claim ownership of user content or train, sell, or repurpose it without explicit permission; users can opt out of AI training use.

Pricing

Canva uses a freemium model and offers a free trial, but only the Free plan has a published price. The other listed plans use custom pricing.

Free: Free. It includes 5GB of cloud storage, 1.6M+ templates, and up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses. It suits occasional work and exploration, but paid elements can watermark exports.
Pro Lite: custom pricing, billed for one person. It includes 50GB of cloud storage, 3 Brand Kits, and 3.6M+ templates. This is a step up for an individual needing more storage, brand kits, and template choice.
Pro: custom pricing, billed for one person. It includes 100GB of cloud storage, 5 Brand Kits, and 3.6M+ templates. It is the individual option to consider when removing watermarks from exports that use paid elements matters.
Business: custom pricing, with 500GB of cloud storage, 100 Brand Kits, and 3.6M+ templates. Its larger storage and brand-kit allowance suit broader business use.
Enterprise: custom pricing (“Let’s talk”), with 1TB of cloud storage, SSO and SCIM provisioning, and priority support. A dedicated customer success manager is available to enterprise customers with 150+ contracted seats, so that support is tied to a substantial seat threshold.

Canva’s pricing page lists support tickets for plans and limited live chat support for Free. Enterprise adds priority support, with the dedicated success manager reserved for eligible customers. Free is the clearest low-commitment choice, but users who depend on paid assets may need Pro to avoid watermarks.

Platforms

Canva Video is available on web, macOS, and Windows, as well as Android and iOS. Desktop and mobile apps give users options beyond the browser.

Who it's for

Canva describes its editor as an all-in-one suite and highlights templates for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, travel, and business videos. It suits creators and teams making social-first video who also need brand-consistent graphics, presentations, or illustrations. The Free plan can suit simple projects built from free assets. Individuals using paid elements should weigh Pro’s watermark removal; businesses with more storage and Brand Kits to manage can consider Business. Enterprise is aimed at organizations needing SSO and SCIM provisioning and, for customers with 150+ contracted seats, a dedicated success manager.

Pros and cons

Pro: The multi-layer timeline, AI-assisted editing, captions, animation, and transitions support a fuller editing workflow than simple template assembly.
Pro: Direct publishing to seven named social platforms can shorten the path from edit to distribution.
Pro: Templates, Brand Kits, presentation design, and illustration tools make it easier to keep video aligned with other Canva work.
Con: Free exports can carry watermarks when they contain Pro or other paid elements, so asset selection can constrain a no-cost workflow.
Con: Prices for Pro Lite, Pro, Business, and Enterprise are custom, making it harder to compare the cost of moving beyond Free.
