Overview

Terminal49 combines tracking, shipment documents, and workflow tools for ocean, rail, and road operations. It draws container visibility from carriers, terminals, vessel/AIS, and intermodal rail, with data described as updated hourly. That coverage can help teams follow shipments across handoffs, but hourly updates may not fit operations that depend on more frequent location refreshes.

The API provides standardized JSON milestones such as vessel events, container moves, holds, fees, and Last Free Day information. Webhooks send status changes, giving teams a way to connect shipment events to other systems. Automatic document classification links files to the relevant container, which can reduce the effort of matching paperwork to shipments.

Key features

Tracking and milestones: Coverage across carriers, terminals, vessels/AIS, and intermodal rail provides a broader operational view than a single transport handoff. Milestone data includes both movement and exception-related events, including holds, fees, and Last Free Day information.
Documents and alerts: Automatic classification and container linking bring documents into the shipment workflow. Milestone and exception alerts help teams stay informed when status changes matter.
Workflows and reporting: Complete adds automated workflows and custom reports, useful for teams that want to act on shipment events rather than only monitor them.
Integration and security: Terminal49 lists data flows with systems including Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Microsoft SQL Server, Google Sheets, Excel, NetSuite, SAP, Descartes, CargoWise, Power BI, and Azure. Its integrations page states that transfers are encrypted and that the service is SOC 2 compliant.

Pricing

Terminal49 uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever, and allows up to 10 active containers at a time and up to 3 users. It includes shipment tracking and details, basic notifications, and 50 document credits. Those caps make it suitable for a small operation or initial evaluation, but they can quickly constrain a team handling more shipments or users.

Lite has custom pricing by request on an annual contract. It provides unlimited users, full shipment and container dashboards, 50 document-processing credits with the option to buy more, and planning and performance reporting. It removes the Free plan’s user ceiling, but teams still need to account for document-credit consumption and an annual commitment.

Complete also has custom pricing, by demo, on an annual contract. It adds predictive ETAs, port congestion insights, automated workflows, custom reports, advanced integration add-ons, a dedicated customer success manager, a shared Slack channel, and SLA-backed uptime and data guarantees. This is the more relevant tier for teams that need predictive and operational support, but the annual term and custom price call for a budget discussion before choosing it.

Essential has custom pricing by demo and is available on an annual contract or pay-as-you-go basis. It includes API access and webhooks, intermodal rail tracking, container assignments and team collaboration, and document-processing credits. Its flexible term and API focus suit teams building data integrations, though the plan still requires a pricing conversation.

A separate API offer provides a 7-day free trial with full API access to build and test an integration. The general pricing note also mentions a 14-day trial; the API trial is the stated option for evaluating integration work.

Platforms

Terminal49 is available on the web and through its API. Webhooks, developer documentation, and code samples support teams connecting its shipment data to their own applications. Teams looking for a mobile app should consider that the stated platform options are web and API.

Who it's for

The platform is aimed at cargo owners, importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PLs, and logistics technology companies. It is a good fit for organizations that need container events and documents linked to operational or analytics systems. Smaller teams can start on Free, while teams needing API access, broader collaboration, predictive insights, or service guarantees should weigh the paid tiers. It is less suitable for teams that need continuously refreshed tracking or cannot accommodate a custom-priced paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Carrier, terminal, vessel/AIS, and intermodal rail visibility brings multiple shipment handoffs into one operational view.
Pro: Standardized API data and webhooks make shipment milestones usable in connected logistics and analytics systems.
Pro: Automatic document classification and container linking connect paperwork to shipment operations.
Con: Hourly tracking updates may be too infrequent for workflows that depend on faster location refreshes.
Con: Free is limited to 10 active containers, 3 users, and 50 document credits, while paid plans require custom pricing.
Con: Lite and Complete require annual contracts, limiting term flexibility compared with Essential’s pay-as-you-go option.

Alternatives

Browse Transportation Visibility Software or Container Tracking Software for more options in those categories.

Tive Platform is worth considering when mobile availability, CSV shipment creation, multi-tracker shipments, or branded public sharing links are priorities; its Plus plan also includes ETAs with alerts and geofence alerts.
Portcast is an alternative for buyers seeking an enterprise predictive visibility platform with a stated annual price of 45000.00 USD per year on a 12-month contract; additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply.
ShipsGo may suit teams that prefer a credit-based pay-as-you-track option: 1000.00 USD per once buys 500 credits, valid for 1 year, with one credit per new shipment tracking.
Shippeo is another paid platform to consider, with web, API, Android, and iOS support and pricing available by contacting sales.
GoComet is another paid option, with a free plan and Android, API, and web support.
Flexport Control Tower is another paid option with API and web support.
FourKites Dynamic Yard is another paid option with Android, iOS, and web support.
GEGO Tracking Solutions is another paid option with Android, API, iOS, and web support; its stated business plans include a 99.00 USD per once three-month option and a 299.99 USD per once annual option.

Verdict

Terminal49 is a strong choice for logistics teams that want container visibility, document handling, and shipment events connected through an API. Its cross-handoff coverage and workflow options are the main reasons to choose it; the hourly update cadence and capped free plan are the main reasons to look elsewhere, especially if faster refreshes or predictable paid pricing matter more.
