Overview

Lacuna is a songwriting workspace for turning a short idea into lyrics and developing them through focused revisions. It is best suited to writers who want drafting tools and a route into AI-generated vocals, rather than people looking only to convert or download audio. The main trade-off is that its free allowance is limited and audio downloads require a subscription.

Key features

Drafting and revision

A one-line prompt can become a lyric draft, and writers can revise individual lines instead of replacing the whole piece. Syllable counts, highlighted rhymes and meaning-ranked suggestions make the editor useful for shaping cadence and finding less obvious rhymes; song-structure controls add another way to guide a draft. Automatic snapshots preserve earlier takes as the AI edits, which makes experimentation easier to undo.

Languages and music generation

The lyrics workspace supports nine languages, while phonetic rhyme support covers English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Writers can send lyrics to Lacuna’s music generator to create a track with AI vocals. That is a useful continuation from words to audio, but downloading audio requires a subscription; buying credits alone does not unlock downloads.

Developer access and data

The developer API includes REST access, a TypeScript SDK, CLI tools and an MCP server for compatible agents such as Cursor, Claude Code and Codex. It is restricted to Pro and Ultra and uses credit-based billing, so it is aimed at teams or developers with a specific integration need, not casual lyric writers. Lacuna says uploaded materials, prompts, generated content and task records may remain in the service while available. Account deletion ends access and disables public sharing, but does not automatically erase all stored account information or content.

Pricing

Lacuna has a free tier with 120 credits per month and no credit card requirement. The AI lyrics assistant costs five credits per use, so the allowance supports experimentation but can run down with repeated revisions. Unused credits do not roll over between cycles.

The pricing note advertises paid access from $9.50/mo (annual), while the listed monthly subscriptions are Basic at 19.00 USD per month, Pro at 49.00 USD per month and Ultra at 99.00 USD per month. Basic includes 2,500 credits monthly, approximately 100 songs and up to five concurrent generations; it suits an individual writer with regular but bounded use. Pro raises that to 7,500 credits, approximately 300 songs and 10 concurrent generations, and is the entry point for API access. Ultra provides 25,000 credits, approximately 1,000 songs and 20 concurrent generations for heavier workloads. The higher tiers buy more capacity and concurrency; API users must choose Pro or Ultra.

One-time Credit Pack S costs 50.00 USD per month for 3,500 credits, approximately 70 generations; Credit Pack M costs 100.00 USD per month for 8,000 credits, approximately 160 generations; and Credit Pack L costs 500.00 USD per month for 50,000 credits, approximately 1,000 generations. These packs can add generation capacity without a subscription, but they do not include audio downloads. Check the stated billing terms carefully: the packs are described as one-time purchases, while their displayed prices include “per month.”

Platforms

Lacuna lists API, extension, iOS and web platforms. MP3 is the listed export format. Support is available by email, feedback form and Discord.

Who it's for

Lacuna fits songwriters, rappers, topliners, producers and first-time writers who want help moving from an idea to a revised lyric, especially if they also want to generate a vocal track. Its commercial-use terms allow users to record, release and commercially use generated and edited lyrics. It is less suitable for someone seeking only a simple audio converter or a no-subscription path to download generated audio.

Pros and cons

Pros: Line-level rewrites, syllable counts and meaning-ranked rhyme suggestions give writers practical ways to refine a draft.
Pros: Automatic snapshots let users restore an earlier version after AI edits.
Pros: Lyrics can move directly into Lacuna’s music generator, and the lyrics are cleared for commercial use under the maker’s stated terms.
Cons: The free plan’s 120 monthly credits constrain repeated assistant use, and unused credits expire at the cycle boundary.
Cons: Audio downloads require a subscription, even if a user buys a credit pack.
Cons: Account deletion does not automatically erase all stored account information or content.

Alternatives

For a different lyrics-focused option, compare AI Lyric Generators; for tools centered on generating music, see AI Music Generators. If the job is conversion rather than songwriting, Audio Converter Software is the more relevant category.

Choose Switch Audio File Converter for standard audio conversion on Android, macOS or Windows, including a non-expiring free version limited to non-commercial use. Red Panda Compress Audio Converter is a better fit for free, unlimited conversion across desktop and mobile, with no signup or watermark and stated file-size limits. Free YouTube to MP3 Converter suits batch YouTube downloads with no daily limit. For a converter with a small check-in-credit allowance and watermarked 720p exports, consider Media.io Audio Converter. MediaHuman Audio Converter is a free desktop conversion option for macOS, Windows and Linux; MediaHuman YouTube to MP3 Converter is its desktop alternative for YouTube audio, with TurboBoost as a paid option. Windows users who need fuller editing, audiobook, export or command-line features can consider AVS Audio Converter, whose free version adds a voice logo to output audio. LuminaAudio Audio Converter is a free option across six platforms, with no signup, watermarks or stated limits.

Verdict

Choose Lacuna if you want structured help developing lyrics and value a direct path from words to an AI-vocal track. Its editing and version-history tools give writers more control than a one-shot lyric prompt, while its credit limits and subscription-only audio downloads make the free tier a trial of the workflow rather than a complete route to finished audio. Look elsewhere if conversion is your main task or if you need downloadable audio without subscribing.
