Overview

ClickSend supports promotional campaigns, transactional texts such as reminders and delivery updates, and one-time-password verification. Its API can send and manage SMS, check send costs, and show message history; delivery status and webhooks help teams follow message outcomes. Two-way messaging supports conversations, and inbound replies are free.

Recurring workflows can be built through no-code integrations or full-code implementations. That flexibility can serve both operations teams and developers. However, ClickSend is pausing SMS messages containing URLs for new customers; approval from support is required, making it a poor fit for link-dependent messaging until that approval is secured.

Key features

API and SDKs: SDKs are offered for PHP, Node.js, Ruby, Swift, Objective-C, Python, C#, Java, Go, and Perl. Teams can work in a range of established languages, while message history and cost checks support day-to-day administration.
Workflow integrations: Connections include Zapier, Microsoft Power Automate, Make, GoHighLevel, ActiveCampaign, Salesforce, Bubble.io, and IFTTT. That gives teams several routes to connect recurring SMS tasks with other tools, from no-code automation to custom builds.
Security and controls: ClickSend says connections use TLS 1.2 with AES ciphers and sensitive data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Customers manage API keys in the web portal; staff access uses role-based controls and multi-factor authentication.
Support and uptime: Human-staffed chat support is advertised 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, alongside a 99.95% uptime SLA guarantee. Those commitments are relevant for businesses relying on SMS for operational alerts or verification.
Message length and carrier costs: Additional carrier fees apply, and messages longer than 160 characters are billed as multiple parts. Multi-part billing can raise campaign costs when texts are lengthy, so concise copy and destination-specific cost checks matter.

Pricing

ClickSend is paid, with a 14-day trial and no free plan. The pricing page presents four pay-as-you-go SMS tiers at no cost, with no subscription; these are top-up tiers rather than cost-free messaging plans:

Boost: top-up from $20. This is the lowest entry point for teams with modest or variable usage, but requires an upfront balance.
Growth: top-up from $500, with 7% savings. It suits higher-volume senders able to commit more funds in advance.
Scale: top-up from $3,000, with 14% savings. The larger commitment is better aligned with substantial SMS volume than occasional use.
Enterprise: top-up from $10,000, with 21% savings. It offers the greatest stated savings, but the minimum top-up makes it unsuitable for most small or uncertain workloads.

The listed tier prices do not give a per-message rate: SMS pricing depends on usage, and carrier fees are additional. Messages over 160 characters consume multiple billable parts, while inbound replies are free. The 14-day trial is the option for evaluating the service before choosing a top-up level.

Platforms

ClickSend supports API, iOS, macOS, and web access. The browser service offers a route for teams that do not want to work exclusively through the API, while the SDK range supports developer-led integration.

Who it's for

ClickSend is a sensible fit for businesses that need transactional SMS, promotional campaigns, or one-time-password delivery and want API, webhook, delivery-status, or workflow-integration options. It is especially relevant when replies matter, since inbound SMS is free. Small senders should weigh the $20 minimum top-up, and organizations whose messages rely on URLs should seek approval before adopting it.

Pros and cons

Pro — Broad implementation choices: Browser access, a long SDK list, and no-code integrations let teams choose between direct API work and workflow tools.
Pro — Useful operational coverage: Delivery status, webhooks, message history, cost checks, and free inbound replies support both monitoring and two-way messaging.
Pro — Published support and uptime commitments: Round-the-clock human chat and a 99.95% uptime SLA are relevant for business-critical messaging.
Con — Significant top-ups above Boost: Growth, Scale, and Enterprise require $500, $3,000, and $10,000 respectively, tying their savings to large prepaid commitments.
Con — Variable costs can compound: Carrier fees are extra, and long messages are billed in multiple parts.
Con — URL approval hurdle: New customers cannot send URL-containing SMS without support approval, limiting readiness for link-heavy campaigns.

Verdict

Choose ClickSend if your business needs API-connected SMS for campaigns, transactional updates, or verification, and values broad SDK and workflow support plus free inbound replies. Look elsewhere if large prepaid top-ups, multi-part billing, or the need for approval to send URLs would make your messaging costs or operations difficult to manage.
