Overview

Cloudify brings a service-composition DSL and a manager for maintaining blueprints and deployments, running workflows, and displaying application topology, metrics, and logs. YAML or JSON configuration, support for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack, and the ability to import existing resources make it relevant to teams automating across cloud and edge environments.

Policy as code, drift detection, and both state management modes extend its infrastructure-management capabilities. The breadth is a strength for organizations moving toward public cloud or cloud-native architecture, but it also means Cloudify is not a narrowly scoped tool for one platform or provider.

Key features

Service composition and workflows: The DSL models composite services across Cloudify and other orchestration domains, while Manager runs workflows. That suits deployments whose components span different systems, rather than teams automating a single isolated resource.
Integrations: Official plugins cover Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, and Terraform; documented integrations include AWS, Azure, Ansible, and Jenkins. Cloudify also documents CI/CD integrations with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI, giving teams multiple routes to connect orchestration with delivery workflows.
Operational visibility: Manager displays topology, metrics, and logs alongside its blueprint and deployment management. This keeps deployment context together, though the Community plan comparison does not include several access and availability controls offered in Premium and SaaS.
Security and governance: Cloudify describes secret storage, encrypted internal communication, multi-tenancy, and role-based access control; its 6.2 release notes state ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification. These are relevant to organizations with governance needs, but users/groups/tenants, RBAC, directory and SAML integration, snapshots, and high availability are listed for Premium and SaaS, not Community.
Deployment flexibility: Community and Premium can be deployed with Docker, a VM, or Kubernetes and a Helm chart; SaaS is hosted. The CLI has Linux and Mac binaries, a Windows EXE, a Python package, and Docker. This gives teams self-hosting options, while Community and Premium require deployment setup.

Pricing

Cloudify is freemium. The perpetual free option is useful for evaluation or ongoing use by teams willing to manage their own setup and cloud access; it does not remove the operational work of running the platform.

Cloudify Community — 0.00 USD per free: No time limit. Requires Docker or VM setup and access to a cloud provider to run workloads. Its comparison omits users/groups/tenants, RBAC, AD/Okta/SAML, snapshots, and high availability, so it is a weaker fit where centralized access controls or availability features are needed.
Cloudify Premium trial — 0.00 USD per free: A 60-day trial requiring Docker setup and cloud-provider access. A valid activation license is required, and trial functionality ceases when that license expires. It provides a way to assess Premium, but is not a no-expiry free tier.
Cloudify as a Service trial — custom pricing: A hosted trial requires an account request and cloud-provider access to run workloads. It avoids self-hosting the service, but the trial is not an immediate, self-serve option.

Platforms

Cloudify supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows. The CLI installation options span Linux, Mac, Windows, Python, and Docker. Supported cloud environments include AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.

Who it's for

Cloudify is a strong candidate for organizations transitioning to public cloud or cloud-native architecture that need automation across infrastructure and edge resources. It is especially relevant when service models span orchestration domains and teams need workflows, integrations, and visibility across deployments. A team seeking a hosted experience can consider SaaS; one choosing Community should be prepared to provide setup, cloud access, and its own answer to the controls absent from that plan comparison.

Pros and cons

Pro: The DSL, workflow manager, and integrations address services that cross providers and orchestration systems, rather than limiting automation to one environment.
Pro: Community has no time limit, and multiple deployment methods support teams that want to self-host.
Pro: Documented security features and ISO certifications are useful signals for organizations evaluating governance requirements.
Con: Community requires Docker or VM setup and cloud-provider access, so free use still carries deployment and infrastructure work.
Con: Users/groups/tenants, RBAC, directory and SAML integration, snapshots, and high availability are absent from the Community comparison, making Premium or SaaS the relevant options for those needs.
Con: Premium's trial is time-limited and depends on a valid activation license; SaaS trial access requires an account request.

Alternatives

Consider Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform if an open-source platform with a free Community Edition and a consumption-based Enterprise Edition is a better match. Choose Apache CloudStack for open-source IaaS cloud software with a free plan. KubeSphere is another free, open-source community-edition Kubernetes container platform.

Google Config Sync may suit teams seeking a free plan included with GKE, subject to its GKE cluster-version and fleet-registration requirements. Choose Cycle instead if its Lite plan's stated allowance of four servers and four team members, plus 100GB image storage, fits the need. HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Software is an alternative for HVM hypervisor and VMware management.

OpenNebula is worth considering for its open-source Community Edition and complete core platform. Control Plane may suit teams preferring usage-based monthly billing without contracts, minimums, or lock-ins.

Verdict

Choose Cloudify if your organization needs to compose and automate services across cloud, infrastructure, and edge systems, and values a no-time-limit Community option or flexible deployment. Its main advantage is orchestration breadth; its main drawback is that Community requires setup and cloud access while omitting several access and availability controls. Look elsewhere if you need a narrowly focused platform or Community-level access to those controls.
