Overview

Coast is a maintenance and asset management platform for teams coordinating equipment care and operational work. It is best suited to deskless and SMB-focused teams that want maintenance tasks and team communication together. Its free plan is a low-commitment starting point, but short history and a workspace-wide plan rule can make a paid tier necessary as a team grows.

Key features

Work orders and communication

Teams can assign and prioritize work orders, then use real-time chat and photo or checklist attachments to keep task context with the job. Native iOS and Android apps add QR scanning and direct photo capture, which suits staff recording equipment or work on site. Spare parts inventory and technician time tracking broaden Coast beyond a basic work-order tracker.

Preventive maintenance and asset tracking

Schedules can recur by day, week, or month, with meter-based work and due-date alerts. QR codes let users retrieve asset information and check equipment status, a practical advantage for teams that need to identify equipment in the field.

Reporting, integrations, and controls

Real-time equipment performance insights, custom dashboards, and tracking for maintenance-team efficiency and costs give managers visibility beyond task completion. Zapier connections, an Open API, and support for hardware such as IoT sensors and smart meters provide ways to connect Coast with other tools and equipment.

Coast states that it is SOC 2 Type II certified. Audit trails, electronic signatures, required fields, and user permissions support regulated workflows. The company says it does not sell personal information and accepts data access, correction, or deletion requests through support.

Pricing

Coast has a free plan and a 7-day Pro Plan trial for new signups, with no credit card required. After the trial, teams can continue on Free or upgrade. Every member of a workspace must use the same plan, so teams cannot keep some users on a cheaper tier while others use paid features.

Free — 0.00 USD per free. Includes unlimited work orders, five repeating work orders, real-time messaging, seven-day history, and file uploads up to 3 MB. It is suitable for trying basic coordination, but limited history and attachment size may constrain ongoing recordkeeping.
Starter — 2.00 USD per month, billed per user / month (the page also shows $1.80 with yearly billing selected). It adds unlimited history and repeating work orders with procedures, no file upload limits, workspace permissions, time and cost tracking, and five workflow automations. This is the more practical step up for teams needing complete records and larger files without advanced reporting.
Pro — 4.00 USD per month, billed per user / month (the page also shows $3.6 with yearly billing selected). It adds full workflow customization, reporting analytics, customizable external work request forms, automated work order time tracking, unlimited custom dashboards, automated downtime tracking, and 30 workflow automations. It fits teams that need more control over workflows and maintenance analysis.
Enterprise — custom pricing. It includes custom workflow development, custom reporting and analytics, multi-site management, single sign-on, escalation protocols, unlimited automations, and integrations. Its multi-site and identity features make it the tier to consider for more complex organizations.

Platforms

Coast supports Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. The mobile app supports QR scanning and photo capture; desktop support covers Windows 10 version 2004 or later, Windows 11, and macOS 12 or later.

Who it's for

Coast suits deskless workforces and SMB-focused teams that need maintenance, communication, and operational workflows in one place. It is less suitable for organizations that need different plan levels within a single workspace, or for teams whose free-plan records need longer than seven days of history.

Pros and cons

Pros: Work orders combine assignment, prioritization, chat, and attachments, keeping coordination tied to the task.
Pros: Recurring and meter-based maintenance, due-date alerts, and QR asset lookup cover both scheduled work and on-site equipment identification.
Pros: The seven-day Pro trial requires no credit card, and the free plan allows unlimited work orders.
Cons: Free-plan history lasts only seven days and uploads are capped at 3 MB, limiting its usefulness as a lasting maintenance record.
Cons: Workspace members cannot mix plans, so an organization must upgrade everyone together.
Cons: Starter has five workflow automations and Pro has 30; teams needing unlimited automations must consider Enterprise, which has custom pricing.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see CMMS Software. NEXT CMMS is worth considering if its free plan's two-user limit and 10 active work orders are a better fit than Coast's free-plan limits. Choose Atlas CMMS if open-source software is a priority. Azzier CMMS may suit a very small operation: its Simply Azzier plan is free forever with no credit card, capped at three users, 50 equipment records, and two locations. Maintainly is another freemium maintenance option with a free plan. MaintainX may be preferable if its Basic plan's unlimited work orders, procedures, and requester users align better with your team's needs. Fiix offers a free tier with 25 active preventive maintenance tasks, unlimited service requests, work orders, downtime tracking, and asset management. Maintenance Care may suit teams seeking a plan with unlimited users, work orders, preventive maintenance, assets, and vendors at 250.00 USD per month, based on yearly pricing. SuperCMMS is an alternative with a MISSION CRITICAL plan at 15.00 USD per month.

Verdict

Choose Coast if your deskless or SMB-focused team wants work orders, preventive maintenance, asset lookup, and communication in one workspace, with mobile tools for field work. Its free tier and short Pro trial lower the barrier to starting, but the seven-day history cap and workspace-wide plan requirement are meaningful constraints. Look elsewhere if your team needs mixed plan levels or a free tier suited to longer-term records.
