Overview

CoinTracking combines portfolio analysis, transaction imports, and tax reporting, with country-specific reports for more than 100 countries. Formats include IRS Form 8949 and Schedule D, HMRC and ATO reports, and DATEV, Elster, and BMF. That range suits users with jurisdiction-specific filing needs; anyone seeking only a basic portfolio view may have little reason to pay for tax-oriented features.

The service says it can import data from more than 400 exchanges, wallets, and blockchains by API, CSV, or blockchain address. Automatic categorization covers DeFi swaps, staking rewards, NFT trades, and margin positions, which can reduce sorting work on complex histories. The lower paid plans still cap transactions, so broad import support does not mean every plan fits high-volume activity.

Key features

Portfolio analysis and tax reporting

More than 25 customizable reports, interactive charts, and profit-and-loss reports give investors several ways to review activity and performance. The tax reports are the stronger reason to choose CoinTracking: coverage across more than 100 countries and familiar local formats can serve users whose filing needs go beyond a generic gains summary.

Imports and categorization

API, CSV, and blockchain-address imports provide multiple ways to consolidate activity across supported sources. Automatic detection of DeFi, staking, NFT, and margin transactions is useful for histories that would otherwise demand more manual classification. CoinTracking says exchange connections use read-only API keys, which cannot trade or withdraw funds.

Additional tools and data protection

AI Tax Saver, a CSV File Converter, and Source of Funds add to the toolkit, though access varies by plan and country. CoinTracking states that it holds ISO/IEC 27001:2017 certification, stores user data on servers in Germany, encrypts it at rest and in transit, and handles it under GDPR compliance. These are relevant safeguards for users consolidating financial records.

Pricing

CoinTracking uses a freemium model, with paid plans from $49/yr and a 7-day trial. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and offers portfolio view only; its 7-day trial includes unlimited imports and requires no credit card. That makes it a way to inspect the service, not a lasting option for users who need reports.

Plan	Price	What it includes	Best fit
Starter	49.00 USD per year	200 transactions, 25+ reports, 400+ exchanges and wallets, 2 backups	Lower-volume users who want reports and broad import support; the 200-transaction cap is a material constraint.
Pro	169.00 USD per year	3,500 transactions, auto-sync, API access, 5 backups	Investors who need synchronization and more room than Starter provides.
Expert	259.00 USD per year	Selectable transaction limit, priority support, auto-sync, API access, 10 backups	Users who need a configurable transaction allowance and faster support.
Unlimited	899.00 USD per year	Unlimited transactions, advanced tools, expert session, 20 backups	High-volume users for whom transaction caps would be a poor fit.

Starter is the least expensive paid route, but its 200-transaction allowance may be restrictive for active traders. Pro raises that ceiling to 3,500 and adds auto-sync and API access; Expert lets the buyer select a transaction limit and adds priority support. Unlimited removes the transaction cap and adds advanced tools and an expert session, at a much higher annual price. Corporate pricing includes three unlimited accounts, multi-client management, individual branding, and features for tax and finance professionals; it uses custom pricing.

Platforms

CoinTracking is available on web, Android, iOS, and API. Its mobile apps sync with an existing CoinTracking account, so they are companion access for account holders rather than a separate tracking setup.

Who it's for

CoinTracking is a strong fit for investors consolidating activity across many sources, especially those with DeFi, staking, NFT, or margin transactions and a need for country-specific reports. Its corporate offering also targets CPAs, accountants, and financial professionals managing multiple clients. Tutorials, support, and a directory of tax professionals—504 CPAs across 95 countries—provide additional help for people dealing with reporting questions.

It is less compelling for casual holders who only want to watch a portfolio, or for users whose transaction volume exceeds a lower plan's cap but who do not want to pay for a higher tier. The Free plan's portfolio-only scope leaves tax reporting to paid plans.

Pros and cons

Pros: Tax reports cover more than 100 countries and include major jurisdiction-specific formats, useful for users with local filing requirements.
Pros: More than 400 import sources and automatic categorization for DeFi, staking, NFTs, and margin reduce the burden of consolidating varied activity.
Pros: Read-only exchange keys and stated encryption and GDPR practices address important risks when connecting financial accounts.
Cons: Free access is limited to portfolio viewing; the unlimited-import trial lasts only 7 days.
Cons: Starter's 200-transaction cap can be too low for active users, while unlimited transactions require the substantially more expensive Unlimited plan.
Cons: Availability of additional tools varies by plan and country, so not every user can rely on the same feature set.

Verdict

Choose CoinTracking if you need to consolidate a varied crypto history and want portfolio analysis alongside tax reports tailored to your jurisdiction. Its import breadth, transaction categorization, and country coverage make it especially relevant to active investors and client-facing professionals. Look elsewhere if you only need basic tracking, want tax reports without a paid plan, or need a high transaction limit at a lower annual cost.
