Overview

CollegeSource Transferology is a transfer-credit exploration network for students, paired with advising and recruitment tools for colleges. It suits students weighing how prior learning might count at another school and institutional staff who manage transfer equivalencies. Its value is focused: it helps investigate transfer options, but it cannot handle applications or transcript delivery.

Key features

Credit exploration

Students can check potential transfer treatment for college coursework, AP, CLEP, International Baccalaureate, military courses and military occupations. A free account gives students personalized options, and what-if scenarios support planning before they commit to a school or course path. These are estimates of transfer possibilities, not enrollment steps; students must apply and send transcripts elsewhere.

Course and pathway planning

Find a Replacement Course lets enrolled students search for a course at another institution that may transfer back to their current school. Transfer Pathways map possibilities between schools around partnership agreements and educational goals. Both are useful for comparing a defined course or route, though their practical value depends on the transfer scenario.

Staff tools and integrations

Transferology Lab serves college and university administrators, equivalency managers and advisors. Staff can assemble Course Bundles for common advising scenarios, create branded institution landing pages and use reporting to identify coursework without established equivalencies. That reporting can help teams spot evaluation work, while TES integration moves reviews of unarticulated courses, exams and military credits to TES Evaluation Tracker and imports TES transfer guides and articulation agreements for display.

The Student Lead API retrieves student information requests and exports them as CSV or JSON for other systems, including Slate. CollegeSource describes role-based restrictions, access logging, firewalls and encryption as safeguards for personal data, and says it stores and processes data only in the United States.

Pricing

The Student account is 0.00 USD per free and includes transfer exploration. This is the right starting point for students who want to investigate their own options without paying; it does not provide the institution-facing subscription tools.

The Institution subscription has custom pricing tailored to college or university enrollment, with pricing available by contacting sales. It is intended for institutions that need staff workflows and recruitment tools; the student account alone is not a substitute for those capabilities. No seat or usage quota is specified for either plan.

Platforms

Transferology runs on the web and supports responsive desktop, tablet and mobile use. API access is also available, making it relevant to institutions that want student lead requests exported into other systems.

Who it's for

Students comparing transfer destinations or looking for a replacement course are the clearest fit, especially if they want to explore prior learning before applying. College and university staff may find the subscription worthwhile when they manage equivalencies, advise students on recurring scenarios or want branded transfer information and lead exports. It is not the right tool for someone who needs to submit an application or transmit transcripts.

Pros and cons

Pro: Free student access covers multiple kinds of prior learning, including military coursework and occupations, broadening transfer exploration beyond college classes.
Pro: Course Bundles, reporting and branded landing pages give institutional staff concrete tools for advising and recruitment.
Pro: TES integration and CSV or JSON lead exports can connect transfer workflows with evaluation and other systems.
Con: Transferology cannot complete applications or send transcripts, so students must use other services to move from exploration to enrollment.
Con: Institution subscription pricing is custom, so colleges need to contact sales to assess cost against enrollment and requirements.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Degree Audit Software. Choose FlightPath instead if a free, self-hosted web option is preferable; its Community Edition costs 0.00 USD per free and requires a self-hosted web server, MySQL and PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.x.

Ellucian Degree Works is a paid alternative across Android, iOS, Linux, web and API platforms, with pricing based on full-time equivalent students according to a 2024 Ellucian document. Risely Agentic Degree Audit, Stellic and HighPoint Degree Planner are paid alternatives.

DegreeSight is another paid option with custom pricing by request and no published tiers. Consider Ellucian Advising or Starfish if you want to explore those paid alternatives; each requires contacting the provider for pricing or a demo.

Verdict

Transferology is a strong fit for students who need a free way to investigate how prior learning might transfer and for institutions that want dedicated transfer advising and recruitment tools. Its main reason to choose it is the combination of broad credit exploration with staff workflows and integrations. Look elsewhere if you need a service that also manages applications or transcript delivery.
