Overview

Founded in 2010, IFTTT offers a library of more than 1,000 apps, services, and devices. Applets join two or more services, and basic use does not require coding. That breadth can make everyday connections practical, but it is useful only when the services a reader relies on are included.

Examples on the Explore page involve Spotify, Evernote, Todoist, Google Sheets, Android, and Philips Hue. IFTTT supports app triggers and scheduled runs. The Free plan’s two-Applet ceiling makes it a limited place to build a larger collection of automations.

Key features

Applet capacity and controls

Free allows two Applets, Pro allows 20, and Pro+ allows unlimited Applets. Pro adds multi-action Applets, Webhooks, increased rate limits, and the fastest Applet speeds. That is a meaningful step up for people connecting multiple smart devices or wanting one trigger to produce several actions; Free instead suits a small set of straightforward connections.

Pro+ adds AI services, multiple connected accounts per service, queries, filter code, and access to IFTTT’s Platform. These tools make the top tier a better fit for small businesses or users who need more control over automations, rather than casual users who only need a couple of basic Applets.

Mobile, security, and activity

IFTTT’s iOS and Android apps include mobile-exclusive services, notifications, widgets, and geofencing automations. Those features make the service more relevant for routines tied to a phone or location. Most connected services use OAuth, which allows restricted access without giving IFTTT the user’s password. Users can export their data as JSON or delete their account through account settings.

Trigger checks, Applet runs, and errors are logged for seven days, while activity-feed information is stored for 30 days. That gives users a short window to inspect activity, but not a long history for investigating older problems.

Pricing

IFTTT has a free plan, two paid plans, and a seven-day trial. The paid prices are shown per month with annual billing totals, so the annual commitment matters when comparing the headline monthly amounts.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free, billed forever	Two Applets, standard Applet speeds, unlimited Applet runs, free mobile app access, and 30-day onboarding support.
Pro	2.99 USD per month (billed $35.88 billed annually)	20 Applets, fastest Applet speeds, multi-action Applets, Webhooks, increased rate limits, and customer support.
Pro+	8.99 USD per month (billed $107.88 billed annually)	Unlimited Applets, AI services, multiple connected accounts, queries and filter code, and prioritized customer support.

Free is a sensible starting point for one or two automations, but its Applet cap and standard speeds constrain a broader setup. Pro is the practical upgrade for people managing several device connections or multi-action routines. Pro+ is aimed at small businesses and advanced users who will use its account and workflow controls; otherwise, its additional cost buys capacity and tools that may go unused. Free includes 30-day onboarding support, while Pro includes customer support and Pro+ prioritizes it.

Platforms

IFTTT is available on Android, iOS, and the web, and offers an API. The mobile apps add services and features that are exclusive to mobile, while the web and API broaden how users can work with the platform.

Who it's for

Choose IFTTT for accessible connections among common apps, services, and smart devices, particularly when mobile triggers or geofencing are useful. Pro suits people whose routines exceed two Applets or require multi-action automation. Small business owners and users needing queries, filter code, or multiple connected accounts are the clearest candidates for Pro+. Look elsewhere if two Applets are too few but the paid tiers’ speed and control upgrades are more than the workflow needs.

Pros and cons

Broad integration library: More than 1,000 apps, services, and devices create many potential connections, including familiar tools and smart-home products.
Useful mobile automations: Notifications, widgets, and geofencing add phone-specific triggers and actions beyond web-based connections.
Clear path to greater capacity: Pro raises the limit to 20 Applets and Pro+ removes it, with more advanced controls reserved for the higher plan.
Strict Free ceiling: Two Applets can be enough for a trial setup, but leave little room for a growing set of routines.
Short activity history: Run and error logs last seven days, which limits the time available to investigate older failures.

Alternatives

Workflow automation tools and Task Automation Software are broader starting points for comparing options. Consider Make if its Free plan’s 1,000 credits per month, two active scenarios, and 15-minute minimum interval fit the workflow. Albato offers a Free plan with 100 transactions, five active automations, and two steps per automation. Bonita has a Free plan with 150 process instances per month and supports self-hosted use as well as desktop platforms. Latenode has a Free plan with 10,000 CPU seconds per month, five active workflows, and one parallel execution. Workato Agentic offers a Free plan with 50,000 one-time credits. Pabbly Connect has a Free plan with 100 tasks per month and unlimited workflows. Retool is another freemium option with a free plan. Zapier has a free plan with 100 tasks per month and two-step automations.

Verdict

IFTTT is a good choice for people who want straightforward app and device connections, especially when mobile-specific automations matter. Its large integration library and paid tiers that scale from 20 to unlimited Applets are the main reasons to choose it. The two-Applet Free limit and short run-log retention are reasons to look elsewhere if you need more room or a longer troubleshooting history.
